Hippo, there appears to a slight problem with the home page. The bulbs are clickable, but the dials themselves aren't, only the edges, like a hollow clickable ring around each one. Took me a while to figure it out.

One presumes that the new logo etc might be revealed via one of the doors ?
And if so, can it be big enough for us to make desktop wallppaper from it, pretty please!

Cap doffed in honour of this fine event - wonder if a tour of the new Cube will be one of the 'gifts'?

Oh silly me, getting all excited and unnecessary now!!! ]

A nice brew to calm me down I think - as you were!

Aww, the media player bit of it seems to have stopped working for me... it works fine but there is no Marsupial for my enjoyment  :(  It worked fine this morning, I've checked flash and quicktime are up to date, but it tells me that additional software is required to play it, just not what that software is! I'm in firefox and on a mac... any ideas?

EDIT: Nevermind, it has returned!

I don't want to miss anything big :(

V curious.
It doesn't use Flash at all, so that's not it.
I could put... I mean, I cold ask the appropriate Frost*-Elf to put a Flash one on as well and just have this one if there's no Flash support. Belt and braces.
Title: Re: Advent Calendar thingy
Post by: RacingHippo on December 02, 2011, 02:48:07 PM
Right.
I am reliably informed *cough* that there is now an alternative player on there, which does the Flash thing.
Give it a whirl....

Post by: Brom on December 05, 2011, 12:49:40 PM
I have to admit that I'm chuffed to bits to see that Limericks from the forum have made their way onto the calender... and kudos to Danny Connel, or whoever has trawled through them to extract some of the best!

When I started the Limerick thread many moons ago I almost didn't as I thought it might go off like a damp squib... how wrong I was, as it's now, if I'm correct, the most viewed and commented thing on here!  :D  :D  :D
Title: Re: Advent Calendar thingy
Post by: Pedro on December 05, 2011, 12:59:37 PM
@Brom: Twas a good move indeed, sir. Danny Connel gets the nod for the mechanics of the calendar, what goes in it is being wrangled by your very own Frost*elves. :)

@Jake: Good man, thanks for your patience. :)

I'm loving the look of the logo already, and today's calendar offering reminded me of one of my favourite Frost* phrases.  :D

Thought I'd come out of lurking to say I'm really digging the calendar, and with time difference between the U.K. and California, I get to enjoy the next day's envelope during work!

If this one forumer could be so bold as to ask Santa Frost for an envelope present, it'd be the video of NDV playing the oboe part of Mtown in Philly.  Was a cool moment (as all of those moments are), but that video seemed to disappear from YT rather quickly...not that Santa necessarily has it, mind you, but if he *did* have it in his possession...

Cheers to all and happy holidays!

Today's calendar has been bought to you by the letter T

If only I could think of a word ending in T....

Looking at it closer it appears there's some form of footnote too as there's a little asterisk after it.... :?:

I was a bit concerned by an assertion made in the "did you know" section on the 17th:

"...and it is not clear whether hangovers directly affect cognogonitive abilitities..."   :?

Did the writer of that have a hangover at the time so that his/her "cognogonitive abilities" were impaired?

After enjoying the obsessive Gear Acquisition Syndrome video in today's envelope, I felt I also needed to know more about the Collyer brothers mentioned in the compulsive hoarding story below. In doing so, I believe I have stumbled onto something on Wikipedia which clearly explains Jem's behaviour in the original video:

QuoteThe Collyer brothers were sons of Herman Livingston Collyer (1857–1923), a Manhattan gynecologist who worked at Bellevue Hospital, and Susie Gage Frost (1856–1929), a former opera singer. Their parents were first cousins.

Ladies, gentlemen; a coincidence? I think not ...  ;)
