How interesting ! I could have browsed that list for ages ! Would recommend it to any like-minded OCD sufferers.

In particular, it's amazing how many people have signed up, but never actually posted.

Looks like there are 491 members, but only 313 have posted.

What happenend to the other 178 ?

Food for thought, eh ?

Not that there is anything wrong with that!

When my sons were small, their preferred way of eating an Iced Gem was to bite off the icing and then discard the unwanted biscuit-y bit.

Title: Re: Soggy biscuithood....and beyond

Iced Gems are small biscuits - about 3/4 of an inch across - with a relatively large blob of icing (in different colours and flavours) on the top.

Interesting: I didn't know about the member list page (thanks Pedro), but am deeply gratified to see that, even though I'm well behind those ladies of the night, Catherine and Nellie (hey, Nellie started it and it's been a while since I've said anything to invoke Mouse's signature  :D ), I am nevertheless on the first page of posters.

And that despite having been very busy with the big move to the Netherlands recently, which we're still in the middle of. I hope to post more, dear Frost*ie friends, when I get settled.

In the meantime, I can offer you a piece of news from a meeting that I took part in earlier this week, at which we Europeans agreed on a new joint Mars robotic exploration program with our US colleagues. Quite a departure from previous strategies, but follows on in the same collaborative spirit of Frost*'s recent hands-across-the-Atlantic performance at ROSfest

Indeed: quite a departure for both the US and Europe, to be honest. But given that we have pretty convergent ambitions, aiming at returning samples from Mars to Earth in the mid-2020s, it makes sense look at a joint program that maximises the science we can do along the way.

Will keep all you space fans posted  :D

Sorry? You mean you're supposed to eat that bit too?

Actually I used to bite the icing off and give the biscuitey bit to my big sis, who really, really didn't have a sweet tooth. It was a good deal.

If you lived nearer I'd introduce you to an old friend by the name of Bernard Mosley, who builds robots. His company has built a Mars Rover which he's hoping will get onto one of the planned missions. It's great fun to play with :)

My Brother builds robots to take part in Robot Wars style tournaments. Most of them weigh hardly anything and are the size of my hand, but every now and then he comes out with something like this...

Not anywhere near the same league as the space exploration stuff, but it's fun to bash things with.  :)

I can see a fundamental flaw with that design, Mouse.
The wheels should be on the bottom!

Bernard built one for the Official Robot Wars on telly. It was a tank-like thing called "Hefty"*... which got about 2 minutes of fame on telly before conking out and consequently losing.

Here it is:

The website for it is archived here. (//http://racinghippo.co.uk/mad_camo/) The diary is a good read if you have the time. And the style section / guided tour is fascinating if you're into robotics.

* Actually "F.T.": F***ing Tank.

The wheels come out both sides of the robot, so that if it gets flipped over, it can still run around on it's top. It's technically unbeatable, unless it goes down the arena pit, or gets trashed, or gets cleaved in half, or gets thrown out of the arena, or its killswitch is triggered, or if chocolate gets in the electronics, or...

That tank thing is awesome.  :)

What ho! I'm a Cadbury's Boaster
That means I'm responsible for most o'
The posts that you see
They were mainly by me!
I'm a truly prolific Frost* poster!

I used to be a fine fig roll
I had body, and rhythm, and soul
Plus a yummy fig filling
But I never was willing
To dance, at the Peel, on a pole.

I aspire to become an Iced Gem
Let no-one my ambitions condemn
A gem that is iced
Has often sufficed
With brandy, for loosening phlegm.

On this, the momentous occasion of my 1000th post, I would like to thank:
Frost* for the music, the gigs, the CDs and the madness
My family, for coping with me hooting with laughter while visiting the Frost* forum
My cat Isaiah, for covering me with ginger hairs at every possible opportunity
My fellow forumeers - I couldn't have done it without you!

Do I get a telegram from the Queen now?

Catherine xx

Well, I was trying to think of something vaguely risqué to say here in response to Catherine's 1000th post, if only to get a Twisted Evil smiley response and justify Mouse's eternally flattering signature  :D

But, y'know what, I'm so completely flummoxed, banjaxed, and discombulated by her post, that I have no choice but to simply say:

Congratulations, old girl!

But where's my Twisted Evil smiley, eh ? :D

(As for grandpa, actually, if you'd sent that to me about fifteen years ago, you'd have been right: as it is these days, I'm just a plain dad. But rest assured no-one died in the making of this peculiar conundrum  ;) )

I don't think I've ever done a Twisted Evil smiley - I'm just fundamentally too nice a person. I was also so sorry to hear that you'd been discombulated, which sounds a very distressing experience. (Does it involve having your comb pinched out of your Man-bag?)

Regarding your conundrum: the only way I can think that it might work, without death being involved, is if you were previously married to a grandma.

As for my conundrum, nope, not that hard to solve after all: you're quite correct (although she was not, as proposed by drblowthingsup, my own grandma   ). Even so, very odd having sons your own age, it is (or was, more correctly). Frost* material through and through ...

I dunno whether muffling Spike Milligan is a good idea: an unsung genius in my book  :D

Here are a couple of my favourite poems from his "Silly Verse for Kids", from memory over a 35+ year baseline:

String

String is a very important thing
Rope is thicker
But string is quicker

Mary Pugh

Mary Pugh was only two
When she went out of doors.
She went up standing up, she did,
But came back on all fours.
The moral of this story is,
Please meditate and pause:
"Never send a baby out with loosely waisted drawers."
