Title: KIAMA Andy Edwards' return to prog!
Post by: TBE on October 20, 2015, 03:54:07 PM
Hi Frosties

I would like to announce my latest project which is a new prog band called KIAMA.

The band also features Rob Reed (Magenta) Dylan Thompson (The Reasoning) and Luke Machin (Maschine)

www.kiamaband.com (http://www.kiamaband.com)

If you head over to our website you can have a listen to 'Cold Black Heart' which is featured on our promo video which was mixed by Jem.
There will be more Kiama/Frost* related news too so keep watching.

Any questions?

Saw this yesterday, sounds great.  Always liked Dylan's voice so glad to see him fronting a band

So let me get this right.
Reed, Thompson, Machin & Edwards = Kiama?

Is that a palindrome?

Possibly an acronym? Reed, Thompson, Edwards & Machin (Read The Effing Manual)

Whatever it's rather good and I'd like to hear lots more.

Is it just me or is that 2 guys trying to look cool, 1 guy who does look cool and a Welshman who knows he doesn't need to bother? 8)

I like what I've heard so far, might well dip into this

They must not like each other very much. Who stands that far apart for a group photo? Was this an arranged marriage? ;)

Signed up - liking what's 'out' so far and although I'm not familiar with a couple of the guys in the band, TBE & Rob Reed are a good enough endorsement of the potential for this project.

Plus it'll maybe stop me thinking about that 'other' new album for a while

Thanks for all the positive comments, if you pop over to the facebook page you can keep in touch with us there and if you join the club you are going to get far more than just the album, you get access to a special members section which features exclusive content.
The full version of 'Cold Black Heart' is up there at the moment.

Here is some stuff about KIAMA in case your interested.

Luke plays guitar for The Tangent and has a great band called Maschine; if you are Frost fans (and you all are!) then check em out. He is also IMO the best guitarist on the UK Prog scene at the moment.
Dylan was in The Reasoning never really sung in that band. When Rob and I put the band together we wanted a front man and Dylan really fits the bill as you will see when the video footage starts coming out.

The album was recorded at Real World and we recorded it all at the same time, face to face without the use of clicks. It was written over about a year and we have been mixing for about a year, it's been a huge project and we made a enough for a double album.
The material ranges from out and out rockers to a few ten minute epics with influences from Zep, Pink Floyd, Jeff Buckley, Radiohead as well as the usual Prog influences

And just for reference, we actually have two Welshmen in the band!!!

Really excited about this project, I can confess to having heard all of it and it is all top notch stuff with a great balance of light and shade. I commend it to the house.

True story: I heard the track that Jem mixed ("Cold Black Heart") quite some time ago...so when I got to see the video for it fairly recently and didn't recognise the title, my first thought was "ooh, I know this, what a great cover version"(!)...which is testament (I think) to the quality of the writing, a new song sticking in the memory as a "classic" like that.

Here is taster of another KIAMA song, which has just been posted up on the Prog Mag website. Check out Luke's insane guitar solo on this one...

4 posted so far, really quite different. In another age the last one could have been a hit in the States. With some proggy bits thrown in. So far, so excellent. I'm hoping to get a proper 5.1 system in the new year. Has Mr Reed done one of them clever mixes of his?
EDIT forget it, someone has anyway. Good!

Rob has done 5.1 mix, yes. £15 will get you the 3-disc set...or add a fiver for a T-shirt as well...bargain! :)

Same here!  :) Unfortunately I'm just heading out so won't be able to have a listen until tomorrow.
I see Mr G gets a credits for additional production on one track and is listed in the thanks from Rob Reed.  8)

The Kiama boys have announced a live show to showcase the album, and it's about 10 minutes from my house !!!!

Saturday 27th Feb @ Base Studios in Stourbridge, tickets and details from www.kiamaband.com (http://www.kiamaband.com)

The live room there is good, although not massive - have played several times there myself. The studio is also right next door to the Green Duck Brewery and bar, a nice real ale place, and is only 5-10 minutes walk from Stourbridge Junction train station.

Kiama will be supporting Frost* at Wath and Bilston in June.
If you don't have a ticket, I suggest you grab one very soon as all dates are selling fast and the venues are not very big.

OK, somewhat late review, but I was among the modest crowd (due to the size of the venue) for the live debut of Kiama last Saturday.
Despite a technical hitch to Rob's keyboard rig meaning a slight on the fly rearrangement of the set list, the band were awesome - TBE was he usual rock solid self, Dylan & Luke (previously unknown to me) were a revelation, Rob Reed was his usual calm, composed seld (even during the taforementioned technical problems) and the the live incarnation was topped up by Dan Nelson of Godsticks(also seen with Magenta on their last couple of tours) and Tesni Jones on backing vocals (a really great voice).

Bodes well for the future, really looking forward to other gigs, including the Frost* supports.

Hehe! Sounds like it was a brilliant gig. :) I'm enjoying the album muchly. I think my favourite track has to be Muzzled. Fantastic dark vibe. :)

Late replying to this.
Sorry to have missed you at the gig Mooncat.
Funny little place, sound wasn't the best, but when you have 6 foot stacks of PA speakers on the floor with people standing in front of them and every time the bands try to get the sound guy's attention he has to be nudged to tell him to look at the stage instead of nattering with his mate...well you get the picture...

Mooncat covered it all really, once the gremlins were banished they hit their stride and it really came together. I've been listening to the album for quite some time now so I know the material inside out and they really did it justice. Luke Machin is just so insanely talented.

Damn, didn't realise you were there Pedders - would've been nice to catch up after such a while.
As you may have gathered, the studio itself is a local recording and rehearsal facility, with the 'venue' room usually used for local band showcases and also green screen filming for webcasts and the like - so not particularly well set up for a regular gig with a lot of people.
Really looking forward to seeing the band again, especially at the excellent Robin 2

Was present at the inaugural Panic Room weekend in Bilston this weekend   :D :D :D

A couple of Frost* t-shirts in attendance and a load of great bands, including a storming set last night by KIAMA.
Apparently this was only their second public performance, and fourth time playing together as a band and it was amazing. Particular highlight for me was 'Muzzled', which Dylan informed us was his attempt at writing something deliberately Pink Floyd-y.
A much improved sound and setting than the Stourbridge gig, but then that's really a given at the Robin. A great reaction for the crowd during the set and an impressive queue at their merch table directly afterwards as well, and a lot of people trying to get stuff signed and congratulate them.

So get down to the Frost* gigs early to see what all the fuss is about.

I would envisage working backwards-ish Frost* would be on from about 9-9.30 with the Kiama on at about 8-ish for 45 minutes ???
A lot will depend on stage turnaround - i.e. if there are two drum kits to accommodate, plus keyboard rigs, guitar amps and the like it'll take longer than a shared kit set up
