Was recently given an mp3 of his latest release 'U-Catastrophe' where he and his father, Phil, just play this absolutely brilliant track. It's even titled 'The Big Bang'. He even asked Steve Hackett to play a solo on the track 'Fast Forward The Future'.

So, in true rebellic style, I downloaded the rest of the album to see if it was any good. His music is entirely different than what his father makes, though you can hear a bit of that back in two tracks. His voice is quite gruffy but he can do the quiet songs too without pulling a 'Bryan Adams'.

I think ordering that album was absolutely worth it!

check his Myspace, tracks like 'The Big Bang', 'Disappearing' and 'Fast Forward The Future' really stand out.

That's so weird.  I just had that CD in my hand yesterday, but didn't buy it.  Thought I'd listen to some samples first.  I remember hearing some of his earlier stuff and thinking there was potential there, but he's certainly his own Collins.  I'll check that out sometime soon.

In true promotion mode today so...

I rarely do this, but some music deserves to be mentioned a bit more :)

I listened to "The Big Bang" and a couple others on his MySpace.  "TBB" would be nice music for a CSI Miami chase scene.

Aye :) it's a brilliant piece of music. My brother the other day commented that he was glad to hear that PC could still play the drums!

I bought that record on a whim a couple months back, listened to it once during a plane ride from montreal to Los Angeles.   Nothing truly memorable stuck out except maybe that drum thing with Phil.   Maybe I'll dig it out at some point.    Kinda hard for living in that shadow but he really seems to have his head together about it wich is kind of amazing considering the circumstances he grew up in.

Anyone notice that with the beard he's starting to look more and more like his dad in 70s?   Down to the retreating hairline  ;)   Sorry kid, you inherited some awesome music genes but you have to take the male pattern baldness with it.

Ghost

It's pretty obvious that Simon Collins is a near carbon copy of his dad in the seventies, indeed with the receding hairline and the beard he's sporting.
