Title: Gear Lust - Autumn Edition
Post by: El_Mayonnaise on September 24, 2010, 03:35:58 PM
Thought I'd get this one started up as we haven't had a good chat about nifty gadgets and wonderous instruments for a while.

I'm really getting back into my drumming now after buying a new HHX china and Gav Harrison's rhythmic illusions book. Really would love a new snare from the Black Panther range by Mapex. Hopefully this beauty:

Its an all rounder really as thats kind of me in a nutshell. It's relatively cheap but still expensive for my current financial situation.

Hey ho, student loan, due next week and gone the week after

I've got my eye on Windows 7, an M-Box Mini and Pro Tools for essentials, but I'm also drooling over this (//http://www.dv247.com/assets/products/48677_l.jpg)...

I'm still dreaming of a Fantom, but I'll probably have to set my sights on a Juno G or D for consideration next year.

GAS as it's known in these parts.

I've got my eye on a new 5 string bass. Very reasonably priced. Plays lovely and has got the tone I'm after.

I would dearly love to go all boutique, but it would be wasted on me. I'd have to practice a LOT just to become crap.

I'm waiting for the next big workstation..... Whoever releases it!!!!
I'd love a new Korg though (as I'm used to the work procedures on them). But I'd love to know what Kurzweil have up their sleeve as I'm a big admirer of the PC3.  ;)
I'm moving towards more vintage sounds these days (not so synthy) so I'd like a Clavia Nord Electro 3 (or similar) as I know they sound lovely for organ and vintage keys. Ideally I'd like to get hold of a Nord Electro 2 Rack.. cheaper and just play it through my current keyboards.
Still so many choices.... Will it ever end!!!!!!
If I had the money I'd spend a fortune on keys galore.......

ooops,
went to the National Drum Fair yesterday and ended up with a nice 10"x5.5" Mapex snare. My 'EIMA' tomless kit is nearing completion!!!!!!

Not far off - I think mine is the pre-MPX range so pretty much identical, only paid £35 s/h for it, which is really what prompted the purchase!!!
Needs reheading as it still has the original 'UX' by remo heads, so a nice hazy Ambassador (you spoil us  ;) ) reso although not yet decided on a batter!!!!

I would like a 13" 3.5" snare (brass ofcourse). I will keep on dreaming.

Before I can be allowed any more gear this year, we have to find the money to master and replicate the CD...

Last night, I ordered Windows 7 (finally!) and a new hard drive for my laptop. I'm just about to order an MBox 2 Mini that comes with Pro Tools 8 LE. Only took me three years to work up the balls to buy it!

Hopefully, I will be kicking sonic arse sometime next week.  :D

I'd love to go down the laptop route... But I have a worry factor that it'll get dropped or something and that'll be it!!!!
Recent gear lust is as follows (this will change for sure)

Kurzweil PC3
Nord Electro 3
Roland Fantom G6

Don't want much do I? :D

Don't worry, I'll just mount it on a small wooden frame with a lawn mower engine and wheels attached.

No... Seriously! We run a small hotel and do saturday night entertainment in our function room- What would be better than driving in on an organ whilst playing it? :D

lol!

Though to be honest I think his management just get the sweetwater catalogue every month and order one of each off the 'New' page, while at the same time he gets a small truck arrive from Korg and Roland every month with complementary versions of all their new toys on the understanding he youtubes enthusiastically about them all at least once :)

Bought a pair of Sabiann HHX Groove hi hats and what fantastic hi hats they are. After trying them in the shop I wasn't sold entirely so I looked them up on my phone to get an idea and there were plenty of glowing opinions but also very high prices, (£240 lowest) these were going for £160 which I knocked down to £150 as they were a bit mucky

So I thought to myself well maybe I could buy them, sell them on at a profit as pre-owned ones are hard to come by (and for good reason as I found out)

After playing them with the rest of my cymbal entourage I discovered their true nature. Crisp, dark (but not too dark) and a relatively heavy feel to them. I'd recommend them if you're looking for some new hats.

As a result theres now a pair of Sabian XS20 hats soon to be on the pre-owned market if anyone has interest  ;)

I splurged out on Battery 3 as it was eighty quid off at my local music shop. Result :D

I have my eye constantly on the V Synth GT, which I wish I could afford. Also considering upgrading my still brand new interface with something a little more advanced.

But right now, I've got to find more work. And there isn't any.

I've finally got Pro Tools up and running (I had a few problems getting it to play ball). I'd just like to say RAWK! The first thing I did was run a grand piano through a drawbar organ's rotary to get that Floydy Echoes sound. Love it.  :D

Oh and Gav, I am jealous of your fine looking organ. ...Nope, nothing wrong sounding about that...

Ive finally taken the plunge and bought myself a Roland JC120, mid 80's version with the metal switches. Always wanted one and time marches on as they say, so it was rude not to make the purchase. Goes nicely with the Tokai Gold Top i got off one of the paramedics at work.

I quite fancy one of the new re issue Genista's that premier have brought out. I really do regret selling my original early 90's Leicester made one. Best sounding kit Ihad including a Gretsch and the Starclassic that I've got at the moment
While I'm on the subject of regrets, I never should've sold my vintage early 70's 15" Paiste formula 602 hi hats for £30 either, or my Fender Rhodes

Mmmmmmmm, love the orange sparkle Genista.
Would have one but, I fear it might take over from my Silver Sparkle original Genista - my favourite kit I've ever owned.
