I'll definitely be at the 013 show in the Netherlands.

Might also get a ticket for Cologne, it's not too far away. Was actually planning to go to London too, but unfortunately time won't allow it.

Hmmm..... the Astoria show from the 'Bridge Across Forever' tour is in my top 5 gigs of all time... wondering whether to sully the memory by seeing them again.

Maybe the new album will seem better live.

Don't wait and see for too long. I have a feeling that this tour might sell out.

(But hey: I also thought that the new album would rank higher in the charts than the latest DT one...)

Still not sure about this. Its a lot of money, I know its an evening with but that still might only be four songs! So I'll sit on it until I'm sure, I'm not such an enormous fan that I couldn't bear to miss it although its something I would like to see. Having said that, its not like its a farewell tour.

I dunno, Transatlantic always wandered too far into the 'can't be arsed to edit' side of prog for me so although there are undoubtedly moments of genius I really can't be arsed to sit through thirty minutes of music every single time I want to listen to them.

I went to that too !!! Got loads of pics. Might put them up somewhere.

LOL  :D  I know what you mean. I must admit, at the Astoria last time, I inwardly groaned when they announced the encore would be All of the Above - I'd had enough of 30 minute "epics" for one night.

Just a quick note to say that the knowledgeable Mr. Robinson of F2 Music/progrock.co.uk etc. said on Saturday at Wath that the 2CD+DVD version of The Whirlwind has now been deleted so if you are planning on getting it, get it soon.

Well I saw/heard them tonight. It wasn't perfect, but it was still amazing! Enjoyed the old work much more than the new stuff though. That's not to say I don't like the new album, I love it. But I don't think they're quite comfortable with playing it live yet. A bit messy at times, especially on Roine Stolt's end.

Still, had a great night! Can't wait to see them again in two weeks.

Köln was AWESOME. Not perfect, no. But I don't care.
Daniel was the winner of the evening for me. Is there anything that guy can't do?? Most of the time, he played 2 instruments at once, he was rocking out all night all. Guitars, keyboards, bass, singing, percussion - mindblowing!

I agree, that man is fantastic! The highlight for me was at the ending of Duel With The Devil. The choir part, where he took on the ridiculously high voice. Incredible!

Good vibraslap skills too!

Oh and Neal on the drums and Mike crowdsurfing wasn't bad either.

O'Neils and Walkabout are right next door to the venue I don't fancy walkabout, O' Neills is ok but can get crowded as most gig goers seem to gather in there.  I think there are a couple of other pubs opposite the tube station  (central line one not the Market one )

O'Neills from 5.30 then?

Yeah they did indeed. We wouldn't leave, and just kept on applauding like we did 9 years ago. We figured it worked then, it should work again now. And it did!

They got back on stage after about 5 minutes, and Mike mentioned that they'd never played Return of the Giant Hogweed live before, but they still pretty much nailed it!

Looks like I'm the first one home - not easy getting back to Wales and IoW from London on a Friday night.

Yes - they filmed it for the rest of you to enjoy.  Be interested to see how they deal with the bit where the stage lights went out for 30secs - the band kept playing anyway.

They played all your faves over 3 hours - sadly 11pm curfew arrived so no time for a second encore (Return of the Giant Hogweed - now I feel short changed!).  They all seemed to be having a good time down below - including the ones who had to surf Mr Portnoy - me and MikeEvs had a nice view from the comfy seats on Level 1.

Plenty of Frost* T shirts in evidence and a very proud Vitamin P was there to see them.  Mentioned to him that limited edition prints of his stuff could find a market in the Frost* store - but don't worry Nellie - he's going to wait until TPE rush is out of the way.

The orange t shirts were an eye watering £30 - luckily they only had XXXXXL left so I couldn't be tempted.

Best gig of the year so far....

It was great indeed..... once we were able to get in! They sell to many tickets for that place nowadays.... me and my friends couldn't see anything for the fist 30 minutes. Then we got directed to the left side of the stage using the corridor in front of the stage and everything was fine from then on.  :)

Portnoy OWNS!!!!!!!!

Quote from: "RWA"It was great indeed..... once we were able to get in! They sell to many tickets for that place nowadays.... me and my friends couldn't see anything for the fist 30 minutes. Then we got directed to the left side of the stage using the corridor in front of the stage and everything was fine from then on.  :)

Portnoy OWNS!!!!!!!!

Sorry to hear that. Didn't find it that busy, even though it sold out.

I had a good view the entire evening. Even better on the second encore when a lot of people left already.

My throat still hurts from screaming and singing/shouting along though.

Not that busy?! Are you kidding me?!
I mean, they sold out the place for sure (which is great) but we arrived at about 8 p.m. and there was no way to get into the actual room anymore. I've been to 013 many times between 2000 - 2003 and I always loved it but this time we couldn't even get into the room itself. Me and my friends have been to many MANY gigs and festivals and always know how to get around but we never experienced anything like this. We were about to leave when we talked our way in talking to one of the security people there leading use to left from the stage using the corridor. After that it was great but the concert was all ready on its way for 30 minutes.

Again, great gig but 013 really screwed this one up by selling more tickets then possible.
Nevertheless I was glad to be there. I saw TA over there in 2001 as well as the NM-Testimony gig in 2003 (or was that in 2002?) and this one was the best for sure. they frick'n rule!  8-)

There are certain bands that I always wanted to see live but, for whatever reason, I never did.  Transatlantic was one.  I was not a happy bunny when Neal Morse pulled the plug on them almost a decade ago.  So I was delighted when they reformed to produce The Whirlwind last year and even more so when they announced a tour including the UK.  So I finally got to see them in Manchester last night.

Wow!   Well worth the wait.  Firstly, the whole of The Whirlwind and after a break what Mike Portnoy described as a 2 hour encore - how prog is that?!  :D Highlight for me had to be Stranger In Your Soul complete with much swapping of instruments (just demonstrating how ridiculously talented these 5 musicians (including Daniel Gildenlow) actually are) and a rendition of Smoke On The Water, complete with bass pedal solo!   8-)

Great sound and venue and a big thanks to Ecosse for acting as taxi and Biskitbass for the laughs along the way (I need to get that Thumbjam app - Jem in a box!)

Fantastic gig on Friday.  Mrs One and I were about 8 feet back from Neal.  Some really pleasant chaps saw my wife's diminutive 5'2" in heels and very kindly let her in front of them. The guys were all on fire.  Neal really performs from the heart.  Pete T was having loads of fun, and Portnoy? What can I say? An incredible talent. I loved the moment when we all started to clap along just before it went into some odd time sig and he conducted the clapping so we were all in time. Daniel Gildenlow is bonkers mad. And all 5 guys are awesomely talented.

Got back to Weston upon mud around 2:30 Saturday morning.  And the rest of the weekend has been something of a blur, but I've had Transatlantic ear-worms (//http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earworm) all weekend which has been a nice souvenir (since I couldn't afford a T Shirt!)

Sorry I didn't manage to meet any of you guys! I did spot a few Frost tee shirts at a distance and the guy stood to my right had a frost screensaver on his phone - I went to say hi afterwards but in the exodus didn't spot him (So Hi if it was you)

That doesn't sound very pleasant! I really didn't notice anything of the sort. I got in at about 7:30PM and it was just a great evening from there on. I think I was just too focused on the music to see just how crowded it actually was.

I've been at 013 a few times as well. It's my favorite venue here in the Netherlands. I was there in 2001 with TA, and the Neal Morse gig too. Actually don't remember when exactly that was, other than a long time ago. I was 13 years old when I saw Transatlantic. That makes me feel kind of old/nostalgic.

I think that could well have been me! Did the chap in question start crying during 'Bridge Across Forever', sing loudly to all the keyboard solos and start jumping up and down at particularly exciting moments?

Because.. yeah... that guy wasn't me...  :D

The Sherds Bush show was a truly wonderful gig, the band played with a real passion and seemed to be having a ball. I was sat up in the top balcony and had a great view of the whole stage and after the show finished my friend remarked that out of the many gigs we've been too that this was one of the very best of all, and I had to agree with him.
I wore my Frostfest T- shirt and had a few positive comments from other members of the audience.

Think you were sat in the row in front of me and  L33VEY at least someone in Frostfest t-shirt was :)

Fantastic show at 'The Bush', not a dull moment, no lags just full on prog! Good sound too, although our view was a bit intermitent. I could see Neal Morse was visibly moved by the crowd response to The Whirlwind. We moved round during the break to get a better vantage point of Mr Portnoy for the second half... that guy certainly brings it. Nice red Telecaster Mr Stolt picked up for this part of the show too, sounded great! And the Portnoy crowd surf - brilliant!  :D

Good to catch up with a few Frost*ie mates before the show in the pub next door too.

The red-eye back to the IW was hard going but doable, aided by raiding the onboard shop on the ferry for non-healthy food types.

A great evening!

All though I'm not a massive fan of "The Whirlwind" I ordered my copy (5 disc version) from Radiant Records a couple of nights ago.... After reading all the reviews of the shows I can't wait to actually see it. I've got all their dvds and cds so far so I need to keep upto date. I may listen to The Whirlwind on the way home from work tonight.. See if I can get my head around it this time.
I saw Transatlantic many years ago and thoroughly enjoyed the gig... This DVD sounds very promising!!!!! :D

The very nice postman delivered the rather gorgeous deluxe 2 DVD + 3 CD pack this morning.

So this weekend, we can try and spot ourselves in the audience  :)

Looking forward to it.

Still "gig of the year" for me.  (Of course the Frost* filming event is still to come ;) )

I cancelled my order with Amazon based on that delay. Play.com had the box in stock so ordered it with them Winner. Should be at home waiting for me as I type. Looking forward to seeing and hearing it all. Went to the Manchester gig and have to say it was one of the best gigs I've ever seen.  :D

Watched the DVDs over the weekend.  It was lovely to relive the gig.  Was that really MAY this year? Where have the months gone?

Spotted myself several times in the crowd shots, and the top of Mrs One's head a couple of times (poor thing, at 5' 2" she really struggles sometimes at these standing only gigs - I'll have to start taking a milk crate or something for her to stand on :) )

The visuals were really nice. Having footage from 10 cameras was probably a nice luxury for the editor!  Roine did a brilliant job of the audio mix, capturing the energy of the crowd and getting a nice balance of the band.

Hope we don't have to wait another 10 years for more.

This is a great looking and sounding DVD. I soooo wish this was available on bluray, that would be awesome.

But they play too few songs
