Frost* are playing :-
Islington 02 Academy 2 in London on Friday December 3rd
Manchester Academy 3 on Saturday 4th December
The Robin In Bilston on Sunday December 5th
Just realized that yesterday and decided to go to the London gig and make a proper weekend out of it.
Which fellow Frosties* will I most likely:
- be running into that evening?
- have to avoid that evening? ;)
IOW: who's going?!
IOW - Isle Of Wight? ;)
There is also the filming of the live DVD on Monday December 6th, "somewhere in the Midlands".

Have to be back on Monday because my son has to attend school. Unless he drops out before December; then it's on!
Quite right, very responsible of you.
I've never been to the Islington venue. Does anyone know if there's any age restictions?
We'll be at the Bilston gig on the Sunday night and "somewhere in the Midlands on the Monday (already booked the day of work!).

The site says for gigs anyone under 14 much be accompanied by an adult.
Or do you mean what the maximum age restriction is? :D

Well then you might as well be at the London gig and make it a triple experience. ;)
my troupe will be at the London gig, and the Bilston gig, with an open mind for the DVD recording, have to see exactly when and where that is first :D
Hi All, forum newbie here! I've de-lurked at last and decided to join in the fun.
I intend to attend the Islington O2 gig (as I live about 15mins away) along with tres amigos I have converted to the Frost* side (mwhahahaha).
BUT i haz confusion :? - On the O2 website it shows a bad called Cathedral playing that night, doors open 1830, wheras Ticketmaster says Frost*/Ark, Doors at 1800. Am I right in thinking there are there two bits to the Islington O2? Not really into Doom Metal so need to make sure I'm going to the right bit!
(blimey there's a lot of '2's, 'to's and two's in there  )
Welcome to the board!!
I have no idea about the Islington set-up but I bet others do.
Hmm...your avatar...are you a stick man?
I'm planning on being at everything except the Manchester gig

Welcome to the forum JJB!
The O2 Islington seems to have 4 spaces. So there are multiple gigs/parties going on there. I guess it's all about who's
the loudest that evening! :?
And if you indeed play a stick....... you HAVE to join the forum collab song! 8-)
Thanks for the greets and the info RWA, Pedro :D
Quote from: "Pedro"Hmm...your avatar...are you a stick man?
I am indeed a 'Stickhead' of long standing, hence the avatar, though I'm going to knock up a better one  with a Frost* twist in the best traditions of the Forum members. Hah! that'll get the creative juices flowing...
Quote from: "RWA"And if you indeed play a stick....... you HAVE to join the forum collab song! 8-)
Forum collab song? I had no idea such a wonderous thing existed. I'd love to be involved in that!
I've got some of my musical ramblings (decidedly proggy of course :)) up online, I'll post some links in the appropriate section. 'spect the enthusiasm for my Sticking may well wane once you hear how I mangle it
We need to arrange a way to identify ourselves to other forum members on the nights in question. I plan to wear a Frosterisk in my blazer buttonhole. Any other ideas?

Nah, that's no good, everyone on the streets of Islington has those... Perhaps I'll have me ears trimmed into a Frosterisk

Two years since the Peel Xmas party, how time flies!
Sorry LF. Congratulations on being a little over 3 months away from your second anniversary! :)
Absolutely, there can't be many couples brought together by Prog - just ask my missus...
For what it's worth, I'll be at the Islington gig, also coming over from Holland (Hague area). Not sure how I'll be getting there yet; I think I'm in Washington DC the day before, so may fly straight into Heathrow. Mrs TA may or may not be there; not sure about that either yet.

Haha, if I remember rightly, I think we did - and the look on her face said it all.
:D
Aww... I'll save my congratulations for nearer the time, though. :P
I have bought tickets for the Manchester gig, and would love to get to Islington, too. We'll have to see how my financial position alters over time.
Let's see if I can get to the Islington one... I really hope to make it this time! I need a Frost* gig and I would love to know some of you lovely lovely people! :D

Having said that, switched over to Sky Arts in the middle of High Voltage. "Who's that" says Mrs L - "Marillion" I reply.
"Didn't we go and see them in the early 80's - didn't think they'd still be going". We both quite liked Marillion back then, so a touch of Prog did bring us together! It was a long time ago...
Shoot....! We're not going. :(
In all our wisdom we've decided to not make this trip. In certain occasions it's possible to get 1 or 2 days off for Daniël from school but that only seems possible around official holidays. This means we have to get from our town to London on Friday afternoon which is virtually impossible. And we would have to get back again on Sunday afternoon. This trip was mend for attending the Frost* gig and to spend a few days in London. Both seem to become extremely difficult to fit in. Spending all that money for just 2 days (leave alone the fact we can barely make it on time for the gig anyway) seems silly. So we've decided to do it some other time. :|
But! This does mean I can finally spend some money on getting a new DAW! I'm in desperate need of a new one so that's good news. :)
Oh, that's a real shame Ron but it soulnds like you are making a wise choice as a parent...and a gear head!! ;)
I think/hope that the wider world might see a bit more Frost*iness next year so I hope you'll get another chance before too long.
Quote from: "RWA"In certain occasions it's possible to get 1 or 2 days off for Daniël from school but that only seems possible around official holidays.
Well, being a teacher myself, I can say that I'm glad you chose not to go. Some parents choose the simple way: they just write an excuse ("Sorry, my kid was sick." - unfortunately, that's enough here...) and a few days later, you get to know that the whole family was at some music festival.
And even though I personally LOVE going to gigs, there's no way I'd miss school. Has to do with responsibility and respect. Same goes for the parents.
We never took ours out of school unless it was for a medical or serious family thing (like a funeral) thing.
Daft really because their academic prowess now suggests that it would have made very little difference! :)
Just imho.
I've taken both of my boys out of school for trips / holidays. I firmly believe that the experiences of those other activities far out weighs the missing school for a few days or even a week.
They catch up very quickly. I give them the respect they deserve. They're resilient little buggers. ;-)
taking my boy out again for summers end
Quite right too....
...oh, and when I said; "their academic prowess now suggests that it would have made very little difference", I meant that it's sometiems hard to tell they went to school at all! :)
(I jest of course, just off-setting the shock that our little boy is off to Uni tomorrow... :( )
He'll be fine, Pedders. ;)
Flippin' students.... ;)
(Thanks Mouse)
i'll be at the December O2 gig. Pedders, i sympathise. My big girl has just returned from boarding school for the weekend. I've missed her SO much. She's grown nearly an inch in 3 weeks!

Yeah, it really goes against our principles. I know a lot of people make no problem out of it but for me it's the same as calling in sick while you're not sick at all. I hate that.
Besides, he gets enough culture, trust me. In 2 weeks we're going to see Simon Phillips doing his Drum Affairs. On a Saturday so no harm done! ;)
Anyway! No time to bugger! I have some DAW shopping to do! :D

Blimey. Legend has it that they used to put bromide in the boy's tea at boarding school, but for girls, it seems to be nitrates :o
Or has she been on the rack for misdemeanours ;)
(I recall going on tour to Wales with my school's rugby first XV in the 1970s. We played one game against a boys boarding school [during which I was completely annihilated by my opposite number on the wing, a Welsh national under-18 player], and stayed for a meal after the game.
Following the example of everyone else in the dining hall, we all lined up to get a mug of tea from a big urn, only to see the boarding school's matron rush towards us, highly flustered, before redirecting us to a smaller urn of tea, made just for our consumption.
I still remember the looks on the faces of the boarders, as they began to add 2 + 2 ... 8-) )

And I've just ordered two tickets for the DVD gig, hell yes =D What a couple of days that's gonna be ^_^
Also, that poster advertising the gig is absolutely sublime, love it ^_^
Also also, I forgot to put my name in the order, but sent the store an e-mail, that'll be OK won't it? *is worried*

Strange as i got mine a good month ago and they are numbered 249 and 250 with a few zeros before for good measure!
That's OK then - I got a bit worried when ticket numbers 4 and 5 arrived yesterday!

Have to use my flexi time up on covering the motorcycle live show at the NEC as I have press access through my "other" job, which means I can't do the London show as I have to work that Friday as I'm already taking the 27th and 29th of November off for the above event and the 6th and 7th for the DVD gig. I might be able to make Bilston as I might go back to the NEC for the last day of the bike show and then it's not from there to Bilston and then on to Derby.
Hi everyone. Trying to buy a pair of a tickets for the sold out London gig .... can anyone help ... please  Help!
Welcome to the board.
It sold out? That's good (for the band/venue) but I hope you track down some spares.
I think I am going to post this every day until they arrive....
Still not here...
Thanks Pedro for the welcome. Fingers crossed that I can buy a pair (nothing on e-bay yet :? ).

If I remember rightly, Trapezium Artist has one spare ticket and did Living Forever get rid of his spare?
Might be worth a look.
Yes, I have one spare if anyone would like it?
Courtesy of the very very kind Mr. RWA!
:D
I'm after one of those pescky O2 tickets too. I've indoctrinated a new Frostie and the initiation ceremony involves the ritual moshing to live BLM so...save me going by myself and looking like a saddo stood and the back with a thousand yard stare and let me know if anyone's got a spare!!!
Hi all, this is going to be a long shot: does anyone have five tickets available for Islington? I've left my booking late, I know, but have four new Frost*ies (plus myself) all stoked up for this.
There will be biscuits involved...

My panic over...Trapezium has come to my rescue. Thanks all!
Hi Living Forever - happy to buy your ticket please!
not arrived...
Panic not Sarah. See Tickets have this annoying policy of only sending tickets out in the week before the event in some cases. I've had tickets arrive the day before a gig in the past, talk about frantic!!!

Well, it's worth a try. Bugger, what a way to introduce oneself to the board! I'm sure I had more to say before now...
Anyway, I'll go back to lurking - enjoy the biscuits (and the gigs :( )
I'm not really panicking. Yet. More just an annoyance with it all. I think they were ordered in May or whenever they first went on sale. If (like some fishtankers) you went direct to the box office, you have your ticket in your hand. If there was going to be some big black market ebay sale of these tickets then you could of bought them direct (and saved booking fees) and flogged them already.
When they ever arrive, I have two tickets. One is for a friend but dependent on whether he is well enough to go or not, I might have one spare for a fellow Frost*ie. The friend is a Frost*ie too but he doesn't post much.
Yep, it is a bit like that - I've asked them about it previously and it's apparently a measure to avoid reselling of tickets via ebay etc, as if you only get them yourself in the week of the gig, it's more difficult for you to ebay them.
It sucks as once again the fans are disadvantaged by the mindless idots who buy loads of tickets with the sole intention of selling them on.
Just over two weeks to go now!
Who's at Manchester? Maybe I should start a new Thread?

Starting to panic a bit now...my tickets still haven't arrived and whats more they're being delivered to my home, not my uni home, so my parents need at least a day in advance to forward them on to me. What is Seetickets policy generally if they don't arrive in time? Can you get in touch with the box office and pick up your tickets with your credit card or anything?
I'm sure a combination of identity, Email confirmation, proof of address, credit card used and all that would be enough to get you in if the tickets don't turn up in time. It's not your fault for not recieving them, so you shouldn't be denied entry to a gig you've paid for.

Not for me, but which night?
Spent two days stuck at home with no trains to London so getting worried about Friday now. Anyone else heading in from the East Sussex direction?
Very worried about Saturday's gig in Manchester. Last time they came here, I was left black-light-machine-less because John could not make it in time. Luckily they played it in Leeds when they supported DT however! Just hoping we don't miss the show, we're getting the train from Ncl about 3pm to get there around 6 and head straight there. Nightmare! Anyone else going to Manchester show?
Although east coast have said, any tickets can be used up to two hours either side of the booked train, to help people get to places in time. Might have to take advantage of that one!

Im getting worried about getting to any of the gigs. Here in the North East we are pretty much snowed in.

one down one left if anyones interested, id hate to see it go to waste.
Just a quick heads up for anyone heading to Bilston on Sunday - a few people are meeting for a pre-gig drink at the Olde White Rose just round the corner from the Robin.
So far enlisted are the first lady of the IB Forum, Dena, the legend that is VitaminP and my good self. If yuo get to the Robin early and there aren't many people about, chances are we're in there!!!! ;)
Getting extremely worried about Manchester and Derby now. :( If I don't make it on the Monday, someone has to take a picture of Roger! There's no way he's missing that. 8-)
Yeah, bit concerned about getting up to Islington from down here (IW), we don't actually have much on the Island yet but it looks to be worse up through the top of Hants & Surrey... supposed to be another band of snow coming through tonight.
Typically it looks like it'll warm up for Saturday, nice timing!
Getting slightly concerned about getting from Sheffield to Manchester now...
Was planning to go back home on the friday and then travel up on the saturday, but not too optimistic about trains at the moment.... :?
what is the snow like in Derby?

I can't speak from personal experience, but it looks like (//http://news.bbc.co.uk/local/derby/hi/people_and_places/nature/newsid_9238000/9238716.stm) it's the same cold, white fluffy stuff we get everywhere else.
Keleigh - can you confirm this?

yay! I thought Pedro might respond like that - thank you
Anyway - on a serious note, when do we know if the gigs are cancelled? Especially Derby. I can't see myself getting to Derby at present but will obviously try and make an effort. I don't want to do the trip if I get there and find it has been cancelled.

I deputise for "Pedro, Prince of Puns" when he's unavailable. Glad it was up to snuff :)

I'd imagine we won't know for certain until a day or 2 beforehand. Weather forecasts have been a little unreliable of late!
Snowing quite heavily in Nottingham (11:15, Thursday). My partner drives to Derby for work - main routes passable.
I guess the big question is if the guys Kit gets to Derby in time for the show?
All we can do is sit and wait....
I was supposed to be going to Peterborough tomorrow night on a work Christmas outing, but that has been cancelled due to the weather. And that's why I wasn't going to see Frost* tomorrow!
So now you can come.
I checked the forecast on the BBC and it said that there would be a few more flurries this afternoon in London and it would warm to a balmy 1 degree tomorrow.
Ooh, better break out the suncream and the barbecues! :D
It also looks like we might get a break from more snowfall on Saturday, which might give some Frost*ies the time they need to escape to Manchester. I hope.

Oo, I think more glue is required. Either that or I print off another Rog as he's looking a bit worn...

no doubt about that! :D
Happy Frost* week everyone

Just a bit a armless fun....
Well, I think sadly we're gonna have to bail out on the Islington gig... it just doesn't look sensible to try and get up and back overnight (I have an midday appointment on Saturday).
What a bummer, hope it clears for us to get up to DOTR and Tinyfish next week.
:( :x :(

Yikes - means we need a new singer for the Christmas song!
As I said elsewhere, that's crap news, Cosmic. I'm sure you and Ms. Mallet have made a wise decision. :( Hopefully, we'll see you at The Peel next week! :)
Looks like we're going to attempt to get to Islington in one of these (//http://www.mitsubishi-cars.co.uk/l200/) which should be fun! Although parking might be tricky on Upper Street!!

With one of those you don't park next to cars, you can park on top of them
I'll try to tweet my way around the tour. I'm Nelliebot if anyone wants to follow me :D
Ladies and Gents, the day is upon us. The day we have waited long and hard for. The pot of gold at the end of a very long rainbow. To those attending, I wish you good luck. To those not, your time will come, be it tomorrow, the day after or some unknown point in the future. For those in attendance...tonight is the night.
So I'll see you all in the queue, yeah?
I hope everyone going tonight has a wondreful time and you make it there and back through the snow safely and without problems. To those going to Manchester, I just might see you tomorrow! :D
shall be battling to get there soon - looks like a long bus ride and then a tube - don't rate my chances of getting a train

Hello! Sorry it took me a while to get over here, I've been busy prepping gear for the show :)
The snow is snowy ;) We've loaded everything into the venue and we're going in on Sunday to set everything up, so as far as we're concerned all is well.
Just got in after a chilly drive home through the Tundra of East Sussex and what can I say? What a cracking gig. My first Frost gig so I don't have any to compare it with but just for the sheer musicianship it was the best gig I've seen...period. I won't give away too many details as I don't want to spoil any suprises for the Manchester and Bilston gigs but...Whoa. Loved the new Pocket Sun arrangement and TDL was tight as a ducks proverbial so the rehearsals must've worked. The guys were seriously on form (despite a few seamlessly covered up Godfrey-slips). The kit looked fantastic and sounded even better. And my God....Nathan King.....WHAT a player.
Really nice feeling in the crowd too - what a lovely bunch of Frosties you are. I was right up the front and it got a bit hot after Ark had been on (who were also very good btw) and I had a very odd feinty moment (maybe I was just too excited) and thanks to everyone around me who gave me a bit of space and let me back in again after I got some air.
High-light was definately the biscuits though - scrummy Nells (and nice to meet you finally).
Ears still ringing but going to bed a very happy Frostie :D :D :D
Wot a great night, cant wait till sunday when it happens all over again, really nice to meet million town 2 city 0 . :D

Ah, that was you! I was standing just to your right and was wondering if you were ok! My Mrs also had a similar 5 minutes just before Frost came on, so it's not just you!
I'm too tired to say much about the gig except that it was easily the best I've ever seen Frost* play, I said to Karin afterwards, it was almost like going to a regular gig instead of the "mates having a laugh" feel of some of the previous gigs. ;o)
And there was still plenty of time for levity and merriment! But seriously, the band were on fire almost from the get go (I think the first song will be ace by Monday, as long as Jem turns the keyboards right up from the start of the gig!)
No more or I'll spoil something!
Oh, except to say that although I missed Dec's vocals a little bit, I think this is the best band Jem's had- Blunders and King are a revelatory rhythm section! There were some fills there I would have sworn impossible if I didn't see them with my own eyes...
And there were actually no points this evening where I thought "oh that's not quite as good as the album"- previously some bits of BLM and Milliontown just seemed too difficult to pull off, but I'm happy to say this band is really rocking them.
Great night and super excited for Monday now!
QuoteI was standing just to your right and was wondering if you were ok!
Oh yes....I recognise you from your avatar now!! D'oh!
It was very odd - really thought I was gonna pass out. Had too many winter clothes tied round my waist I think. Did feel a muppet though - waited months and months for that moment and then went all
"pre-teen at a TakeThat gig"

Hahaha- funny you should say that because there were some young lads behind us in the queue who went all silly when the band walked out of the front door for some fresh air... "oh my god, it's THEM!"
Actually there were a lot of new ( and young) faces tonight so the word must be getting out there a bit which is very encouraging. Much as I'd like to see every band I like at The Peel, I'm always bloody proud of "our" bands when they start getting more recognition. They certainly deserve it, especially on tonight's showing!
Dear Nellie
Lovely Biscuit
thanks
L33VEY
So many young uns. :D Frost* are the only prog gigs I go to where there are lots of people younger than me. It is FAB, makes me feel like I'm down with the kids instead of being old. :)

Hi Stu - your gonna hate me for saying this but the Islington gig was awesome :D
Must admit the vocals sound balance was a bit dodgy early on but it didn't detract from a great night. Highlights of course were Hyperventilate, Milliontown, BLM (John's guitar solo was spot on) and The Other Me which rocked! Also took some pics which turned out to be a bit c**p - anyone got some decent pics from last night?
No Snowman though - which would have been appropriate for my journey back home to North Kent!
Ark were excellent as well - so much so that I bought their CD (and a Milliontown poster) - which gave me a chance to say hello to Nellie (sorry there was no Crabbies Ginger Beer).
Thanks to Turbo for the spare ticket - it was good to meet up with you guys - you must be even happier today after the Arsenal result today ;)
Thanks also to Living Forever (didn't realise you were going to the gig) for the other ticket - although - you guessed it - it didn't arrive due to the suspension of our postal deliveries thanks to the above mentioned snow :(
Anyway - really hope that you make Derby Stu - keep us posted - and to all the other Frosties out there enjoy Manchester, Bilston and Derby!
