Title: Some of my recordings
Post by: EvilDragon on July 28, 2009, 10:37:05 AM
These are some of my home recordings. I'm doing a soundtrack for a visual novel, (//http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visual_novel) and I have exactly... ONE song finished :D

That's the main menu music. It was intended to be recorded with acoustic guitars instead of piano, alas I don't have the proper equipment to do it. Still misses one lead melody in the middle, that will be added soon.

This one needs a couple of things to be done: recording a live fretless bass, a live violin, my sister will sing the lyrics to it, and I need to add some choir here and there, and a rudimentary drum beat or something. Then it's done.

A short piece I made in half an hour in FLS8. Needs continuation.

Short piano piece that might also be used for the above mentioned soundtrack. I used Pianoteq 3, if anyone wants to know.

So, comments welcome!

The first track could be a darn fine intro of something bigger. At the end(after 1 bar silence) i would(but that is what i hear in it) make it go loose, with real drums and guitars and basses.
The second track is ok on it's own, but could also be an intro of a larger piece.
Nice work!!

Very atmospheric stuff.

I particularly liked the lilting 3/4 time of the second one.

The last one in interesting and really sounds like it wants to GO SOMEWHERE.  I was disappointed that it ended, and was just waiting for it to move into something BIG.

Let's bump this up a bit :)

This one needs some more mixing to be done. Perhaps slight rearrangements as well.

That's nice. Quite quirky with the unexpected 'swing' the kick drum rhythm.
I could picture that playing as the credits rolled on a Bladerunner-style movie. :)

First off, Way To rock And represent the Mighty Kurzweil!!  Well Maybe not Rock it but Caress and capture her inner Beauty! These are Fabulous, absolutely Gorgeous Pieces of the bigger picture or plot if you will!! Your making me want to post some of my orchestral stuff now!   Listening to all 4 back to back, I hear a common theme of sorts! Your composition style is very engaging, meaning its making me want more and almost provoking me to foreshadow! Your writing level is such that It really needs to be completed. Meaning i Want to hear the Story, Your Journey. This, to me is a tasting, a teaser of things to come!  Most Excellent My Friend!!  :)

Agree, Very driven Sequence, Needs to be Kept in that Direction. IMO.  Prog. #51 "2 live kits 2 MW" with Mod wheel Up. A Straight 4/4 almost Bonham type beat, Sans the Swing! Just an Idea!  ;)  Awesome Change of Mood and attitude though!! :)

Sorry, but I have to disappoint you, no Kurzweil here on any of these tracks. I am dreaming of having one, though! These are all softsynths. And the last track (Distortions of Mind) is made of only 4 instances of OLGA and Waldorf Attack for drums :) That's it, just 5 tracks!

Hehe, well I did use EastWest orchestra (Gold XP) on these, Kurzweil might be great but it can't still compare to multi-GB sample libraries. It's still a great gigging board!

I would want it solely for the flexibility of VAST.

Is this the thread? I guess I am ressurecting it :)

Very nice stuff here. While they were all good I wasn't as keen on the first one as I was on the rest, particularly the solo piano piece. While I can imagine them going in a prog ensemble direction, they seem to have a very "soundtracky" vibe to them, specifically a computer game score feel. This is not a criticism, by the way. This is very much the direction I have been taking my own work of late (I'm in the early stages of scoring a featiure film at the moment; yay East West). Got anything more recent, or updates on these pieces? Or any leftovers for the FFCS 2 track?

Cheers,
/R

Nope, no updates in so much time since I didn't have time to compose at all (my job of scripting Kontakt libraries takes up a lot of my time), I only recorded the solo piano piece again, using Pianoteq 4 this time and a bit different tempo:

I think it's better now. :)

Oh wait, there IS one track that I didn't post. I wasn't satisfied with the mix. I still have to fix it, haha. All I have used here are 4 instances of OLGA VSTi and Waldorf Attack for drums. I have to fix timing on some notes, it's all played by hand. :)

Anyways, it's a bit Jarreish at parts. Enjoy. :)

All great, except the drums :) Yeah, I hear Jarre, and maybe some Vangelis, and possibly some Floyd (the cool atmospheric high pitched sweeps). I think it might have been this song that someone suggested Bonham drums (without the swing). That sounds right on to me. Or the drums in "Shine on you Crazy Diamond". Oh, and I'd play a wailing guitar solo over it, but then again I think everything sounds better with wailing guitar solos all over it :)

But yes, cool piece. You got a band?

Nope, am solo for quite some time now.

Thanks for your interest, though. It is very much appreciated!
