Title: Forum t-shirts
Post by: Nellie on July 19, 2010, 02:18:03 PM
Hi Chaps and chapesses,
If we're going to do the forum shirts, let's make some decisions about what appears on them.
I'm under the impression that it would be a long sleeved shirt with a Frost* logo on the front and "Your world is now officially a better place! Trust me!" with the forum member name (yes I said member Rog  ).

Yes, no, maybe?

Is this forum poll-capable? A series of polls could be helpful in determining shirt type, which logo, logo size and location, phrase to be used, font, et cetera.

Yes  :D

Sounds great Nellie.

Though would prefer short sleave ... but I'm not rocking the boat.

Am happy with either option (or could we do a run of both - Rest of the World Summer and British Summer in one not so foul swoop??)

I'd take one, but would prefer short sleeved too.

Sounds good to me, but didn't we also discuss doing something a little more forum specific on the front as well?

The idea I had and bounced around here was to take to the avatars of the top (say) 100 or 200 forum users and make them into the shape of a Frost*erisk, for example.

Shouldn't be too much effort for a serious graphics bod; I'd even volunteer to have a go, although I'm off to the Farnborough Air Show for a couple of days work, so it couldn't be immediately ...

Spot on Nellie. Short sleeved for preference.

But a layered long sleeve, like the ones produced for the spocks tour would be fine too.

I'm sure Vitamin P can do a splendid Frost*erix for the front.
Title: Re: Forum t-shirts
Post by: Tricky on July 19, 2010, 07:43:59 PM
I'm good for one as well.
With a slight preference for short sleeved, but not that bothered.

The waveform design + sprayed name could make a nicely forum-specific version

(Did anyone ever admit to working out what the waveform was?) :?:

Gosh, so much to try to reply to....
Jem already confirmed that the waveform is "Frost*".
I've yet to find a long sleeved gig shirt that has long enough arms for me so short would be preferable for me too.
I'd still hope that Vitamin P will propose a design for the shirt. Nothing against the above suggestion but Paul hasn't mis-fired yet. :)
To make it more explicitly 'forum', would the words "Certified Frost*ie" somewhere help?
Needless to say, I'd quite like one! ;)

I've had another e-chat with Vitamin P today and he's going to come up with something dazzling, of course.
The short sleeved shirt won't be a problem, it's early days in the design so nothing has been ordered yet.

It's so nice to know that so many people would like one. We'll do a proper count up nearer the time if all goes to plan.
We could just get a "We Love Jem" t- shirt done.

I guess there will be some polls in order:
- long or short
- front design
- back design (will there be one?)
- colour
Title: Re: Forum t-shirts

Not wishing to pre-empt Mr P (and the new supplier of course), but the IB shirts were available in a choice of colours - so you could pick which one you wanted.

Having thought about it a bit, I'd quite like the front design to be something unique to these shirts - a version of the frosterisk only worn by frequenters of this manor. Not sure how practical or reasonable that is but what do others think???
Title: Re: Forum t-shirts

Or, in your case (and mine), the Fullers (//http://www.fullers.co.uk/) figure.
It's late to be throwing suggestions into the pot, and it sounds like VitP has plans of his own, but I rather love Phrogs's proposal for Blunders' drums

I'm fine with short sleeves as long as the shirt isn't black. The last 3 prog shirts that came my way were black, and it's not a color I prefer to wear in the hellfire summer of Florida.

That looks splendid. Black&White is a little plain but it is distinctive
I really like the inclusion of "Certified Frost*ie" (although the Frost*erisk in it needs be elevated a bit). I think that term makes the forum connection and alludes to the madness. :)
To follow the convention, the forum name would go on the back(?).
Hope VitaminP is watching...there's good ideas there.

Oh, Ok.
I didn't put it because IMO with the "certified frost*ie" is enough to undersatnd that we are "official members" of the forum. But, again, is only my opinion. If everyone prefer their names on the back, is Ok. ;)
Title: Re: Forum t-shirts
Post by: Pedro on July 21, 2010, 10:07:22 PM
There's no conflict.
"Certified Frost*ie" on the front (actually I wonder if the whole thing -words and Frost*erisk could be made to look like a rubber stamp?).
Forum-user-name across the shoulders.
The main idea being that people can spot others they know and say something like "oh heck, there's Pedro, quick...out the back door!" ;o)
Title: Re: Forum t-shirts
Post by: Mouse on July 21, 2010, 11:03:06 PM

As is your idea about the rubber stamp style, Pedro. A top banana of an idea!
Title: Re: Forum t-shirts
Post by: gr8gonzo on July 21, 2010, 11:42:03 PM
I'm not loving having "Certified Frost*ie" on the shirt tbh, but I must admit the rubber stamp idea would be pretty cool. I'm also not wild about another giant Frost*erisk design. I'd prefer something more specialer. That makes me sound kinda crabby about it. I'm really not.  :D

however, wouldn't getting "custom" names across the back cost loads extra?
Title: Re: Forum t-shirts
Post by: Pedro on July 22, 2010, 06:57:48 AM
Not really. I'll have to check but I think the It Bites ones were only about £20-25.
Of course, that was with the old shirt printers so a similar arrangement might not be possible.
Still say we should wait for the mighty Vitamin P to say something on the matter....patience....

I have 2 views on this

1) Pragmatist Me - Jem is the Artist, Vit P is his chosen design guy. Lets let them do their job and see what turns up.

2) I Want It Now Me - Get the f'in' thing in the shop NOW so I can spend more pennies I haven't got.

Trouble is if I get one Sue will want one and Sami, well of course she'll have no money so we'll have to "lend" her a few quid. Another expensive necessity. :D

At the risk of insulting everyone (again  ;) ) who's contributed to this, I must say that I haven't yet seen anything design-wise that really rocks my boat.

Thus far, they all seem a bit derivative, and while familiarity's good 'n' all that, I can't help thinking there's something truly sensational and yet utterly Frost*ie lurking out there still, just waiting to pounce on our wallets ...
Title: Re: Forum t-shirts

Post by: DannySoisSage on July 23, 2010, 01:24:46 PM
I'm also not sure about the quote...happy to accept it if everybody else wants it but I would rather have something a bit funny lol.

I quite like the thought of having something quite different. Perhaps a small frosterisk on the left breast like a football shirt, your forum name above either your forum number or perhaps a Frost* secret number or something. Maybe with an utterance across the middle of the front or something?

I guess I'm a little bored of the standard tshirt, big logo thing lol.
Title: Re: Forum t-shirts
Post by: gr8gonzo on July 23, 2010, 02:01:10 PM
Yes, pleeease no giant Frost*erisk. Also, now having seen the waveform on a couple of mock ups, I'm thinking it doesn't work so well. I love the small logo left breast idea. Something that's closer to "crew member" than "concert goer." There are tons of great Jem quotes on the old forum. The Frost* Reports are a gold mine for that kind of stuff.
Title: Re: Forum t-shirts

Title: Re: Forum t-shirts
Post by: DannySoisSage on July 27, 2010, 10:58:51 PM
I dunno, certified Frostie* is still a bit cheesy

Perhaps we could have three sets, one says 'Mellotron', one says 'Trouser' and one says 'Blackpool' then its the forum's responsibility to ensure one of each t-shirt is at each Frost* event?   lol

'You're a lion!'

'A train wreck right in front of my house'

I'd love something we could all wear with something very random on it, so people will come up to us and say 'what on earth does that mean?' and so we can refer them to this wonderful band and its pleasantrys
Title: Re: Forum t-shirts

This is why waiting for Vitamin P is the best solution. ;)
As soon as there is "the shirt" - people will either buy it or not.
Making these suggestions is a) fun, b) filling the time and c) interesting because a usable idea might fall out of it all.
I am certianly not proposing anything as "the answer", just bouncing ideas.  :)

Before anyone groans about the plainness and poor quality of this shirt, please know it is not my idea of a final design, but rather just playing around with the software and trying out some ideas and various elements. What you can't see is that the telephone booth has had a bit of a makeover - the word "TELEPHONE" was replaced by the web site waveform and the windows replaced with assorted Frost* cover and insert art. I couldn't make it look good as a large object on the shirt, so I shrank it down. I just thought I'd put it up to give you something else to look at.

I don't know enough about the process but for It Bites, Vit P was able to offer the forum name in just about *any* font...which suggests that the printing process is software-based....in which case, the answer on having different slogans is possibly "yes"....but I wouldn't take that as gospel.

I'd be happy to have the same as my fellow Frost*ies but that's just me....unless the slogan is "If it says 'Pedro' above, insert knife here X".

Well, europeans are crazy about soccer/football, so we could take whatever design is being worked on and throw it on the front of those, with the forum handle and a number on the back.
Title: Re: Forum t-shirts
Post by: Pedro on August 13, 2010, 08:49:51 PM
Well, I'll confess to being crazy.... ;)
...but not so much about football.

Having said that, if someone wants to get it organised and it looks good and doesn't cost the earth, I'd be up for it.
Title: Re: Forum t-shirts
Post by: Nick The Newbie on August 13, 2010, 10:12:51 PM
I looked into another forum I was on that got those kinds of jerseys, and I think it was over $30 US per person. Probably too rich for our blood here.

That being said, I'm willing to go with whatever t-shirt design is whipped up here. Having our names on the back would be a cool way to identify eachother at concerts if we ever manage to be at one together.
Title: Re: Forum t-shirts
Post by: Pedro on August 13, 2010, 11:26:32 PM
Actually $30 is only £20 which is not too much at all, dependent on quality, durability, etc.
We'd just need a shirt mule to get them into the country. ;)

The forum T-Shirts will have the Frost*ie's forum name on the back. I have one of the It Bites forum shirts and it does work at gigs and in pubs...and it's amusing to watch the funny approach vectors as people manoeuvre to check the back of someone's shirt as they approach.  :)
Title: Re: Forum t-shirts

Having worn several band shirts over the past week or so and been increasingly frustrated by them, I definitely want to find a good quality shirt. Not these thick, itchy, lint magnets that bands buy because they're cheap. I'd pay $30, $50, even $60 for a quality customized shirt. It's worth it to me to invest in something that will be comfortable and will last. Eddie Bauer tees are very soft, yet durable. Who makes a good shirt in the UK?
Title: Re: Forum t-shirts
Post by: Pedro on August 14, 2010, 12:50:19 AM
I too have had very few band shirts that have lasted well.
For some reason some T-shirts seem to be made to get wider and shorter when washed.
If they turned the fabric through ninety degrees before stitching then the washing process would make them get narrower and longer...this would be ideal because my body has a built-in ability to expand garments!  :)

Quote from: "Nellie"A quick update for you which is not very helpful. I am still in contact with VitP about the forum shirts. He is going to do them but has been incredibly busy and now has the Defence merch and December gigs designs to organise, too. I'm also hoping that they will be available for Summers End but don't quote me on that! :?

Watch this space then  :)

Indeed, I was marvelling at the genius of his design putting a small Frost*erisk on the upper back of a shirt, so it can be spotted in the middle of a large crowd...

There has obviously been a slight delay in the production process
I will resume discussions and report back as and when I have information.

I suspect that there will be a shirt for the Autumn tour and I do have a whole bunch of DVD t-shirts which will be going in the shop as soon as I can get the artwork picture. :D

I may well bring said headgear but not the jacket. I nearly died at Defence Of The Realm i got that hot. There again once the bands on the headgear can come off too as it really kills the sound. might keep the goggles on though!
