Unlikely that anyone on here hasn't already got it and watched it a million times but the performance recorded live at Rockfield Studios and made available on DVD is currently streaming live at The Quiet Room.

https://www.quietroom.tv/concert/

You can create a free account over there and view a number of great performances by clever people. 😀

Frost* / Vote for Blunders in drummer's poll
November 01, 2016, 10:16:25 PM
Quote from: Blunders on FacebookI've just got off stage in Taipei and discovered that I'm in the 5 nominations for the prestigious 2017 Modern Drummer Magazine readers poll in the Prog category. I've watched this poll littered with my heroes for so many years, I never thought I'd ever break into the progressive category, just be featured in it is such a huge honour for little things or me, I genuinely have no words

If you find the time and you'd like to vote for me, share, etc etc you can here..thank you SO much for your incredible support xx

Ho, ho, ho,

Well there's no new advent calendar and not much else happening (besides the excellent efforts of various Frost*ies; Tigermoth, Son of Fogey, etc. of course) so I figured I'd spread a little bit of Godfreyness as a pressie for you guys.

I had been holding this back because Steve Lawson was going to take the video and mix it with his infinitely superior audio mix from the sound desk but Steve has been super busy and also suffering some insanely frustrating computer woes in recent days, so I figured what the heck.

It's only a snippet and the standard disclaimer about monograinyshakeycam(TM) applies, but here it is :-

Enjoy!  :)

Multi-instrumentalist Rob Reed has always been a self-confessed Mike Oldfield fan-boy - he heard Tubular Bells when he was 7 and it was a pivotal moment in determining his future. There have always been touches of Oldfield's style in Rob's work; sometimes subtle like that particular guitar sound...and sometimes bleedin' obvious like using the opening riff of Tubular Bells (with permission, of course) as the basis for a whole song.

At the beginning of last year, Rob decided the time was right to take up the challenge of seeing if he could do what Mr. Oldfield did all those years ago...and he has; producing a solo-album with the same kind of feel, same kind of sound and thee same kind of power to immerse the listener in a two-part journey through a continually changing musical landscape that is both mesmerising and astonishing.

Rob hired a lorry-load of real percussion instruments and played everything you hear himself. The only exceptions being some gorgeous vocal work from Angharad Brinn and Synergy Vocals, who both previously contributed to Kompendium: Beneath The Waves, and some Bodhrán played by co-producer Tom Newman.

Rob wanted to be sure that he wasn't just copying or mimicking Oldfield's original masterpiece...and what better way than to run it past the guys who actually worked on the original...if anyone was in a position to judge the merit of Sanctuary as a worthy tribute rather than "just a pastiche" it was them, right?  Tom Newman was one of the co-producers of the original Tubular Bells and really enjoyed working with Rob on "Sanctuary" as did the other co-producer of Tubular Bells; Simon Heyworth, who Rob enlisted to Master the Sanctuary album. Simon said that when he heard it, he "closed his eyes and was back in the Manor Studios in 1973".

So, that's enough blather from me (clearly a self-confessed fanboy of Mr. Reed!) and all that is left is to urge you good people to check it out (as they say) and make up your own minds. It won't be to everyone's taste, but I know there are people on here who will like it and I urge everyone to give it a listen and look out for some interesting video clips in the coming weeks.
