Other Bands / Re: Mike Portnoy quits Dream Theater

I'm a little over the whole thing now. I was listening to Transatlantic's Whirlwind last night, and damn, it was incredible, more of that would be brilliant. I'm seeing Avenged later this year too, so I'll be glad to see him then too, but I'm still gutted, obviously. Last thing I did last night befofre sleeping was listening to Portnoy's drum solo on Once In A Livetime, and I really do think that after hearing that, they're gonna struggle with replacing him in DT.

I saw this, and was actually devastated. My hero's left my favourite band, you could say I'm rather gutted.

...that amongst the mass of hard rock and metal in my iTunes library, I've decided to embrace my inner prog and put some of my dad's Genesis records on there. It would be a shame if prog wasn't getting a fair shout in my library really. =P

I'd also like to announce that I've just properly gotten my teeth into The Dividing Line (the track), and oh my God, some sections in this song are just fantastic, I'd love this played live at Bilston. And the same goes for Here Is The News, the drumming towards the end is absolutely wonderful. ^_^

Good one! I was wondering if there was one available, this'll be replacing Roadrunner from the Looney Tunes...for now. =P

I'm not a fan on growling myself either. The only band that I really liked that used it used it very sparingly, and that was Delain with Silhouette of a Dancer most notably. That album only has a couple of places where it is used, and it's normally backing, where I believe growling belongs.

In response to AudienceFrightener, I did try Epica for a brief period, but found that a bit too growly for my liking. That was a while ago though, I may try them out again soon.

Well, I'll be honest, I didn't see the crazy Godfrey messing around with those general noises coming! XD

And 'Thunderfrog' (!?) has just lifted my mood by like, so much! XD

Also, whilst I'm here, I'd also like to announce that after owning EIMA for 3 months or so and watching the DVD countless times, I only discovered this afternoon that the DVD comes with instrumental versions of the songs. After scouring the internet for B-sides and other Frost* niceties, I do feel like a bit of a pleb for ignoring that rather good set of them for quite this long. XD

Listened to the Wonderland instrumental by chance?

Conveniently it's the only one I didn't listen to, because I always tend to listen to full albums and had to go before the last track, so therefore missed Wonderland. I'll listen now though, to make up for it, although there's no secret song on the instrumental version. *sniff* And no You/I either, which seemed a bit odd, but I'm sure there's reasoning for that.

Quote from: "Phrog"The track that plays on the DVD menu is part of an unused song from the EIMA sessions called 1976. Finishing and releasing it to us is on Jem's 'To do' list!  :) I'll have a look round for any threads about it.

Ah, I remember the mentioning of that track last night on one of the Frost* Reports. Well, I'm now very much interested in that, ta muchly. ^_^

I was just extracting the instrumental MP3s from the EIMA bonus DVD when I noticed that the backing track for that DVD was pretty fantastic in itself. Is that a rare track of some description which may be lying around somewhere on the internet?

Gigs / Re: What's your bestest Frost* gig?
August 31, 2010, 05:55:19 PM
I've only seen them at the Leeds gig with Dream Theater. I don't remember much of it (I never seem to remember much from gigs, but I guess I'd travelled up with my dad from the Midlands early in the morning, pithered about doing not very much at his workplace and was therefore pretty tired before the gig began, so that didn't help), only that Dear Dead Days sounded incredible, and I think Welcome To Nowhere was pretty excellent as well. I forget sound quality being terrible, but I'm sure the Christmas gig in Bilston'll make up for that, and I'll actually know all the songs this time. =P

I assume this is the place where people say hi?

Similarly to Monument, I heard of Frost * through Dream Theater (at the Leeds gig, which I must say was simply brilliant, and well, what do you expect with that lineup =P) and Milliontown just took me by total surprise, and as much as I adore Dream Theater, I spent the days leading up to that gig back then as much wanting to see songs from that masterpiece live. I'd not heard Experiments till afterwards, which was a bit gutting really considering that the first time I heard the keyboards in Dear Dead Days at the gig, I was blown away completely, and it's very much one of my very favouritest albums. I only managed to pick up a physical copy (bloody England and its lack of good music shops -_-) with the DVD a few months ago, but you should've seen my face when I found it. XD And now, after ordering tickets for the Robin 2 gig in December (with my prog-loving dad and a new converted friend of mine =P) and skulking around this forum for ages and checking the site way too often for updates, I thought I'd best join.

So hi. ^_^
