C8.2 will be Frost*s ONLY gig of 2013. So if you wanna hear exclusive new stuff and the classics like The Dividing Line, Black Light Machine and Milliontown in 2013 then Celebr8.2 will be the ONLY place to catch them live this year.

Weekend and Day Tickets (£70/£45) from The Merch Desk //http://tiny.cc/celebr8tix

Frost*

The brainchild of top pop producer and Ivor Novello award winner, Jem Godfrey, Frost* are one of the worlds premier Prog outfits. Staggering musicianship from Godfrey and his cohorts John Mitchell, Craig Blundell and Nathan King coupled with outstanding songs make any appearance by Frost* a must-see event, and with their back history with the House Of Progression, Celebr8.2 is undoubtedly their spiritual home.

From the brilliant Milliontown (almost singly responsible for kick starting the resurgence of prog in the UK) to the amazing The Dividing Line via the dense Experiments In Mass Appeal, Frost* and Godfrey have been responsible for at least 3 (and counting) "New-Prog" classics that will be spoken of in hushed awe for years to come.

Now in the studio crafting their most ambitious project yet, expect plenty of musical fireworks (and a few jokes) from Frost* who are special guests at Celebr8.2 on Saturday.

Announcements / Dead Nobodies CRS Awards Special
April 01, 2013, 09:14:39 PM

Here's your chance to hear James H and I cocking about and getting drunk at the CRS Awards a short while ago.

With field recorder in hand and some beers on board, we ventured into the bright lights and glitz of the awards only to find there Godsticks, Magenta, Rob Reed, Andy Tillison, Jon "Twang" Patrick, Bob Harris and Steve Hackett !!

Even better, they all agreed to talk to us !

They probably won't do again !

Nevertheless, this was one of the best CRS Awards Events and we've tried to get a flavour of the event with this here webcast, laced with some tracks from the winners.

Apologies for the sound quality on the recordings, this was caused by total incompetence with a mic on my part but it WAS very noisy and my poor little field recorder got a bit overwhelmed at times, esp with Mr Hackett. I've done the best I can with the recordings, but some of them are a little ropey.

Hopefully it won't spoil your enjoyment too much !

Congrats to all the winners and many thanks to James for co-hosting. Most of all, thanks to Miles Bartaby and the rest of the CRS for allowing us to infiltrate their event.

See you very soon for the NEW Dead Nobodies...

Bert and James xx

Ahoy there !!

This month we're taking a look at the new Steve Hackett album, Genesis Revisited II. It's attracted lots and lots of attention and is worth a serious look. In the quest, I'm joined by James "Gigging Forever" Hendry who had the good fortune, or just blind luck, to get an invite to the launch party for the album. So, we get all the gossip from the event, plus our considered, fair and entirely balanced views on the album. Errrmm....

But that's not all... in a shorter show than usual (production problems, should you ask...) we've also covered a few of the traditional bases for which Dead Nobodies is renowned the world over. This month we have new music from Threshold, Neil Morse, Steve Wilson, Saga, Rival Sons, Galahad plus of course a wealth of the Genesis Revisited Stuff, plus some oldies but goodies in the shape of Amplifier, Roger Waters and the Jupiter Society.

Download details from here http://www.deadnobodies.net/?p=126

But wait ! Even THAT'S not all !! As we're now formally on the glide path to Xmas, may I draw your attention to the Dead Nobodies XmasX poll – a proven, scientifically accurate way of discovering the 10 greatest prog rock tracks of all time. Without any doubt, this is definitive; and I will accept no argument otherwise  All you need to do is submit your vote for your fave Top 3 tracks OF ALL TIME and not only will you be part of probably the greatest experiment in polling history but you could well win one of three, sorry two,  massive prizes on offer to 2 lucky voters namely:-

1st Prize – A weekend ticket to Celebr8.2
2nd Prize – £25 voucher to spend on your heart's desire at The Merch Desk

Get voting now at  http://www.deadnobodies.net/?page_id=124 and the tell your friends to vote !! Once all the votes are in, we'll build a show to be broadcast sometime between Xmas and New Year. It'll be fun... we may even do it LIVE !!!

OK, that's it for now. As there was so much stuff left over from this show, we may do another one in a couple of weeks.

Till then

Bert

Pip Pip !

I've been thoroughly inspired by the Olympics in this Green and Pleasant Land. So inspired in fact, that I stopped doing what I was doing and completely remodeled this show to at least include some of the stuff we heard at the fantastic opening Ceremony !!

So, mixed in with a mix of old and new, classic prog and rock are some tracks directly inspired by the aforementioned and there's a special Olympic sequence right at the end that I hope will stir some memories for you.

Alongside that we have some new things by Saga, Rush, Syd Arthur, The Treatment, Von Hertzen Brothers, District97, Big Big Train, Panic Room as well as the first appearance on this show of North Atlantic Oscillation and the brilliant Public Service Broadcasting.

All this excitement is tinged with great sadness as a giant of hard rock, Jon Lord, passed away as I was putting this show together. So I've also included a sequence of tracks in his memory. RIP Jon.

Anyway, stream or download this podcast from http://www.deadnobodies.net/?p=112

Or go to http://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/dead ... d438034600 and download from there.

See you next time, when I hope our very own, James Hendry will deign to visit us with a full and frank round-up of Celebr8. Anyone remember that ? I mean, since then, the Queen has jumped out of a helicopter !!

It's a wrap !!!

Here is the newest and tastiest and fishiest Dead Nobodies yet. Sourced from prime North Atlantic Prog and Rock (definitely from sustainable stocks), no I don't know what I'm going on about either. There's probably a clue, in the podcast, somewhere.

Anyway, here it is, this month featuring Steven Wilson, The Cult, The Third Ending, InFictions, Astra, The Aristocrats, Nerve Toy Trio, The Fierce and The Dead and much more. Also joining from the monstrous deep come the Krakens of Rock or if you prefer, Van Halen, Yes, BOC, IQ and.... STEELY DAN !!!

Also included is this months giggery reportage courtesy of James Gigging Forever Hendry. Didn't he do well ?

Thanks to our sponsor, Mr B Elzebub for his guest appearance...

See you next time, assuming that my head is still on the right way round and my studio is not covered in green vomit.

Don't forget, get your tickets for Celebr8 !!

How'do ?

Gigs, we love 'em, and this month, we meet someone whose whole life (seemingly) is spent going to them. What better person to take us through a personal and thorough review of some of the choicest, juiciest gigs from 2011 than the King Gig Goer himself, James Hendry AKA gig blogger Gigging Forever.

Join James and I as we wind through the hazy, music filled backwaters of 2011?s gigs, taking in the CRS BoTY awards, strolling past MattFest and Summers End, winding down the back alleys of Opeth and Steven Wilson and finishing off in the little wooded glade that was the Frost* AGM.

And to accompany us on our retrospective, we have some excellent music, mostly culled from live offerings, including Caravan, Mostly Autumn, Rush, Pineapple Thief and much more. Even the theme music from Knight Rider appears in there somewhere !!

All Hail the Hoff !!

Wotcha, as we say in Norfolk !

So here's the first Dead Nobodies of 2012. It's a ramshackle collection of top tunes that have been loitering around my listening for some weeks and months, so I thought, what with it being the New Year and all and how there's not THAT much going on as yet, that I'd put them together and make a show out of them ! Topper, eh ?

Many of the artists that you're about to hear (in an MP3 download or stream from http://www.deadnobodies.net, or from iTunes http://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/dead ... d438034600 which includes the MP3 version and the spiffing ENHANCED version, with artwork, chapters and links) are first timers on Dead Nobodies, but let's hope they don't have to wait too long to revisit.

Featured for the first time are:-

Syd Arthur
Konchordat
Mr So & So
Lunatic Soul
Joe Bonamassa
Van Halen (how they must have been waiting for this opportunity   :D  )
Fastway
Paul Cusick
Warmrain
DeeExpus
Touchstone

Bankers include:-

Joe Satriani
Amplifier
Rush
Colosseum II

There may be some other things too !

On a sad note, during production of this podcast, I heard that Andrew MacNaughton, photographer to the legendary Rush died in LA whilst on assignment for the band. This podcast is dedicated to him. RIP Andrew.

I'll be back early next month for a review of 2011 gigs and a very special show at the end of Feb.

Till then, rock on and remember, you never know what's round the corner so carpe diem, my friends :-)

Hello and Happy Christmas !!

Yes, it's the Dead Nobodies Big Banana Xmas Edition, named after a refrain in the glorious Black Light Machine by the awesome Frost*.

By spectacular coincidence, Frost* main-man, keyboard genius and, more importantly, Top Biscuiteer Jem Godfrey comes out to play this month.

Blend that with some stunning freshly boiled Prog and Rock, serve with a garnish of talky nonsense and you have a feast fit for any Xmas Lunch.

And, like all proper Xmas editions, this one is longer (cont Two Ronnies Xmas Special).

As always take your pick from an MP3 download or stream from //http://www.deadnobodies.net , or mosey on over to iTunes for a subscription free of all charge.

MP4 enhanced version for owners of iThings available in next couple of days.

Please go over to Facebook to visit Dead Nobodies //https://www.facebook.com/pages/Dead-Nobodies/129496980456727 and press that "like" button !!

If I don't see you before, have a great Xmas and New Year !  ;D

Rock, Rock the Power Of Rock

Playlist to follow !! Jem appears roughly once an hour, but I know you wouldn't want to fast forward and miss all that other great stuff now would you ?  ;)

I went to see Pure Reason Revolution on Saturday night and they were blinding. It's such a shame that they are splitting. the quality of their stuff is plain for all to see.

if you can get down to Heaven on Wednesday night, it';s their very very last gig and you won't see a better band all year. I'm supposed to be seeing Carl Palmer on Wednesday, but am extremely tempted to ditch that and go and see PRR one last time.

I'll maybe see you there

Announcements / Prog Personality Of The Year 2010
December 04, 2010, 12:51:35 PM
Greetings

As a bit of fun last year, I instigated the inaugural "Prog Personality Of the Year" award, to recognise in a non-financial and indeed, non-ceremonial way, the person(ality) whom, above all, graced this thing we call "Prog" .

And I feel like doing it again !

Last year the imperious Twang, of this parish, won the popular vote, and well deserved it was too.

Vote for who you like, whether that be artist, promoter, label head, forum member, merchandise "technician" or pod-cast DJ. I'll gather the votes and announce the winner on 1st January 2011 (hangover notwithstanding)

You can use the voting form at the right hand side of my website //http://gable-end.blogspot.com/ , or PM me or just reply to this thread on the forum. All votes carry the same weight, so in the best British tradition, it's a first past the post system (none of that liberal dalliance with AV here  ;) )

Ithangu !
