I could go on and on about quintuplets, production geekery, how easy the maze on the cover is to solve, and something about the goddamn commies and other completely unrelated filler nonsense like you're supposed to do in reviews to fill space and make your sentences so long they're practically unreadable to the average reader because it feels like talking without being able to breathe until you're blue in the face due to the lack of oxygen to the brain which can be damaging even after a few seconds and while we're at it screw punctuation as well you're completely lost at this point anyway, but I'll say this:

It's the best one yet.

I'm fine with waiting for it and have no doubt I will love it. I'm going to have to stay away from these threads for a while, though, as I'm catching spoilers.

Been a while, had to log in to say that this album is, and I need to use strong words here, fucking awesome!
I had a moment in 'Nice Day For It...' when I thought about renaming it to "In your face, Tony!" Dang that's an awesome piece of fluffy glory!
So many good ones. All of them, in fact. I think 'Nice Day', The Raging Against Wotsit' and 'Numbers' are big glow stick party DJ favourites for me at the moment.

Worth the wait. In gold.

How many of us are ready every six months to put their hobby out for public consumption?

Especially when it's also your job. There's only so much creativity, and it might be good to get out of the studio when you're having some time off.

Musicians are the most conservative and closed minded people you can find. For us keyboardists it's the whole analogue vs digital debate that never dies. Just like it is with orchestral libraries vs real musicians.
In both cases it's quite easy to see that one is expensive and one isn't, yet both sound remarkably good today. Not identical, but in many cases very close. It's a financial question for 99% of all musicians. Try hiring just a string quartet and see how much money that'll cost you, then think about a full symphony orchestra. Plus the recording space, sound engineer, all needs to be hired and paid for. There's a reason why only big budget Hollywood can do that.
The rest of us will have to stick to the libraries, and maybe hire a solo cellist or violinist if we can afford that. A pro musician doesn't work for free.

But, if you can't hear what's real and what's not, does it matter? It certainly didn't sound worse before you knew the truth, did it? Some people get hung up in silly nonsense like that. Oh well, their problem. I just enjoy the song, even if it was recorded on a fax machine and a bucket of pee.

In my opinion it's not the sound, it's all about the performance. That's where you hear the difference. To prove the point, I just did a couple of drum sessions for my electronic project. I have around 80Gb of drum samples in Superior Drummer, much better than the recordings we did quality wise. But I wanted a real performance by a drummer, and that's what makes all the difference. It's all in the cymbal and hi-hat nuances, and the way a human plays music vs a sequencer. I'm pretty darn good at programming drums after years of doing it, but still there's the human touch.

It's a great contrast to the electronic drums I've made.

A lot of people will assume that it's all programmed anyway.

If Nellie were here I'm sure she'd have something to say about that.

And this is why I have two memory sticks (in case one fails) with my project files in my pocket, plus a copy on my computer and one in the cloud. If I'm shot and my house burns down, the show can still go on.

And yes, old battery powered memory solutions are the nightmare. You have to use sysex to make anything resembling a backup, if it even has that option. It's like teaching a strawberry to speak Klingon. Expecting the D-50 to get alzheimers any second, no idea if the previous owner ever changed the battery.

Damn shame that.

I'm doing the Bandcamp thing. I expect like 3 buyers, so it makes no sense spending money on CD's that you'd rip and play on your computer anyway.

Yeah yeah.. delays as expected.
I have 3,5 songs totally done, mix and all, the rest are pretty close. Need to arrange a vocal session with a lovely singer, finish writing the bits I don't have yet, tweak synths, get Cap'n Godfrey's bit in there and mix it.
On top of that there's other musical tasks to do, like learning lots and lots of songs for different gigs, plus some key recordings for the proper band, as soon as other members are done with their world tours.. literally.

Some time before summer if I'm optimistic. It'll be done as soon as possible, whenever I have a moment to work on it.

Bugger, now I officially can't make it. 

It's theoretically possible, but the fact that I'm playing gigs the day before and after makes it too risky. A plane can be delayed, and then I ruin the job for everyone. Also, with my new lovely dental problems I have to spend that money on repairing myself.

Oh well, have fun and have a beer for me.

As much as I'd enjoy taking part in this glorious event I'm afraid I can't dig up the necessary funds for it. We'll see, there's still a little bit of time. Unlikely though.
