It looks like the vinyl version come with the CD as well. Nellie, if you're around, do you know if that's literally the same CD (including case) as if you were to buy the CD version on its own, or is it actually just part of the vinyl packaging. Does that make any sense?
Basically, if I buy the vinyl package plus the CD only copy, will I end up with 2 jewel case (or digipack or whatever it ends up coming in) CDs?

Jem played keys for Joe on a couple of gigs on the Black Holes and Wormhole Wizards tour in 2010 when Mike Keneally was double booked and had to go play for Steve Vai in the Netherlands. It's not my day job, although that does involve photography but mainly video filming and editing. I guess I class myself as semi professional in that it's not my main job but I do make some money at it.
In the last year I've started getting work from TeamRock shooting gigs for Prog and Classic Rock. Last night for example I was shooting Blaze Bayley for a Classic Rock feature due to appear on their website in a few weeks. The current issue of Prog magazine ( I think it's still the current issue at least) as my photos of Nightwish from their Wembley Arena gig in December.
Tomorrow night I'm shooting Amorphis (who opened for Nightwish at Wembley) at a slightly smaller venue in Bristol for bristol247.com.

I had stopped following Frost (never stopped listening though!) since I graduated college and started working about 5 years ago. Apparently I missed quite a bit! I was youtubing Jethro Tull, and I was reminded of a Frost Report where John Mitchell sang and played Thick as a Brick, much to the chagrin of Jem. So I looked up Frost reports and I saw Heartstrings on the youtube channel. I was so confused until I saw the new album coming out in just a month! Needless to say I pre-ordered it on the spot. It sounds great, and I loved going through all the Frost reports and seeing Jem pour so much passion and detail into his work. Reminded me of why I loved this band in the first place.
Oh and apparently I missed a big thing about an ELP cover? It sounded neat. Is it one of the few things that's been lost on the internet now? anyway, nice to be back!

Curiously, the InsideOut shop is advertising an exclusive Mediabook edition of the album with 2 bonus tracks.
Nells, is this truly exclusive to them or is this the version we're getting via the Merch Fairy ??
Update: Nells believes this is the same as the digipack available via the Merch Desk - just them trying to be all posh and continental (my words not hers, I hasten to add)

Even more interesting is that IOM's version of the vinyl is white and limited to 100. The question is.... to buy or not to buy as I've already ordered the Merch Desk clear vinyl set. Works out at £28.
The collector in me wants it but the rationalist in me baulks at almost £30 for vinyl.

It depends where you ordered from, but if you ordered from The Merch Desk the word on the street yesterday was that Nellie was waiting for the signed postcards before sending the pre-orders. I get the impression (from Facebook) that JM was the last person to sign them and finished them off last night, so perhaps a lot of them will get sent today 2-day delivery or tomorrow 1-day. I've never had anything arrive later than expected from TMD. I presume you're in France though Manon? That's a
long way. Maybe it'll never arrive ;)

Hmmm, I'm probably a lot closer to Nellie (physically) than some UK-based Frost*ies, and yet because of the intervening bit of shallow water called the North Sea, I probably won't get my copy until next week ... bah humbug.
We'll all cross our fingers for you Manon and hopefully you'll get it ASAP. I suppose you could listen to it on Spotify (or similar) once it has been released while you wait for the physical album to arrive
I'm anticipating that mine might not show up on Friday given that I live in Scotland but we'll just have to wait and see.

Probably worth dropping an email to sales@themerchdesk.com on Tuesday, I'm sure Nellie will do her best to sort one out for you.
I think mine might have been signed towards the end of the batch by each of the guys. I can read Jem's but they all look like there was probably an audible sigh as it was applied; hardly surprising when having to do the same thing over and over...and over.
So we all know it won't go platinum but what kind of sales are likely? Will Jem/Inside Out break even? Are there charts for this sort of thing (obviously there are, but I'm totally ignorant of where to look)
Must say the album isn't nearly as catchy as the previous two are... It will definitely need several going through to appreciate.
But I had really hoped there'd be less loudness war on this album. Clipping is pretty nasty in several places :(

To be honest I found this with EIMA. Initially it wasn't what I expected and I didn't really get into it straight away. Over the following months/years though it became my favourite album (ever ever ever, and ever will be)

I haven't noticed this, but in general I find this sort of thing really doesn't bother me. I would very much suspect that the vinyl master would be a bit lighter on the limiting et al. Jem hinted as much in an interview, and (as I understand it) if you overdo it on vinyl you end up with all sorts of manufacturing/playback issues. So perhaps that will be a more suitable flavour for your ear tongues.
I find it plenty catchy enough, but I don't mind working to learn an album and discover its depths.

I personnally love it a hella lot, especially the end of the album (what a good surprise when Nice Day For It... starts and you year that well known Frostheme :p !). I know my best friend is more skeptical : we both are fans from the prog-metal scene, so it is a bit new for us to listen to something so electro-pop.
But it's so well made :-)
Also about that Spotify thing : indeed, it doesn't pay much. But I've used it because I don't have my CD yet (post office what are you doing ?) so either I don't listen to it at all until I have it, or I use streaming, which doesn't change anything for my heroes : I proudly paid my CD and my shirt (well tbh, two CDs and two shirts but that's me being a fangirl).
Indeed, it's neither Milliontown or EIMA... and it will require a few listens to get my head fully around, but all the best albums do :)
Still, even after just one listed, I love Closer To The Sun, and, on the bonus front, British Wintertime is gorgeous.

Nor mine - I ordered last week, so may explain. Anyways, my plan is to get that sorted at the Cambridge gig ;)
Frost*'s sound and writing has always been primarily Jem, but being a lover of drumming, I'd hate to imagine how MTown, EIMA & TDL would have sounded without TBE's contributions. If there's a noticeable shift this time out, it may be credited in part to JM's collaborations, but people must remember that this is the first full studio outing with Nath and Blunders on board. You can't switch personnel without it affecting the output.
This post wasn't really necessary, but a wino challenged me to use 'out,' 'outing,' and 'output' in an internet post, and I cheerily accepted.
I'm not expecting a postcard with mine. Did they go on holiday? ;)
Great music is never "catchy" first time.. great music grows slowly imo :-)
regarding clipping I hear a wall of sound on heartstrings but there is no actual clipping or intersample peaks.
It is mastered loud (about -8db rms) but that's average for Big Bands, I prefer around -11db
Anyway I am totally loving this album, to me it screams out progressive music, I love the fact that Jem is unafraid to surf the genre spanning waves :-)
this time last year we were unsure if there would be another frost album, thank bleedin god there is :-)

No need to worry I don't think. My order(s) are showing as processed and I received one yesterday and the other today.

There might not be IS clips there, but it can definitely be heard compressors are working too hard and as result things are being squashed much more than necessary (at moments I got throwbacks on those horribly destroyed crash cymbals on EIMA - although not THAT bad).
I'd love to hear a HD mix (96k/24-bit) that doesn't squash things to oblivion but lets dynamics breathe some...
I sympathise with the mastering engineer, I have exactly the same issue when there is lots going on in the mix, it's very hard to master at such a high rms without some thrashing.
I learn to get past that and just enjoy the amazing music a Jem creates,

I was eavesdropping Jem on twitter, and he said to one person that its very possible that there may be a version of the Vinyl master on bandcamp in the future. He didn't say when though, I got the impression it was likely to be quite a while away. Many sads... After waiting patiently for my preorder it arrived today with 1 cd and Tshirt package instead of the 2 that were ordered (and paid for). Since I am seeing the friend I ordered with tomorrow, I kinda need to pass his on, leaving me Frost***less for longer. I realise "stuff happens", but it is disappointing none the less. :(
