I read the setlist was as followed:
Hyperventilate
Welcome to Nowhere
Pocket Sun
Dear Dead Days
Black Light Macine
The Other Me
QuoteFrost were marvellous as ever! Not the slickest live band as they don't play often enough, but still pretty tight and played with a lot of energy. Original drummer is playing these two gigs (and he rocks) and their new bassist is good. And Jem is always a good laugh on stage!
Let us know more!

DDD?
Yum yum for tomorrow night ... :D
That looks like a good pre-DT set. Should pick up a fair number of fans from that.
just got back! it was so good. SO VERY AWESOME...
you blew my mind, boys.
aw i cant even explain it
it was like my first gig up near the front and i will never forget it :D
i... should really get some sleep now :)
wow, great night, great venue. enjoyed it all. The dream Theater boys obviously have a great deal of time for Jem and Co, just a shame they couldn't have given a few more feet of stage, poor Nathan must have felt the breeze from Andy's drum sticks and one false move would have had all 3 in a right mess.
The boys got warmed up quickly, they had to! the rest of the set was a great showcase for the band and let's hope a few copies of Milliontown and EIMA will fly off the shelves tomorrow as DT fans have money burning a whole waiting for their next offering.
I was amazed by the divesity of the audience, young and old, all had a ball. We were a bit too near the front, and while we were fine for Frost*, within 3 songs from DT, we were running for the shelter of the bar. The sound was awesome and overwhelming with energy.
The frost* boys had chilled and come down to the bar, so i took the opp for a quick photo and asked Jem and Nathan for a few minutes. We chatted and had photos taken and it mad our evening.....
good luck in Southampton boys, ask for another foot on stage ;-)
What a night - Frost* played a blinder. DDD was fantastic live, if anything it seems to have more flow and energy now. But I reckon the star of the show was, unexpectedly, The Other Me. It's the best version I've heard yet, the 'jam' session at the end really rocked.
All the band were on form,,nice to have seen one of Andys last full Frost* gigs. Dec and JM were as usual stonkingly good. Special mention to the BLM guitar solo which sounded really great. Missed JJ, but Nathan looked like he was having fun. I couldn't hear much of what he was doing as the sound was wafting under the balcony a bit. Oh, and that rascally Godfrey looked like he was having fun (thanks for the man-hug)
Dream Theater were good, but I think I had heard their repertoire of loud/fast/even faster/moody/widdle by 10 minutes in. A mate of mine lent me their entire back catalogue to swot up on and what I heard sounded note perfect, but I wonder where they can go from here. If whatever Frost* becomes over the next album or two progresses as much as difference between Milliontown and EIMA, I think we're all going to be kept very happily surprised with each release. But DT seem locked in a bit of a rut, but it's a rut that seems to keep their fans happy so what the hey... At the very least I would admit they are consummate professionals, and owned the stage totally while they were on, and the musical and technical chops were astounding.
And Nosser - NO!!!! Once you've spun your OASYS a full 360° we've seen the trick. So no need to do it all night then OK? ;) Nifty playing on the Continuum though, and did I detect an iphone in use on stage?
Lovely to meet Racing Hippo (thanks for getting the cd for me mate), Beano and pal, Clan Pedro, Mike EVS and Mouse. Looked for other familiar faces but being up in the Gods I couldn't make anyone out amongst the heaving horde of DT acolytes.
And the CD! Don't want to give anything away but f**k me. Saline is BRILLIANT! :D :D
Back home now, happy and ready for bed.
Nighttzzzzzzzzzzz
cool! keep the reviews coming, mates!
Too shattered to do it justice right now so I'll be back some time tomorrow....
For now....some headlines I'll edit some meat into later....
Bewildered smalltown prog fans faced with a *massive* queue for a gig 30 mins before "doors" time.
All venues in Leeds have sticky floors (it's the law)
Northern Pound exchange rate pushes £5 CDs to £8
DT fans know how to claim territory - Earth's curvature becomes significant over viewing distance
Mrs Pedro too short to see properly (not actually news that one)
RosFest Intro not re-wired for 240 volts (sadly)
DT fans very receptive
Nathan's knees buckle under fast fret work
Jem in John Beck configuration (sans hat) - claims to have "rehearsed sitting down" - you could tell, he sat down really well....
Good set, well delivered despite a couple of tiny sound issues and an uncharacteristic dip in tightness
DT very impressive for this first time viewer - only not knowing the songs made it feel a little over-long.
Portnoy drumsticks very slippery it seems
Petrucci has one guitar for every chord...or so it seems. But, man, does he work hard all through the set!
iPhone for sure. Was that a Zeetar too?
Petrucci and Rudess lie down on stage and out widdle each other - only the balcony can see.
...and then, there were hugs....
'night! :)
Awesome as ever! Hearing their set I wanted them to play on for 2 hours. Much preferred their set to Dream Theater but they were pretty incredible too. But they do go in for too much note shredding for my like! lol Sound under the balcony wasn't brilliant either.
Frost*'s Black Light Machine was awesone. Was I the only one singing "big banana" lol
Great show - hot as hell though. Any chance of a copy of the BLM sounds Jem for the X6 lol!
Take Care Everyone, Moogy :)
Wow, that is a great sounding set list! I keep seeing The Other Me crop up, and I think that might be a little Jem fav like Snowman...one of those songs that might evolve every time you hear it (this is a good thing!!!)
Sad to read the bit reminding us that this was in all likelihood Andy's last gig, but it is cool to hear he did it my melting people's faces off
Keep those reviews (youtubies, go!) coming!
Quote from: "Pedro"Bewildered smalltown prog fans faced with a *massive* queue for a gig 30 mins before "doors" time.
This, combined with the boys being on 10 minutes earlier than the expected 8pm, caught us out - Hyperventilate was playing as we came in!
Quote from: "Pedro"Northern Pound exchange rate pushes £5 CDs to £8
Tha needs to use Northern Pounds then, lad. Did thee not know?
Quote from: "Pedro"Mrs Pedro too short to see properly (not actually news that one)
Well you shouldn't stand in front of her then, should you?
I can add to the headlines (as many, especially Sawtooth, have said pretty much what I would!):
- It's a strange feeling being the only Englishman in a group in an Irish bar surrounded by 4 Scots and a Welshman.
- Nathan King is a Top Bloke. Not only is he a stupendously good player (THAT good on his debut gig?), but he seems to have fitted into the slightly-unhinged mentality of the band...
- DT are good for background music whilst chatting to Dec and Sound Man (I didn't catch his name, but he's a nice fella), and later the rest of the fellas.
- I bought 5 of the live CDs. She was getting to know me quite well by number 5.
- Mouse is, in fact, a weremouse. He chose to take on human form for the gig, presumably for his own safety.
- I have a new t-shirt - thank you Nellie
- TBE has come up with another slightly weeeeeiiiird set-up for his kit. Alas, i wasn't in a very good position to see it, let alone get a photo, but you can see a corner of it here (//http://phodroid.com/09/06/y7dmwk):
(//http://s.phodroid.com/09/06/y7dmwk.jpg) - It appears I was feeling a bit down after Frost* had finished, as evidenced by Drarok's sneaky photo-taking (//http://twitpic.com/77xs8):
(//http://s3.amazonaws.com/twitpic/photos/full/12127688.jpg?AWSAccessKeyId=0ZRYP5X5F6FSMBCCSE82&Expires=1244877429&Signature=edYDAx0t6vg4C8v66AV3yS7Yo68%3D) - TBE actually stands for "To Bed Early" (thank you, JM). A real shame I didn't get to chat with him, especially as I'm seriously thinking about employing him in his official capacity - even more so after talking with Dec and DaveM last night.
All in all, a cracking night. Great to see the band and great to meet Fellow Frost*ie Friends, old and new!
Jem/John/Dec/Nathan/Andy - Break a leg tonight!
Those lucky enough to see 'em tonight - prepare yourselves for a blast!
Fantastic words fellas! Top marks for getting so much down so late! :D Hope I can recipricate later tonight. And after I've recipricated I plan to to offer my own review contribution from Sarfampton.
Frost* and DT.... sooo excited!! :D :D
Had a great night!
Got home at 3.15 without any probs, but was all worth it just for The Other Me (the guys were just awesome) and for DT's medley for the encore.
Great to meet a few Frosties too :D
My only real grumble was that under the balcony, it was seriously bass heavy.
Oh mate what a night! Frost were just sublime! Only problem was the crowd, far too tame. In an reverse of the norm I ended up closer to the front by the end of the dt set but for frost I couldn't get very close. So happy abput black light machine. Also go the cool white shirt with multi colour frosterisk and logo on back which is mint. Got the live cd too but unfortunately forgot to get any more after the gig and diddnt fancy queing again :/ I'm sure the leftovers will be online. They were also 8 quid which was steep, I guess there was a misunderstanding somewhere ? Aside, it was immense and dream theater were good, although I don't think mp was feeling it. A lot of lost 1s and the sound was bad. Frost's was worse unfortunately, its like the sound guys just sat and watched the meters and diddnt change a thing. Waiting for the train now, I'm shagged. Great night and free breakfast from travelodge because our room flooded before we got there. Winner
Sounds great - and I'm pleased to see I got a fair bit of the setlist right! Hope it all goes brilliantly tonight as well and that those lucky souls attending have a fab time.
just look what we saw in Leeds after the gig, everyone has gone Frost* mad!!
A vid for Pocket Sun (//http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Om3IeSwrAM&feature=channel_page) has been posted.
Not really much to say that hasnt been said already. Frost* were greeeat and DT were just superb. Was lucky enough to meet most of Frost* (sadly no andy). Then me, Dr Arok, and the tiny mrs Arok has a good 2ish hour drive home.
Aha! So that was you at the coffee counter. You should have said or I should have asked! :D
Quote from: "RacingHippo"- TBE actually stands for "To Bed Early" (thank you, JM). A real shame I didn't get to chat with him, especially as I'm seriously thinking about employing him in his official capacity - even more so after talking with Dec and DaveM last night.
!
what would be his official capacity? Also this raises another point, JJ is concentrating on his business, what is his business does anyone know?
Me and my eldest lad enjoyed last night's Leeds gig a lot. The Dream Theater fans seemed like thoroughly nice guys and gals (was it me being an old perv, or was there a surprising number of attractive women there? Prog was never like that in my day...). And it seemed to me that a lot of the hardcore DT folk really enjoyed Frost. "Black Light Machine" went down a storm.
I loved the Frost* set, could have done with another 20 minutes of it, and 20 minutes less of DT (and I am a DT fan...). Not least cos it seemed like Jem and the guys got really warmed up into things about halfway through the set (not anything much wrong with the first couple of songs, just that to me things stepped up a gear for "Pocket sun").
My son, not knowing the names of Dream Theater's members, got a bit confused by Jem mentioning that he was being filmed from offstage by "Jordan". Well, she is on the look out for a new fella, isn't she? ;)
What I realised during the DT set was that, much as though I like them (I have all their studio albums, and most of the live ones), I got ever-so-slightly bored when the instrumental sections and riffs revolved heavily around fast shreddy scales without harmonic richness or melodic hooks. All the best prog/rock, including the long epic widdly stuff, has great tunes and themes, including DT's own best bits (maybe I'm getting conservative, but I thought the ballad "Hollow Years" was more interesting to listen to than other songs more reliant on fast unison riffing and Mike Portony's energy). Even so, had a great night, and really enjoyed lots of things about DT. One thing much to DT's credit - how many big-time "metal" bands can you go and see where the fans are equally likely to wear Metallica or Journey T-shirts?
Nice to see a few fellow Frosties dotted amongst the crowd, and shame not to be able to get chatting - but it was pretty packed and difficult to move! The atmosphere seemed fantastic to me. Now enjoying the Frost*fest sampler CD - £8 not at all unreasonable. Fab!
Above all, one thing really struck me - aren't lots of Dream Theater fans unusually tall? I'm not short, but next time I'd take a box to stand on... :-)
Cheers,
David

Seriously considering one of these things (no, NOT for me!) for Mrs Pedro to use.
She could then SEE where the sound is coming from and with me behind her there'd be no danger of falling off. :)

I was actually saying that to bizkitbass off here last night that I could be doing with a Richard Hammond-esque "gig-box" to stand on so I could see
Well I'm back home now listening to the new CD -wearing my newly aquired Frost Tee shirt. Agree with all that's been said about the Leeds gig - we were upstairs so didn't suffer from the sound problem with the bass that those of you downstairs had to put up with.
My only gripe was that they had 2 queues outside - 1 for downstairs & 1 for upstairs (seemed logical enough). But once we got upstairs I went to get my copy of the CD & my tee shirt only to be told that they had none and that I'd have to wait until after the gig to go downstairs to purchase them. I then went down & asked one of the door staff if I could just nip in to buy my merchandise only to be told I'd have to wait till after the show! I even offered to give her the cash if she'd get them for me - she then went across to the merchandise counter and asked if they'd put me the stuff on one side which apparantly they said they would - Why I wasn't allowed to buy the stuff myself is beyond me, and why didn't they have any Frost merchandise on sale upstairs as well as downstairs?
This was my first gig at the O2, and to be honest I wasn't too impressed with the venue at all - Despite all this I thought Frost were brilliant - they should've been allowed on earlier as we were all seated by 7.30 so they could've played for at least an hour. The CD is superb by the way - Can't wait for the full album to be released!
Quote from: "Pedro"Aha! So that was you at the coffee counter. You should have said or I should have asked! :D
Yeah that was me, i was half asleep tbh and my back had given out on me. The coffee kept me awake till we got home tho.
Wish I was lucky enough to be at Southampton tonight but last night's was a great gig.
Thought the setlist was spot on given the time constraints. Sound was ok-ish from where I was (front stage left) and Nathan seemed to fit in well. Superb player too. Nice to see Andy again, sadly for the last time as a Frostie.
Venue was I thought fairly poor. Wish i'd known about the balcony, Mrs M might have seen a bit more from up there. We walked in about 2 minutes into Hyperventilate so could have been worse. Good jobe they didnt come on any earlier. I was fearing a Manchester Academy situation.. 3 rooms, 1 queue = miss half the set...
I hope that some full size Frost gigs come round soon!
Quote from: "rob-m"I hope that some full size Frost gigs come round soon!
The wish of the many!
All in all, a good gig, let down a bit by the sound, the queues, the rather full venue and (for DT at least), the lights going all arena on us a bit too often. But had a good time anyway, and Frost* seemed to go down rather well, I hope they all had a blast, no doubt Jem will have things to say in due course :)
Cor blimey, what a night! I intend to write a complete and detailed account of the event on my blog at some point, so I'll link to there when I do. I'll also have a good few photos uploaded later and I'll post some here of course.
For now, Frost* were excellent! I really do hope Nathan King features in the Frost*iverse in the future. He really was very good and fitted into the band's madness perfectly. Superb! Dream Theater were loud, brilliant and loud. Mr. Rudess's iPhone solos were great to watch, which made up for the fact I could hardly see John Petrucci do anything as I'm a bit restricted height-wise. In fact, I could use one of them stools as well next time, Pedro!
Finally, wonderful to meet the Frost*ies I did meet: Ecosse, Brodie, Bizkitbass, RacingHippo, Pedro, Sawtooth - cheers to you all! I'd also like to thank Jem for the biiiig hug and to JM for not drawing a man-exclusive limb on my mate's Frost*Fest CD! :D
More will come later... :)
Quote from: "RacingHippo"- Mouse is, in fact, a weremouse. He chose to take on human form for the gig, presumably for his own safety.
 Yes, I forgot to mention that. Actually, maybe I should've changed - then I might've been able to see most of the stage! 8-)
And about the queue - now you know why I left the pub a bit early! Good Lord, I had no clue Prog was still popular!
Thank you for the reviews :D
Hi all, just wanted to add my tuppence worth. Fantastic gig.....being a DT fan since the early days of WDADU watching them up close and personal in the Cathouse in Glasgow with about 25 people in the audience and Charlie Dominici on vox (good times)....this was my FIRST Frost* gig and guys, you did us proud. Great sound and the band just seemed to have a blast!! As a bass player myself hats off to Nathan King for some great playing :-) Was sad not to see JJ playing (would've been my first time) but hey, can't have it all eh?
Dream Theater were great, can MP's kit get any BIGGER ????!!!! As Ecosse said where we both were the bass sound just seemed overpowering in places but all-in-all, apart from some incredibly tall DT fans...I thoroughly enjoyed the gig. Great set, nice to hear some Change of Seasons again....great medley encore.
Big thanks to Ecosse for doing the driving and what a nice guy too! Him and his gigbuddy were very welcoming towards me as we'd never met until he picked me up at my house - there are still some jolly nice folk in this world (and on this forum). Great to be a Frostie* :-)

Here, we have Ecosse, Brodie, RacingHippo and biskitbass in O'Neil's before the gig. I really should've had one of those burgers too, I was starving! I've uploaded a truck load of Dream Theater photos with some more Frost* ones to Facebook here (//http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=82070&id=552434683&l=adfd9837bc).
Bloody hell Mouse - those photos on Facebook are stunning. Really captured the event from a closer perspective to my viewing position on the balcony. Thanks so much!
Top night ... queue was insane, so went for pint instead, met up with Beano and his pals (Stuart), returned to find we'd missed the start, luckily for me, even those who stayed in the queue didnt make it inside in time for the start.
The band played really well, best front of house sound I've heard for Frost .. the crowd were very receptive, with many favourable comments coming from DT fans around me. Jem in particular looked like he was having fun, and Mr Mitchel was on fire .. I'll never get trired of BLM and THAT solo ! The EIMA songs are sounding great live now that the band have played them more. All in all, great fun, shame it wasnt 20 mins longer.
Moved to the back to continue drinking with Beano and Racing Hippo, the sticky floor making movement from the bar area difficult. Dec (nice shirt), Jem, JM and Nathan came out for a chat .. which was nice .. however those American Roadies had been upsetting JM somewhat !
DT were ... precise, technically brilliant musicians, but it was all a bit too widdly widdly for me .. as I said to Beano, I felt like a non believer at a religious meet. SO drink I did .. and a marvellous night out in Leeds I had.
The drive home the following morning was to the sounds of the Rosfest CD ... which I can highly recommend.

Cheers mate! If we'd have been any closer, we would have been killed to death by some very mad DT fans. There was a guy in front of us who looked like he was ready to sacrifice a small goat to the god of Blood and Metal.
I've also written a fairly detailed report on my
B.L.O.G. (Blathering Loudly On, Generally) (//http://www.beyondtheborderoflunacy.blogspot.com/) which features Frost*'s set. I'll get around to covering DT in the next couple of days.
Nice blog, Mouse!! :D

i was singing big banana too!
i was 3rd from the front at the dream theater set i was in with th metal people lol

Of those three, Jem's the only one with no teeth.
Jem disguised himself as an out-on-the-piss accountant.
I forgot to say ... MP's drum kit .. WTF ... is that the biggest drum kit in the world ? There was barely room for Nozzers merrygoround !
Somehow I don't imagine either DT or Frost* really float Mr Wilson's boat so I'm slightly surprised to see him there!
Maybe they have been working on something in secret...

Mouse, great blog and pics. I'm impressed! :D
I was lucky enough to be right in front of Jem, singing my tits off and having a banging time, lots of people were stood soaking it in because from chatting outside and before the show a lot of people had no idea who Frost* were. They certainly did afterwards, it was a cracking performance from the boys and Jem and The New Kid especially were brilliant.
Awesome!
I shouted out "You're a lion!" after Pocket Sun finished, which got a few laughs from some around me, but I don't think any Frost*ies heard it. ;)

Nah, I don't know who she is, but she's obviously a hardened fan as she was at the Frost*mas bash at The Peel.
Anna was at the back with Drarok (and mikebass, as it turns out) when I met her. I suspect she doesn't normally walk around with her neck stretched as though she's trying to see over the top of something though.

Evening chaps. I've been a bit lax of late, and I don't think I've actually been on the forum since the gig, oops!
The random coffee encounter was very strange – did you overhear something to tip you off, Pedro? (It was Pedro, right?)
Indeed it was me with Mrs Pedro at the services.
The fact that you and Sir Mike of Bass were wearing Frost* shirts demanded that something was said. Then, once I had pictured you wearing a large red inflatable fez, the identification against your twitter-image was complete! ;)
Ah, I see! Damn, my goomba disguise is clearly lacking! :(
