Quote from: "Philadelphia"gurn      Verb. 1. To make involuntary and unusual facial expressions from imbibing excessive quantities of drugs such as amphetamine or MDMA; it is often apparent at raves or techno/house clubs. Originally gurning was a ruralised competitive freakshow at which toothless old men pulled ugly faces.
2. To complain. See 'girn'.

So say this page!

Having lived in relatively rural areas for much of my childhood, I was most definitely thinking of the toothless old men definition, not the modern drug-driven one (how did that get to be first in that list, I wonder?). The Mac OS X built-in dictionary gets it right by saying:

Quoteverb [intrans.] chiefly Brit. Make a grotesque face.

Still, if there were any drugs involved in the playing of that drum solo (and opening of that can of tuna), we deserve to know, donchathink?  :D

And now we know.  Thanks guys.

To think...all this time I thought gurning was that stupid Canadian ice scraping sport.
