Gear Corner / Rig update. :)
July 11, 2012, 09:27:28 AM
I didn't post here for so long, I feel obliged to let all you anoraks know about my rig updates, haha!

You know that I have a PC3K8 from that unpacking thread, right? Well, I got friends for it, too! (NOTE: Right-click then View image to see the full picture!)

Namely:

Yamaha AN1x (what a beauty!)
SM Pro Audio V-Machine (actually I got this way before PC3K8, I use it for running GSi VB3, best Hammond sim ever, and SQ8L for that Ensoniq vibe)
Korg TR-Rack (because a man needs to have Trinity in some form!)
Korg NS5R (because I wanted to keep some of my old Korg X5D sounds with me)
Washburn EA20SDLK electroacoustic (sounds very very nice)

And all that on K&M Spider Pro stand, along with Beyerdynamic DT 880 Pro headphones.

Another new thingie is the electric guitar, I got her real cheap (below $300) NEW... it's really good for the money, I'm very satisfied. It's a Washburn RX50 Black Sunburst:

Now I just gotta get something to amplify it! :)

All in all, I feel like a happy camper for now. Although I already have a plan to fill a monster 24U rack that I've purchased recently. :)

Without further ado, here's some pics!

Man, the box itself takes half of my room!

Please open this side! Indeed, I will, with THIS (Duke Nukem style!):

//http://img408.imageshack.us/i/kurzweilpc3k802.jpg/

Kurzweil takes their packing seriously. Everything is safe and doesn't move anywhere! Hmmm, let's see what's in the little box to the right...

KFP-1 sustain pedal! Thank you, Kurzweil, as I only had one until now! :)

User manual, hard copy! This is great, I'll have something to do while on toilet!  :P

This pic is a bit blurry, excuse me, but the excitement was pretty darn high!

After! I hope I won't knock it over during sleep, but generally I'm a tight sleeper - however, there are still sudden awakenings! Also I need a better stand, but that's gonna have to wait a little while

This is an extremely suspenseful moment! LOADING...

OH F*CK YES!!!

//http://img149.imageshack.us/i/kurzweilpc3k812.jpg/

Everything works! I'm ready to use the hell out of it and deeply examine every corner of this powerhouse synthesizer!  ;)

Thanks for your time!   ;)

19 days left on this offer, read what the guys have to say:

Quote from: "Ben [Camel Audio"]Hi all,

For one month only, we're letting you pay what you want for our new Planet Earth Sound Library, which includes our Alchemy Player plugin. What's more we'll give at least 50% of the money to environmental charity Friends of the Earth. Whether you write electronica, ambient or dance music, Planet Earth is packed full of sounds to inspire you and was created with the same uncompromising attention to detail as all other Camel Audio Sound Libraries.

Regardless of what you can afford, it would be great if you'd grab a copy of Planet Earth. You can even tweak the split between us and Friends of the Earth any way you want.

If you have any comments or questions, don't hesitate to ask by posting on this thread.

Cheers :)
Ben

More info HERE! This is definitely a no brainer! EXCELLENT quality presets and ease of use in one plugin. It does tax your CPU a bit on some patches, but the sound is well worth it! :) I did my share by purchasing this, so should any of you reading this post in need of great quality sounds!

Jem, do you have this one? ;)

Current stats:

Gear Corner / Purrings of an untamed beast...
September 24, 2009, 12:20:13 AM
...alas, a virtual one!

Knob-twiddlers and all those who consider themselves worthy enough, I present thee...

Stillwell Audio OLGA!

Two minutes and sixteen seconds of uncut material, for your ears and enjoyment only! The patch is rather basic and shows off several key features of OLGA: oscillators, filter resonance, the sickest phaser on Earth (most swirlings come from that), the drive circuit (moderately). Beware, you forfeit all safety restrictions by clicking on the link below! EvilDragon will hold no responsibility for any or all eventual eardrum damage that was result of this short demonstration. Enter at your own risk!

Master Jem and others, how do you like it?

P.S.: It really isn't that vicious... much :)

Can't believe stuff like this exists.

IT'S FREE!

Jem, mate, with this one doesn't matter if you're left-handed or whatever ;)

On the cons side, I can't seem to make it do vibrato ;_; (EDIT: just noted that this one was based on the Classic model, which didn't allow vibrato. What a pity.)

Ask Frost* / BLM solo difficulties :/
September 06, 2009, 09:01:25 PM
Hello Frosties, especially those inclined to keyboards!

I'm learning BLM key solo, and am 98% done. I have only one place with issues, and that's of course the fast ascending run before the end of it all :(

Anyone know what Jem exactly played here? I tried to catch it from the Youtube vid, but it's just impossible, his fingers are too fast for my eye (not that I couldn't play it, as I can play the rest of the solo rather well :))! So... anyone with any ideas how should it be done?

Attaching GP4 tab of what I have for now. I have marked the wrong bar. Please help?[attachment=0:17lgl9ks]BLM_SOLO.zip[/attachment:17lgl9ks]

Friends Of Frost* / Some of my recordings
July 28, 2009, 10:37:05 AM
These are some of my home recordings. I'm doing a soundtrack for a visual novel, and I have exactly... ONE song finished :D

http://www.box.net/shared/i6mo31rk8f

That's the main menu music. It was intended to be recorded with acoustic guitars instead of piano, alas I don't have the proper equipment to do it. Still misses one lead melody in the middle, that will be added soon.

http://www.box.net/shared/suk5f676xx

This one needs a couple of things to be done: recording a live fretless bass, a live violin, my sister will sing the lyrics to it, and I need to add some choir here and there, and a rudimentary drum beat or something. Then it's done.

http://www.box.net/shared/2sdoiiakho

A short piece I made in half an hour in FLS8. Needs continuation.

http://www.box.net/shared/hf48aq0neu

Short piano piece that might also be used for the above mentioned soundtrack. I used Pianoteq 3, if anyone wants to know.

So, comments welcome!

Hello mates, I'm a new one here, and I do have some questions for our dear fellow Jem. If anybody else knows to answer, please do :)

1. In BLM first synth solo, you mention how you made the lead sound. I can get to the first two patches, but I don't have KLCA MS-20 yet. Can you tell me if it's a preset sound, or did you tweak it yourself? In any way, can you hint me at how the sound's created, so I can try to mimic it with some other synths I do have (VAZ Modular, for example)?

2. What made you buy the Korg M3, when you're so full of love with your Fantoms? I personally think M3 is a great, great board, and has more lifelike sounds than a Roland. Still, the new Kurzweil PC3 trumps them both. Do you still have the M3? :)

3. Which synth of all you've ever had you like the most?

I'm a keyboard player too, that's why all the questions are keyboard-related :P

Cheers, thanks!
