Sorry for the dreadful Subject title, but I couldn't resist it.
Just to say Wakeman played the title track from EIMA on his Planet Rock show last week and apparently was glowing about it afterward so that's jolly good and muchos thankos to him for that. :D
Yay! Does that make him a Frost*eRick?
Should do its a bloody good track lol :) Glad frost getting bit more exporsure seen in couple of mags over recent months :)
Marvelous! Prog Royalty, he is! :D
Blimey! Nice one!
Fab! :D
My man Rick; shook him by the hand once, I did. Nothing memorable for him, but 'twas quite something for me.
Even though he has turned out some execrable rubbish in more recent years (err, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s), he remains rightly revered in my ears for the many wondrous (sic) things wot he done beforehand (Fragile, CTTE, TFTO with Yes, King Arthur & Henry's Many Missuses on his own, Space Oddity as a session man, and so on).
So I'm very pleased to hear that he liked EIMA. Great minds think alike 'n' all that jazz :D
Silly me - I was looking for the 'like' button. I've clearly been spending too much time on Facebook.
...and now you can hear what he said! :D
I've got my Sky+ box recording Rick's Place every Saturday in case something like this happens. It took some finding but there is a 2 minute mp3 of the link between Owner Of A Lonely Heart and EIMA available for download here (//http://rapidshare.com/files/250136311/RickSaysYesToFrost.MP3).
(sorry it's a clunky rapidshare download again).
For those that can't be bothered, (paraphrased) he :-
- talks a little about how he didn't play on OOALH and would be rich if he had <studio buddy laughs rather a lot!>
- introduces Frost* with humourous "Frost*...not David-" and "...not David Jason" but "...Frost* the band".
- and says "I like this album because this particular track is so, almost prog rocky in the way that it lulls you into a false sense of security of how the track is going to be. I just love things like that....my friend Prokofiev was the past master of this....and - I just really like this track, it's called EIMA from the album of the same name"....<track starts>
So, all in all a very good mention! :)
going to put on Journey to the Center of the Earth and Criminal Record. just because.
Did I misread that, or did Rick Bloomin' Wakeman just compare Jem Godfrey's composition to Prokofiev?! Crikey! :D
Better than being Rick Rolled.

Ohhh nice!
Shame I missed it live. The kitchen radio is constantly on Planet Rock over the weekend, and I usually catch a lot of Rick's Place, especially if I'm doing "chores"
Oh, I remember now. The rest of the family were out and I was mostly blasting Darwin's Radio from the HiFi :D

Me too, TA, when he played in Cambridge with Jon Anderson a couple of years back. I even bumped into him outside the gig afterwards as I was on my way back to the car park and ended up giving him (and his Bentley) directions to the Cambridge Ring Road.
That's great, hey! :D
All these may months I have endured snide comments from Mrs Sussex Prog and the Progettes about Planet Rock and the ONE weekend I miss Sir Rick, I miss Frost* too! Gonna head for the listen again feature. Anybody know roughly when it appeared?
We need to have a concerted email attack on Planet Rock now, congratulating Mr Wakeman for his extreme taste and discernment in playing a Frost* track for us, and asking for plenty more! The email address you'll be needing, people, is:
rick@planetrock.comso get busy with those emails!
Done! :D
Well done Pedders!
(I PMed you earlier - did you get it??)
Rick is a first class Gent! I've had the privilege of meeting him twice and he's such a down to earth guy, not pretentious in any way :)
Mr Wakeman gave FROST* another great plug on his show today and played Hyperventilate :D
Switched on Rick's Place this morning and found it was 7/8ths of the way through Hyperventilate. Grooveh!
Fantastic! So the email campaign is working! Good old Rick! (Lovely bloke)

That would be an appropriate time! :D

Lovin' your work DS! ;)
Wakey's becoming a proper Frost*ie! 8-)
OK, I've found it on my Sky+ and once again they were very complementary.
Not sure I can be bothered to go through the faff of posting a recording of it (only 10 people downloaded the last one - must find an easier way to share stuff).
But I will pass on three things they said :-
1) "Frost* again. We like Frost*. Yes, we like Frost*"
2) "We've had loads of emails."
3) "Great album, called Millennium"....<insert sound of recoord-player needle being suddenly dragged off record>
Millennium??? Rick, mate, you were doing so well!!
I say; let's fire up the email campaign again and let's see if we can go 3 for 3.
When in the programme was it? So that I can use the Planet Rock listen again function?
Approx 30 - 31 minutes in, on my recording which started at the beginning of the news at 10am.
So, subtract 2 minutes for the news it should be 28 - 29 minutes into the programme. :)
I'll be emailing, great news!! :D
Should we ask for Black Light Machine next, or Dear Dead Days?
By coincidence, I emailed Rick at lunchtime requesting BLM! :D
Rick Wakeman used to be the chairman of Camberley Town FC, and I would often frequent the bar to play pool, and on one occasion, received the evil eye from Mr Wakeman for the entire time; might have had something to do with me wearing my Asia t-shirt, with the band's names on the back   ;)
Well it seems that Rick didn't go for the triple and mention Frost* again....even though he fumbled the name of the first album last week.
Never mind, two out of three ain't bad, as they say.... :D

There's always next week to try again. :D
True.
If we can link Frost* with Biker Morris Men we may stand a chance....

I'd be prepared to dress in white leathers and a crash helmet and wave a hankie around if that's what it takes...
Although I suppose it should really be the Frost* boys themselves for maximum impact.
   :?

Indeed, especially if Jem is revising his stagewear as discussed elsewhere.
