I'm sure we all know what Pocket Sun and Toys are about by now, but what about the other songs? Namely DDD for me, I'm intrigued!
I believe Welcome To Nowhere has been covered, but I can't remember the details.
Can anyone fill in the blanks? Ta. :)
Dear Dead Days to me is a continuation of the 'Experiments in Mass Appeal' thing; sort of a question of whether we were better off in days gone by when people weren't subject to such massive pressure from businessmen conducting 'experiments in mass appeal'.
'Some child
Profiled
Beguiled
Defiled
Reviled'
I had always thought Dear Dead Days was about a little girl that was kidnapped by some creeper and mentally scarred/traumatized by the ordeal.
What about Pocket Sun and Welcome to Nowhere?
Pocket Sun is about a dude with a time machine. Welcome To Nowhere is the Experiments thing again where Jem is on about people getting sucked into the internet and being mentally wiped by it...
'Caught in the process
Of mass separation
Victims of progress
And mute isolation'
...everybody thinks they're connected by the internet but in fact you're seperating yourself from human contact, sat in 'mute isolation'. If you let yourself go too far into it you become a victim of the experiments as you allow yourself to be run over by the constant marketing ploy the internet has become.
All my opinion obviously :)
best I log off then

yeah....in a minute.... ;)

That'd be Natascha Kampusch (//http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natascha_Kampusch).

That's a real good notion...
I mean, even if that's not quite on the dot, that's still a mind blowing interpretation.
.... I spend WAY too much time on the internet
They're all mainly about sex.
or cheese.
Apart from Pocket Sun which is about sex AND cheese.

Isn't everything?

You're being far too modest........There's time travel too. :D

Amazing...and to think I had yet to find a combination of the two which didn't result in immediate removal from the marital area!
Quote from: "Jem"Apart from Pocket Sun which is about sex AND cheese.
Well I assumed a 'pocket sun' was another term for someones willy. And you can play 'pocket pool' with your 'pocket sun'.
And the cheese thing well.... this guy's willy hasn't been cleaned for some time. And now he has a terrible condition.
Very sad song if you dig deep.
Hmm....let's not go any further down that route.
I often wondered what the real meaning of No Brie No You was....
eww.
Quote from: "Jem"Apart from Pocket Sun which is about sex AND cheese.
"...I've always rather fancied a big hunk of Swiss..."
Double eww. Or double ewe- twice the creamy cheesiness.
I'm going now...
I should have known I wouldn't get a sensible answer!
gives a whole new meaning to "Cheese Sandwich"
And my current avatar...
What avatar?

Oh dear, that ain't right! I can see it, but is anyone else having this problem? :?:
No, your avater pic of you with the 2 lap dancers is visible, if slightly questionable....
Seriously, mouse-in-cheese coming through 5x5 in MS IE here. I might have it cached though.
Doesn't work in Safari or Firefox for me... :(
I used to see it, but not today.
I see a square box with the red cross top left usually indicative of the image file being missing/wrongly addressed/buggered. Sorry I mean corrupted.
strange, it's in the download folder, too:

I've just changed my avatar, so that's the end of the cheese buisness for me! :)
Only in this forum can we go from talking deep about the meaning of songs to the broken-ness of ones avatar without someone being ban-hammered.

Bugger that.
Did you know that.....
Supplementary eye fields (SEF) are areas on the dorsal-medial surface of frontal lobe of the primate brain that are involved in planning and control of saccadic eye movements. The SEF was first characterized by John Schlag and colleagues as an area where low intensity electrical stimulation can evoke saccades, similar to the more lateral frontal eye fields[1]. More recently it was shown that SEF stimulation produces coordinated gaze movements of both the eyes and head [2]. Neural recordings in the SEF show signals related to both vision and saccades somewhat like the frontal eye fields and superior colliculus, but currently most investigators think that the SEF has a special role in high level aspects of saccade control, like complex spatial transformations[3], learned transformations [4], and executive cognitive functions[5].
Well, that may well be true, but Iyers are a subset of South Indian Brahmins and generally speak Tamil. Such weddings are known as kalyaanam or thirumanam in Tamil.
Iyer weddings, like other Hindu weddings, typically last about 2-3 days where it once used to last 7 days. While the main bulk of organizing a wedding falls on the bride's family's shoulders, the groom's side plays a significant role in the organization as well. It is a joyous celebration consisting of age-old traditions and religious rites admixed with lots of singing, dancing and fun-filled processions that typify the vibrant Indian culture.
Quite. But did you know the scone is a small British quickbread of Scottish origin? Scones are especially popular in the United Kingdom, but are eaten in many other countries. They are usually made of wheat, barley or oatmeal, with baking powder as a leavening agent. The scone is a basic component of the cream tea or Devonshire tea.
The pronunciation of the word across the United Kingdom varies. According to one academic study, nearly two thirds of the British population and 99% of the Scottish population pronounce it as /sk?n/, to rhyme with "con" and "John." The rest pronounce it /sk??n/, to rhyme with "cone" and "Joan." British dictionaries usually show the "con" form as the preferred pronunciation, while recognizing that the "cone" form also exists.
However, The Church of St Nicholas in Great Yarmouth, which is the largest parish church in England by floor surface area, was founded in by Herbert de Losinga, the first bishop of Norwich, and consecrated in 1119. It is cruciform, with a central tower, which perhaps preserves a part of the original structure, but by successive alterations the form of the church has been completely changed. The width of the nave is 26 ft, and the total length of the church is 236 ft. The church is the parish church of Great Yarmouth.
My Dad used to run a pub in Great Yarmouth, The White Lion. It was completely destroyed by the enemy in both World Wars and rebuilt to the exact original specifications each time. He then moved to a pub in Hoxne, Norwich called The Swan. A few years ago he had a mild heart attack, which put an end to the pub buisness for him. He know works on a free range chicken farm and has never been more relaxed.
I like cake. 8-)

And to think how different the iron age would have been if the turkeys had made the roundhouses.
It was the cavaliers that did that.
As a result of their affection for Oliver Twist.
I think Jackie Chan got a kick out of roundhouses....

Delighted ( ;D ) to hear all the songs are partly French.
Wow - you really are going through some seriously old threads, Manoncharles! Last post on this one was exactly 7 years ago. :o Still, nice to see some of these again. I'd almost forgotten how regularly the Boss used to post on here. He still pops in once in a while - hopefully more so in the run up to Falling Satellites being released... 8)
I almost answered "lmao" to a post in an even older thread but stopped myself.
Laughing at very old jokes.
I found a message saying "oh god, Jem hasn't posted here or on Twitter in FOUR DAYS, is he still alive ?", and yep sadly it reminds us he seems to be less regularly online now :-\

Nothing a little more fiber in his diet wouldn't cure.
I, too, cannot help but smile seeing so many older threads brought back to life. There was a time I was on this forum more than any other site (yes, even the Book of Faces). A better group of people I could not hope to find anywhere else. Tis wondreful. Thank you, Manon. :)
Pretty sure your people is still as awesome as a few years ago!
Let's make the forum great aga- god I sound like a half-bald politician hah.
