Well, what a treat that was – getting to see Joe Satriani, one of the finest guitarists on the planet, jamming with Jem.  And the boy done good! If you didn't know that this was his 1st gig with Satch, you'd have thought he'd been in the band for years. What impressed me most was that he was often playing note for note unison or harmony runs with Joe, who's not exactly the slowest guitarist in the world!   You also have to remember that only 2 weeks after TDOTR (with its 1½ hour set mostly of non-Frost* material), Jem had to learn, master and remember a 2½ hour set of music of huge complexity and of which he'd had no prior involvement.  And play it on someone else's keyboard set-up, with no Fantom in sight.  And perform lead cowbell! 8-)

Satch himself was on incredible form – best of the 4 times I've seen him.  Great set list, with a mix of the very good new album and lots of classics.  Highlights for me were, amongst others, the Mystical Potato Head Groove Thing and Wind In The Trees featuring a solo spot for Jem with an amazing piano solo.  Wish I'd filmed it but the bouncers were keeping an eye out for people doing that.  I did manage to grab a few photos though.  Mike Evs will no doubt take much better ones at Birmingham tonight but the ones below should give a flavour of what it was like.

When they came on for the encore, Jem laughed when he spotted my Frost* t-shirt and gave a wave.  :P

On lead cowbell...

'What's that chord, Joe?'

Let's hear it for the new boy!

Mission accomplished!
Come on, you\'re a lion!

Jem

Was that you??!!

Ah mate, sorry I couldn't make you out better, the lights were pretty full on onstage and it was hard to see too much.

It was so brilliant to spot a Frost shirt. It was like a great big hug of reassurance in what has been a pretty intense week mentally. Thank you sincerely for that.

I owe you a beer, deffo.  :D  :D

Awesome! Thanks for the report and the photos!

I'm anxious to hear what Satch and Co. had to say afterward and have to wonder if this will lead to more high profile shows for the Jemster.
...and I can feel the world is turning...turn around

Performing with Satriani is pretty high up on the list I would've thought!

Good luck to Jem with all other session/fill in/ big name gigs from here on out!

Jem did you like playing an SV1?  I'm still considering buying one.

Jem

I have to say I didn't love it. Not £1500's worth of love it anyway. When I think what a Fantom or a Nord Wave or an even an M3 can do for the same sort of money.

However, I absolutely ADORED the Rhodes. Especially through Joe's Ice 9 distortion pedal. I think I may have to get both. Eventually... :D

There's an interview from a few weeks ago on Music Radar where he answers the question/explains the Marshalls

Nick28 says he noticed you switched from Peavey to Marshall. What was the reason for that?

"I was looking for a bigger sound that had more articulation and was more natural sounding. That was the main thing. I still had some issues with the Peavey JSX, things that were slated to be changed but were never implemented, and I was getting very frustrated. I had to walk away because Peavey weren't meeting my changing needs. Marshall has been very responsive to all the things I wanted, so it was easy to go back. I've played Marshalls for most of my life, so it wasn't a big step to start using their amps again."
