Title: 3 more shows
Post by: Nellie on September 27, 2016, 01:47:37 PM
There are lot more Frost*ies than we thought wanting to see the band live sooooooooooo, we've booked 3 more gigs in the UK in April 2017.
Tickets are on sale now at  The Merch Desk  (http://themerchdesk.com/shop/index.php?route=product/category&path=155) and soon from the venues (except Edinburgh).
Don't let me down by not going after making so many complaints  ::)

Dates are
6th April - The Brook, Southampton because there wasn't one down south last time.
8th April - The Liquid Room, Edinburgh because there wasn't enough room last time.
9th April - The CItadel, St Helens because it's in between Manchester and Dublin.

That could be too close to Easter for me, any more he says rather hopefully?

Beware if you go to Sardinia

MV St Helen is a vehicle and passenger ferry previously operated by Wightlink on their route from Portsmouth to Fishbourne on the Isle of Wight. Due to her age, she has been sold and was removed from service on 26 March 2015. She now operates in Sardinia (Italy) with the name Anna Mur operated by Delcomar, together with her sister ship, the former MV St Catherine.

MV St Helen was built by Robb Caledon Shipbuilders, the last ship to be launched from their Leith Shipyard. She entered service with Sealink on 28 November 1983 shortly after her sister MV St Catherine, She was positioned on the Portsmouth to Fishbourne route, the route she has taken through her life and was the largest Isle of Wight ferry until 1990 when MV St Faith was introduced weighing 26 tonnes more. This was a record held until 2001 when MV St Clare entered service.

Deck collapse incident
The St Helen generated unwelcome headlines late on Friday 18 July 2014 at the Fishbourne ferry terminal, when a section of the mezzanine car deck with nine cars on board, dropped about six feet (1.80m) on to the deck below, while being lowered. Three passengers and a crew member were injured and transferred to St Mary's Hospital in Newport. The Marine Accident Investigation Branch is carrying out an investigation.

The ship had just arrived on the 21:30 sailing from Portsmouth with 181 passengers and 11 crew on board. The next sailing, operated by MV St Clare, had to wait 90 minutes before being able to dock.

After the incident the St Helen was taken out of service for several weeks whilst Wightlink engineers removed the mezzanine deck leaving her sister ships St Clare, St Cecilia, and St Faith to run the service.

Sale to Delcomar
It was reported in March 2015 that Delcomar, a company based in Sardinia, has purchased St Helen for an undisclosed sum. She will join her sister vessel MV St Catherine (now GB Conte) which was sold to the same company in July 2010. St Helen has been renamed Anna Mur. The ship was moored at Hythe, but has now sailed to Sardinia. A Wight class vessel, MV Wight Sun has been transferred to the Portsmouth-Fishbourne route to replace St Helen.

Thanks for that Mikey. The St Helen was always the ship I hoped not to get as she was such a dump, and I noticed she was no longer in evidence, although I hadn't realised why. That 'honour' has now passed to St Faith. St Clare is by far the nicest of the ships on that route and it's a shame Wightlink haven't seen fit to buy more the same.

I need to look into this. I have nudged the RosFest and Cruise people but with no luck yet. A proper tour would be a bit of a nightmare with visas and logistics but I know the boys would love to tour the States.

Good news - one of my best friends announced today that he and his long term partner are finally getting hitched next year and to keep the day free!  :)
Bad news - out of 365 days in 2017, they've chosen Saturday 8 April.  :o :(
(DS wonders if he can sneak out in the evening and belt down the road to Edinburgh without anyone noticing...) ::)

Well, as I'm sadly not going to be able to make it (see above), you can have my ticket, if that closes the deal!  8)

Title: Re: 3 more shows
Post by: Pedro on March 19, 2017, 01:01:43 AM
On the subject of shoddy journalism, the Prog review of the re-released TPE is a poor effort; suggesting that, by naming Nick D'Virgilio as "the star of that particular gig", Jem was underselling Craig, Nathan and JM.
Clearly the reviewer didn't bother to check who was actually on stage for the recording of that CD.  >:(

Yes, I saw that and had similar thoughts. Interesting prospect of a version of Frost* with both Blunders and NDV on drums though!
On a more positive note, I enjoyed Nellie's review of the CTTE. Hope you've sobered out now Nellie!  8)

I don't know St Helens at all so I had a quick nip there this morning.
There's a big car park outside The Forge (I think) which will hopefully be open otherwise it's tricky to park. Opposite there's a pub called the Nelson. The usual suspects (Macdonald etc) are also there.

Here you go, sports fans: some clips from the Edinburgh gig on Saturday, including sections of "Hyperventilate" and "The Other Me", as well as the whole of "Heartstrings", "Hypoventilate", and the always very emotional "Last Day":

https://youtu.be/-36pbi662qY (https://youtu.be/-36pbi662qY)

Fantastic stuff, as ever, with every on fine form and having fun with it, and the audience of (I'm guessing) around 150 throughly enjoying it and appreciative. Seems criminal to me that Frost* don't pull in bigger crowds, though I may be a little biased.

They had to clear the venue quickly afterwards as it was due to re-open for an oldies night, with kids listening to music of the 70's and 80's (as opposed to the gig, which was oldsters listening to music of the 21st century), and the band were quickly off down the road towards an overnight stop at Selkirk before heading to St Helens yesterday. So only the chance for a brief chat with them and Nellie, but some of the regular Frost*ie crowd, including VitP on his birthday (as celebrated in the video), retired to a nearby hostelry.

This too shall pass, but until then ...  8)

I went back upstairs for the finale, where I was for most of the gig, because I wanted a more balanced sound than I had at Prog Dreams in Zoetermeer a few weeks ago, when I was right down the front. I then got talking to a couple of folk after the gig, and only came down briefly to say hello to the band as they were rapidly packing up, before decamping to the bar next door with a few other Frost*ies.

Edinburgh was the worst attended, mainly because the venue didn't advertise it at all. They won't play there again, especially after the way the band and fans were treated.
The tourette was brilliant and thanks to all those who came out to play. I think the boys played the best they've ever done and we all had a proper laugh.

Anyone who missed out on t-shirts will be happy to know that I've just ordered a load more in olive green and dark heather (whatever that is) which will be on sale this week for dispatch whenever they arrive. I'm also going to order some black and white baseball type long sleeve shirts with the Falling Satellites design on the front.
Friend me up on the book of faces or twitter for updates.

I had visions of some kind of muted purple, but no, it seems dark heather is another name for grey  :-\

I did notice you standing next to me recording the last parts of Sunlight... but didn't see you afterwards to say hi...

Anyway, thanks for the video!

All things considered I enjoyed the Edinburgh gig and thought the lads were on fine form.
Loved hearing some Kino and It Bites tracks in the Twats set.
Sad to hear that the venue didn't pull their weight.
Big thanks to the band for taking the time to come and play, it's always really appreciated.
Shout out to Nellie and the rest of the crew, you guys do a great job!

Thoroughly enjoyed the gigs, all were brilliant in their own way.

Thanks to Mikey & Owen for meeting up for some drinks beforehand in St Helens (sorry my 7 brothers couldn't make it) :)

Well, I hope you mean they won't be playing The Liquid Room again, rather than Edinburgh more generally: I always enjoy visiting my old city, and if Frost* are there too, all the better.

It did seem pretty sparse: I estimated about 100 or maybe 150 only. Obviously, that's not great from a financial perspective at all, but I did at least think the crowd responded positively and loudly to the excellent performance by the band. So in that sense, it was very good, but of course, not good if not financially viable.

When you say "the way the band and fans were treated", was that just in reference to being kicked out pretty rapidly afterwards, to clear the venue for the subsequent dance night? Or were there other issues?

Anyway, again, you can be sure that everyone in the room enjoyed the gig, and so I'm very grateful for you and the band making the trip.

Such a dilemma. Do I dignify this comment with a response or do I ignore it completely?

Well, I would love to have been there to boost the numbers but sadly I couldn't go this time (even although I did buy a ticket).  I'm quite annoyed that this was the 1st ever Frost* Scottish gig I've missed (admittedly this is only their 3rd time north of the border! ;)).  Glad everyone seemed to enjoy it.  Do come back to Scotland at some point please!  8)

Lifesigns played Bannermans Bar in Edinburgh last year and the staff at the venue were great. The only drawback is that it would be a bit small for a normal size Frost* crowd, with an advertised capacity of 175.

And similarly, I still think King Tut's would be a great venue if Frost* ever fancy going to Glasgow again. (You'll recall Lifesigns also played a great gig there last year, Julie! 8))

It's a great venue for the audience but they ripped the band off so they won't be playing there again.  >:(

Managed to get to Edinburgh...shame it was 3 days too late for the gig though. This will be the first tour I've missed and not happy at all  >:(
Pleased everyone had a spiffng time though - a pity about the audience numbers in Edinburgh but I bet you lot made up for it in sheer enthusiasm!

I'm sure that if you had listened very carefully, there will have been echoes emanating from Auld Reekie's ancient cobbled streets and wynds, both of the band giving it laldy, and of the small, but perfectly-formed audience's sonorous appreciation  8)

It'll be quite some time before they play any gigs but I think it will be Glasgow for the Scotland slot next time. I love Edinburgh but the venue let us down.
The disco load out was hampered by the staff putting equipment in the way of the stage instead of helping the band and crew make a hasty exit. The security staff were very rude and threatened violence to some of my friends who didn't leave quickly enough.
The sound system, however, was amazing and the band and fans were fab!

A shame the band and fans were treated so shabily... still, plenty of time to think of a suitable venue in Glasgow!

Hmm, not good at all. Of course, will happily travel to Glasgow as well, although if the band aren't planning gigs in the near future, it could be that I'll need a visa to get into the country at that point  8)

And since I'll likely be going on tour myself to Edinburgh later in the year (nudge nudge wink wink), I'll make sure that The Liquid Room is definitely not the venue  ;)

So come Brexit, will they deport you (actually a vaguely serious question)? Or make you work at Jodrell Bank (possibly not so serious)? Or present the Sky at Night and bring it back to BBC1 where it belongs?
