Every forum needs its "What are you listening to ?" thread, so here it is people. Now every single one of us can try to impress other Frost*ies by displaying his/her impressive musical culture, or just merely share favourites, old and new alike. Adding cover arts is highly recommended of course, but please keep in mind that 300x300 images are big enough ;)
Being still really sad about it, let me honor the memory of a really, really beautiful person.

R.I.P. Mike Baker.
I'm listening to the sound of a forum about to disappear up its own arse with over-clever showing off about stuff we'd never actually listen to more than once. YMMV.
NP threads were banned in The Other Place. Has this been lifted?
Sorry if I failed to uphold the Law ! My mistake. I was away for a long time on the last board and wasn't aware such policy was enforced.
Feel free to delete if necessary...
But I must stress out that this is no mere "over-clever show off". Well, at least from my point of view. I don't listen to this many records, so the ones I intend to display as "Now Playing" in such a thread are *really* faves o' mine which I just want to share with everyone.
Anyway, please do as you must, good sir.
Knew Tom would react like that, if he hadn't responded I would, but hey the forum is changing and we cannot live in the past. We could always ignore this thread
Valhall, put a link to your last.fm profile in your sig or something. But NP lists have a very strong tendency to degenerate into willy-waving. "Look at how clever I can be, look at what an esoteric/cool record I'm listening to."
(The 'non-prog song you can't get out of your head' came dangerously close to this at times, back on the old board. And I was one of the culprits.)
Perhaps we should sidestep this, by having (in typical Frost*ies style) a "the least surprising record I listened to this week".
For me it was 'Milliontown' by Frost*.
As I said, I'm not the kind to show off with an ecstatic smiley this brand new underground portuguese prog metal band that just appeared on progarchives.com... And I couldn't agree more to the problems implied by such a thread.
But we're all grown-ups (well, to a certain degree that is) here, so I guessed it was alright.
I'm listening to Jon and Vangelis Short Stories. what a great album.
8-)
Roger, is that you posting on-topic? Tsk.
(tries derail tactic 2 - the Eno gambit)
At the moment I'm listening to the sound of my wife sleeping deeply and in the background I can just hear the dishwasher downstairs. The energy-saving lightbulb next to my left ear is whining very gently, and the cat at the foot of the bed just stretched and made some little chirrups in her dream.

sorry, been a rough evening. I'll try to do better in the future.
my cat has fleas.

The Moog action on this is just awesome..... :)
Posting on Topic ?
I much prefer Picnics, it's the fruit and nut combination with that delicious Cadbury's milk chocolate that I love ... mmm ... might have to nip out to the garage now.
You're nuts!
Topic is way better than Picnic.

No way .. Picnic could have Topic in a fight anyday

But they're made out of ca...um... peanuts!
Dave: Clearly Topic has a lot more muscle power and great taste - a combination which renders it unbeatable!
RH: Choose a side, sir, we can't have you on the sidelines muttering things about peanuts.
Oh, I'm clearly on-Topic here.
Hazelnuts > peanuts.
I mean... can you imagine the strapline "a peanut in every bite"? It just doesn't have the same... je ne sais crunch.

Is he in the peanut gallery (//http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peanut_gallery)?
:D

Ok I'll see your Topic and raise you to a manly YORKIE bar ... they're big and tough... and truckers eat them !

That's one out of three for this Yorkie then :D
come on guys, take it easy ...
... with Cadbury's Caramel
David
i'd just like to state for the record that cadburys creme eggs are my least favourite confection, closely followed by stale cheap chocolate that has gone a bit white around the edges. you know what i'm talking about.
back to Tom's off topic topic though, - i can hear a car alarm, a humming mac and a small child insistently yelling for 'cook-ed milk'. I am ignoring all of them.
I've never had one of those Yorkie bar things, at least I don't think I have. So I'm sticking to my Topic.
As for Tom's topic, I can hear the not so gentle sound of a military aircraft. The military pilot training thingie is really close to where I live. I wonder if it's on Googlemaps?
ww: You chose the avatar I suggested! Yay! (:-D
I'm quite partial to a Cadbury's Twirl. Not so messy as a Flake; flakier than a Wispa (nice to see them back again) but not a patch on the old Cabana bars... now they were good. (Topics have nasty nuts in them! And Snickers are even worse.)
Cadbury's Caramel is the one thing that occasionally slips through the "No I mustn't" diet force-field these days. Chocaphiles will declare that this is not proper chocolate, of course, but it works for me! :)
