Hi,
The board has seen some applications recently with usernames that are obviously spammers and some that look a lot like they might be.

I have begun deleting/rejecting those that "look iffy" but this is obviously a process based on what I consider to "look iffy".

So, if you are a boney fido Frost*ie-in-waiting and you find that your application does not get accepted then your options are these :-

If you know someone who is already a Frost*ie, get them to vouch for you.
If you are already a member of another forum or on Twitter/Facebook etc. nudge someone on there to vouch for you.
If you cannot get vouched, try registering again but avoid names that look/sound "iffy" - something related to the business of the forum would be better but don't be surprised if something like "Viagrameddscheap" doesn't work.
If you still can't get on the board after all that then I can only apologise...I've had no training in this job at all!  :)
All the best,
Pedro

RacingHippo

I have modified the registration page to include a New Widget that will hopefully reduce the number of spammy registrations.

But I need help setting it up - go here!

I'm quite proud of getting in without even having to use the shift key to write my name!  ;)
Broadband! A whole 2.5MB of it!

I use a three stage process on my forums. first I google the ip address and that usually flags up 90% of spammers straight away cos most of them are too stupid to use a different address. I also google the email address..which they have to verify anyway so that get's rid of another 5% and after that if they are finally let on the forum I have a bunch of very active moderators with permissions to instantly ban anyone who even remotely looks like a spammer :) So far...last ten years, it's worked a treat :)

I'm immensely grateful to the team of mods and admins on here. Things rarely get nasty (cos real Frost*ies don't do that) and now we have the anti-spam protections it's been nice to activate accounts with some confidence.  :)
