I'm going .. not sure if I'm bringing the santa hat, but it would be fun to see some Frost*ies at the Peel! :D
You know you'll be seeing this one at least :D
And me, I'll be at the back.
Quote from: "Nellie"And me, I'll be at the back.
Keep me a curious things CD I've neglected to order one yet so probably easier to get one at the gig :)
I've got to stock up on the merchandise as well.. I totally forgot to buy anything the last time!
Maybe we can get the bar moved closer to the merch area :D
I soo want to go... Hmmm... I'll just be returning from the UK on April 16, though... But I suppose I could still go if I have the money for it... Maybe... Maaaaybeeee... If I don't find a job before then. (:-P
Touchstone in St Albans on the 17th, you know.... ;)
Oh my god, yes... you have to stay the Saturday so we can go and see Touchstone too!
In fact, sod it, don't bother going back at all.
We'll be in Spain from 12th to 18th.
I'd love to go, but I don't think the winds are blowing my way.
Money, travel, overnight accomodation, more travel, more money, times, dates - I think it's all a bit too much for me to handle right now.
:(
Quote from: "johninblack"We'll be in Spain from 12th to 18th.
Me too, where abouts are you going?
I really need to finish my designs for a teleporter.
Both these gigs are just too darned far away to get there and back without an overnight, and that costs spondulicks that I don't have :(
I think Mike Evs might have a cheap Travelodge room going spare (£19). Cos you're worth it!!

I do indeed have a twin room at the Kingston Central Travelodge for £19 that I will not be using owing to the fact that I'm crashing with The Reasoning at someone's house makes things easier for travelling to the Robin 2 Bilston the following day

Sorry to say mate someone got in before you so the room is no longer available, I meant to post this morning that it had gone but had to rush off to the bank
Ohhh....... flippy-knickers.
OK... where's everyone staying? Travelodge in Kingston? If so I'll try to get a room there.
Edit: Although at 80 bleedin' quid, maybe not! I wonder if I can crash at my Sister's in Islington....
Edit again: Ahh, there's two. The other one (//http://www.travelodge.co.uk/search_and_book/index.php?hotel_id=397)'s "only" £42. Even so, it'd better be a bloody good gig :p
It will be!
Not that you're biased in anyway, Nells... ;)
 How very dare you.
No need to take offence, dear heart!
I merely meant that you knew for certain that the gig will be a good'un because you yourself will be there!

Yeah, but I'd turn up late if I were you and just see The Reasoning. I'm sure Nellie will tell you if you missed anything good.....
As far as I can remember I'm yet to go to a gig at The Peel where at least 2/5th's of Tinyfish were in attendance, there have even been a couple when they were all there.
Fantastic supporters of The Peel are those Tinyfishes.
i would definitely be coming if i wasnt in glasgow. damnation! x

Excellent news :)
Maybe you can persuade some of the other fellas to come along too, for a big ol' Frost* Lurve Fest (and maybe even a curry if we can find one).
If they are selling them in number order - I bought 49 and 50 tonight...
Are we gonna go look for a curry after the gig? (:-D
Why not get the most local curry house to deliver a currytastic feast to the Peel?
Very much looking forward to this one, and hoping it will be a full house...
Made a cunning mention of it in my Wishing Tree album launch review to help spread the word ;)
Quote from: "Nellie"Why not get the most local curry house to deliver a currytastic feast to the Peel?
Not sure that Twang et al would appreciate the ensuing carnage.....
Besides, there's something about
going for a curry... we just have to find a bloody curry house that's open!
Quote from: "Philadelphia"Are we gonna go look for a curry after the gig? (:-D
Hasn't that already been tried once ? :D
There's a curry house at the end of the road but I don't know what time it shuts. I reckon if they had a booking, they would stay open.
I don't think we even need to have a curry. It was the search for one that was the fun bit... :D

Now
that sounds like a plan!
I'm not even sure what a curry is, but I'd be willing to give it a try.
Guess I need to get out more :|
Curry..... now that's a fairly large topic!
Wikipedia has a lot of info on it (//http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curry), but in short, if you like your food spicy, you'll be able to find plenty in a curry house that you like :)

As a fellow outsider of the British culture of "going for a curry", I've interpreted that particular expression as "going for Indian* food from a place that's more fast food-y than restaurant-y".
*Or food from a neighbouring country of India.

Well, I don't know that "fast food" is exactly right - it's usually a proper restaurant, but having said that, the food probably bears as much resemblance to food eaten by Indians as "Chinese food" does to its less MSG-riddled counterpart... :p

Oh, you really,
really need to come to Bradford!
Sure, there's Asian restaurants where you can be served on posh plates with silver dishes - hell, they even give you a knife and fork to eat with - but the majority of "curry houses" here actually serve the native (mostly Pakistani and Bangladeshi*) community, so it's pretty damned authentic.
After my student-days of going to wherever was the cheapest/hottest, I soon learned to recognise the good places as the ones that had lots of Asians dining in them ;)
*Actually, mostly descendants of Pakistanis and Bangladeshis!

Sounds good! I'll try not to walk straight past it this time...
Someone tell me where and when, or I'll just end up early at The Peel chatting with Twang ;)
I feel kind of silly making these plans a whole month in advance, but it was the Fighting Cocks in Kingston.
:D
Maybe they'll have a better band on and we'll never leave...

Only question is, how are you going to keep "hum-hum" off this forum between now and April 25th? ;)
It's pm's from hereon in!
One could edit out references to "the merchandise" in the previous posts if people would like one to.... ;)
I think editing would be a good idea as it's likely that hum-hum will enter into the thread before the big day and then the surprise about the hum-hum would be lost.

So how many takers do we have for this idea?
I count myself, N-w-b-j* and Bert so far.
It needs a few more to have the desired impact, I feel.
*AKA Nellie
There are 2 others too. 5 so far.
I will need sizes though, pm me with details please. :D
What do we think about a glittery effect?
Glitter is always good (unless proceeded by Gary)
I'm totally out of touch with the thread I started .. I see pre-show curry, something about shirts.. I'm lost!
Is there anything I should get caught up on before I venture across the pond? ;)
Just PM Nellie, landslug! (:-)
So we're all set to print off... OK, Nellie is all set to
iron-on some Very Special T-shirts, saying "We ? Hum-hum*".
We're hoping she can manage to put forum names on the back, too. HOW COOL?
Currently there are 5 takers.
ONLY FIVE!
C'mon folks - these things will cost under a tenner from what Nellie was telling me, and as she said herself,

** Damn Pedro's word-replacing thingy! Look back a page or two on this thread and you'll figure it out.
Just got Nell's PM .. I'm in! :D
I'm in for a XL tshirt, please.
Looks very much like I'm going to have to miss this one :( Current schedule has me arriving back at Heathrow sometime the same day. Hmm... what if I told everyone I was coming back on Sunday ;)
The real bummer is that I travel back out to the States about two weeks later - the week after Rosfest. :( :( Nothing I could do to swing that one.
Awww... Brom, that sucks! (:-/
That's a shame, Brom.. talk about unfortunate timing! :x
Philly, Landslug, cheers for the commiserations :) . At one point I thought I had more than a 50/50 chance on Rosfest, however even if the dates worked, none of the destinations will, the USA does not lend itself to "Popping down the road" to see a gig!
Operation "T" is well underway!
If anyone else would like to participate, please pm me your requests!
Over and out.
Hmm. As this looms I'm getting just a bit tempted by this, even if I have to do it without my normal travelling companion.
An old man like me seeing two gigs in a fortnight, I'll be spoiling myself!
The Reasoning are currently putting together a special set which will only be heard at this gig and the following day at the Robin in Bilston where Riversea are supporting.
I hope some of the Frost*ies will be hanging about to see the Reasoning too, I do like their albums (well, the first one more than the second.)
I can see everyone heading to the back for a natter after Tinyfish!

Me too
Quote from: "LivingForever"I can see everyone heading to the back for a natter after Tinyfish!
Apart from me who's on photo duty
I'll deffo be watching TR because they're worth it! :D
I don't generally walk away from a show I've bothered to go to....it's much easier to talk to someone who actively listens and I assume it's the same for a band playing....but that's just my opinion/preference. :)
For me, I reckon it depends on how good the show is. I might keep watching, but even if I seek out some fellow Frost*ies for a chat I can still hear the music, so it's all good. (:-D
Agreed, subject to the usual bye-laws about not "talking" at gigs!
*I put "talking" in quotes to indicate I mean the shouted (and obviously hilarious) conversations that some idiots seem to suddenly find essential when surrounded by people who are trying to watch/listen/enjoy the gig. We know that Frost*ies, of course, would never do this.
Well, the Peel's got that great area behind the bar where people really paying attention to the gig usually aren't standing. Most people do seem to do their The Peel gig-talking there, which is cool. Haven't really noticed people talking around the "main" gig area during the three gigs I've been to (at the Peel, that is. I have been to more than there gigs! (;-P ).
The last time Tinyfish played The Peel there was a group chatting throughout and in the end it got too much so I had to turn round and tell them to shut up - when it gets to the point that they are shouting to be heard above the music as well as the between song banter, I feel it has gone too far, and especially in The Peel, where you can always head off to the bar at the back. Apparently, I quite scared them, so you have been warned
I am definitely there to enjoy The Reasoning as well, and will also be going up to Bilston for the added bonus of Riversea. Two excellent bills for these gigs.

Quote from: "Jem"I'll be there and I'll have that Dec Burke lad with me too.
Damn. And I'm driving.
I'm afraid the cost of a room for the night, the small ammount of time to the gig itself and the lack of preparation regarding crossing London has annoyingly ruled me out.
Bugger. :(
Still, I'll see you all in Leeds in June! :)
Quote from: "Mouse"I'm afraid the cost of a room for the night,
Ahh. That's a point. I must book one.
Where's everyone staying who's staying? It could end up being the Travelodge at Tolworth again at this rate...
I'm at the Travelodge in what looks like downtown Kingston .. it seems like Travelodge changes their rates on an hourly basis
Quote from: "landslug"it seems like Travelodge changes their rates on an hourly basis
I keep checking back there to see if the rate for the central Kingston one(s) has dropped below £70.....
Hearing talk of 'downtown Kingston' reminds me of when the US networks used to televise the London Monarchs in the World League of American Football. The Monarchs played at Wembley Stadium, and the tv coverage would cut to shots of 'downtown Wembley' and then in an instant cut to shots of Big Ben and Buckingham Palace. I did worry for American tourists who would think it was all within walking distance of Wembley Park tube station

Bwa ha ha! I love this Forum...
Haha, I really suck, don't I?
And I'm sucking in public too... I have promised that tickets will be booked this evening.
If it's any consolation, the last three weeks have been such a blur that I can't remember if I've booked my ticket or not.
I AM SOOOOO EXCITED!!!!
I will have a car with me  and will meet all relevant t shirt people in the pub (The Farting Cooks, wherever that is) prior to the gig.
*Big sigh*
I can't join you, folks.
It's a combination of expense (still can't get a hotel <£50, travel will cost at least as much again), a surprise moby bill (£250!!!!) and wanting to give my dear Hippess a child-free weekend so that she can get some studying done.
Nellie, I'll pay for the T anyway if you've already bout 'em.
I'm trying not to think about the fun that I'll miss, but it had to happen.
My ticket is winging its way to a deserving recipient :)
I'll be at the Leeds gig come Helen Highwater!

The Farting Cooks sounds splendid! When should we meet there, to allow ultimate warm-up time before the gig?

Intentional 'warming-up' joke?
I have changed my mind as The Farting Cooks looks like a dog forsaken place! I think the gents toilets at the Peel is more appealing.
Does the Travelodge have a refreshment/parking area? Otherwise, I'll be dealing from the back of my motor, awite! ;)
There was nothing wrong with that pub, from what I recall! (or maybe I'd had one beer too many...)
I met some rather nice people there, also. :D

Tinyfish are going on at 8pm and I think the doors usually open at 7.30pm. I will get to the pub between 6.30 and 7pm.
Very looking forward to seeing everyone!
Erm...which pub? The Peel or The "Tooting Taps"?
Doh!
The Fighting Cocks which is on the Old London Road in Kingston, Surrey, England, The World, The Universe etc ;)
Okay a little bit of gig news:
I've spoken to Matt of The Reasoning and they will be on stage on or around 9.00pm. This means that if we want to get a 50 min set in, we'll be on stage roughly about 7.50pm, finishing around 8.45pm.
Leon will be using Vinden's drum kit which means that the changover will be less frantic than last time (yeah right Smiley). We're all looking forward to the evening immensely.
But will you also be doing the live action plastercasting this time? I thought that was a bit of a hit when I saw you last.
Oh modesty forbids sir. ;)
Departing for Reasoning HQ shortly see you later at either The Farting Cooks or The Peel ;)
LFE and I will be heading into Kingston now, grabbing something to eat before going to the Farting Cooks. Hoping to see many of you there!
Wish I could be there... but stricken with a horrendous cold since the chap next to me on the plane back from Atlanta sneezed all over me repeatedly last Sunday night. Hope all attending have a great time!
Tinyfish were great - the Simon/Leon double-act was the best I've ever seen it, performances were ace, even on the complex tracks (despite their protests otherwise).
The Reasoning, well, not really my cup of tea. But good to see so many others enjoying them and the Peel having a busy night.
^^ Aww thank you sir! :D
A HUGE thank you to Jem, Dec and all of the Frosties* that rolled up for the show. It was great to see you all there and we couldn't hope to meet a nicer bunch of people.
We had a fantastic night (even though we managed to destroy The Reasoning's drum kit - sorry about that Vinden sir) and got to meet so many new faces as well which is never a bad thing. I think my only regret (no not taking my trousers down in public, that's an everyday occurrence for me) was being unable to play Cinnamon in full due to the destroyed bass drum. The good news is that we'll be able to make up for that at the gig next week so we're happy.
The 'We Love Twang' t-shirts (courtesy of the wonderful Frostie* Nellie) were fantastic and it made me smile to see so many of them floating about in the crowd as we played.
Once again, cheers boys and girls. You were bloody marvellous.
All that remains to be said is to wish dear bruv and the rest of the Frost chaps well for the Rosfest gig. They are SO gonna be the must see band of the festival!
And for those who missed Tinyfish last night.... "the support band that were scheduled to play with Blind Ego at the Peel next Saturday have pulled out at VERY short notice so we have offered to fill in for them. This means that our two date Peel Residency will conclude with this show.
After that we have no more gigs scheduled for the foreseeable future so if you couldn't make last night's show or you are a Blind Ego fan and are Tiny-curious, why not pop down to see if Leon and destroy another drum kit."
Quote from: "sigod"^^ Aww thank you sir!
Bugger. Sounds like I missed a brilliant night. Next time maybe :D
Ah, yes Bert, you did miss a great night... I nearly ended up with your Twang t-shirt to give to you but I don't think I'll be making it to Leeds so you'll have to wait!
What a brilliant gig- fantastic music, live trouser dropping, spoken word interludes from a man in a lab coat, what more could you want?
I feel sightly guilty for not giving the Reasoning more of a chance but chatting to fellow Frost*ies and Tinyfish band members was much more appealing in the end.
Nice to see so many of you! I'm awaiting the photos of the "Twang Gang" (TM) with some trepidation...
Blimey you got back from dropping Philly at the airport quickly!! Here you go....

I sure did!! 7.15am, to be precise... it must be bedtime by now, surely...
Glad to see the pics are just as bad as I feared!
@ SiGod and the rest of the shoal: You all played a blinder - thanks very much to you all. Special thanks to Leon (the Duracell Batterie Bunny) for making the evening so special with his bid for a Gaffa-Tape endorsement).
@ The Reasoning: Again, well played. Went over very well.
@ Twang: Grats on yet another well organised super-gig! We do love you!
@ Jem and Dec: Sorry I didn't make time to say more than "Hi" before you were gone.
@ Nellie: Thanks for the shirt and for turning me into a (willing) T-Shirt "mule" for Bert and RacingHippo!
@ Philly & LFE: Thanks for my new little friend - too kind. :D
@ MikeEvs: Thanks for the room....how you managed to book a room in a brand new hotel that only opened on Thursday escapes me but apart from the Homer Simpson-style enounter at reception...
Me: "Hello I have a reservation (hands over printed email)"
Receptionist: "Ah yes, Mr. Evans, one moment....can you confirm your initial?"
Me: "M"
Receptionist: "....and the first line of your address?"
Me: "....I don't know."
....the stay was great....if you ignore the completely thought-less goits having a full-on laugh/shouty-chat with repeated door-banging at 04:15am on a Sunday!
@ Last....I can stop all the atting....
Watch out for the soup dragon....it's the Twangers!!!
....and landslug is holding that T-Shirt! (in a cunning black-plastic bag disguise to confound Customs!) ;)
It's a fab pic :D
my tshirt is in disguise?
The very same....

:D
What a hoot of an evening!
Big thanks to Pedders (and Landslug) for agreeing to be my t-shirt mule (Bertie and Hippo(and Roger)). Had a fab chin wag with Tomskerous. Nearly shed a tear at the gorgeousness of LivingForever and Philadelphia. Made Jem pay for a CD he produced and got a lovely squeeze to boot!
Twas great to meet all the Frost*ies and Tinyfishies from far and wide for a big group hug.
Same again next week!
If any East Anglians are thinking of going next week and are interested in sharing transport, please PM me - I've got a weekend of freedom and what better place to go than the Peel!
Quote from: "Nellie"Nearly shed a tear at the gorgeousness of LivingForever and Philadelphia.
Haha! I don't recall having my cheeks squeezed in that 'cheeky boy' fashion for quite some time. That was fun. :)
this is great!!
but, you know guys, I was thinking the pictures would actually have the tshirt visible with each person helping it along...
but somehow, this is all the more special!!!
LOL
Mule's Rules....never publicly display your package.
A) because this would give customs the upper hand and the one thing you don't want are the words "customs", "hand" and "up" in the same sentence, and
B) speaking of sentences, T-Shirt smuggling attracts severe penalties that are diligently applied...T-Shirt mules are hung excessively....
ah, I think maybe I understand...

Thanks for the invite to the photoshoot, guys
Actually, given the number of layers I had on, probably wouldn't have got on the screen anyway ;)
It was a brilliant night...and now another review I am behind on !!!
Quote from: "JamesA"Thanks for the invite to the photoshoot, guys
Well, that's what happens when you decide to, you know, watch the band instead of hanging around at the back jabbering... ;-)
Good to meet you, by the way.

Unless you're Simon, from what I've been reading about trouser-dropping.
Quote from: "Pedro"...T-Shirt mules are hung excessively....
Where's Finbarr Saunders when you need him?
Damn shame I couldn't get there. I've only just allowed myself to visit the forum since Friday as I'd have just get depressed at all the excitement and glowing reports.
Leeds had better make up for it, that's all I can say ;)
Thanks in advance to Pedro for being mule for us erstwhile t-shirt recipients. I won't ask you to display your package publically.
I keep forgetting to say a huge THANK YOU to RacingHippo for doing the artwork for the Twang T's. Without him, none of this would have been possible. (I'd also like to thank my agent and everyone elsr who knows me). :D

And it was good to meet you and so many other new faces, although I clearly still managed to miss some !

You are correct as luck would have it they have chanced upon another night's support.
Hope you can make it. :D
double housewifes choice
just awaiting tomskerous's reply as to whether mrs T will let him out again this month. Theres nobody i'd rather travel to the peel with. too late to phone for a ticket. are there some left?
Twang said on Saturday that there are still tickets left for Blind Ego.

Surely the band don't need tickets....
[Coat=ON]
Well if Kalle can't get in, I'll just take him home with me. Anyway....
If you needed more incentive to get down to the Peel on Sat, this hot off the press...
"In association with INSIDE OUT Records On the BLIND EGO / TINYFISH show this Sat, we will be doing in between the bands a playback of the new IQ album Frequency :-) "

Sadly I have failed both Sigod and Ms Witch - the other half is babysitting for someone else so they can have a carefree wedding anniversary. Hope everyone has a truly ace time though.
That is a shame. Wish we lived in that neck of the woods - I'd be taxi-ing like a man possessed.... ;)
It sounds like it might be a bit of a girls night out judging by Sarah's reaction!
Oh dear....Twang had better look out....ladies rush the stage....transfer the gig to the other room....replace thier guitars with poles....doesn't bare thinking about....
....and that's just the support act....
Steady on now Pedders... ;)
Quote from: "Pedro"T-Shirt mules are hung excessively....
Well, I dont like to brag but.. ;) ;)
Sadly I can't make this weekend either ... which is a shame.
I think my next Peel trip will be on the 31st of May to see Magenta (hopefully qith my favourite gig buddy!)
:D

I very much hope you actually turn up on the 30th then ;)
I already hate the 30th of May.
Magenta at The Peel
Mostly Autumn at the Academy in Oxford
Jump at The Limelight in Aylesbury
All far too local to me, and I can only go to one
Horray.
Having seen Asia the night before (Kentish Town, The Forum), myself and some fellow young proggers found ourselves at the Peel on the Saturday at the Tinyfish/The Reasoning gig. What a fantastic evening, we even got to meet the men of the moment.
No, not Tinyfish... Frost* :o

Yes, Jem is trying to poke his fingers up my nose, after I completely blew his mind with the sheer concept of Orange Custard Creams.
Here's a couple of links to my photos from this gig:

Fab. :D
Glad to see that you're wearing your Tinyfish badge!
I decided to splinch myself and half-join you on the flipside!
Translation: I've registered on the Tinyfish forum, I'll be lurking about for a bit before I start posting. See you there! (:-)

Splinch? What on earth does that mean?! :-)
You definitely need to read some Harry Potter... Give it a few years and it'll be in the dictionary, I'm sure! (;-)
"The term "splinch" (which appears to be a wizarding dialect word, not normally in use by Muggles) somewhat resembles the standard English word "splice", which means to take two separate things (usually things that come in strands, such as ropes or DNA) and weave them together to make one thing."
Basically it's accidentally splitting yourself in two. (:-P

It sounds rather painful - I imagine tight-rope-walkers might be able to get insurance to cover that happening....

Not as painful as what you have to go through to understand what it means

I keep telling people that success at Scrabble is not about vocabulary so much as tactics and skill...
And they don't buy it any more than I do.
Succez at Szcrabble iz all abowt knowing how to correctly zpell certain wordz
Is the past tense of "splinch", "splunch"? And, if not, why not?
Quote from: "catherine"Is the past tense of "splinch", "splunch"? And, if not, why not?
That'd be a very good question for JK Rowling!
Meanwhile, I'm still angry that the British English past tense word for "sneak" is "sneaked". Seriously, just this one time PLEASE do what the Americans do and say "snuck"! It sounds so much funnier!
But in correct English, 'snuck' is the past tense of 'snick'.

No.
Fair enough.
