Thanks, I know the PM has landed in his Inbox (cos it left my Outbox when he logged on at lunchtime. However, as they say, you can lead a megastar to water but you can't make him read his PMs!

Hopefully he'll have a look when he is next between boxed sets of "Last of the Summer Wine".... ;)

As soon as you put the wall back up? Until then I guess you're saddled with ours....  ;)

Do PM's stay in your outbox until read?

I'm not really sure but I think they stay in your Outbox until the recipient logs in.
I don't think the sender has any way of knowing if the recipient has actaully read them...hence my (apparently stupid) belt, braces and staple-gun approach of posting what seemed to be a pointless thread.

I knew Jem was online cos he was posting at the time but, unless you have the popup setting switched on, I think the only clue you have a message is the small count at the top of the screen....easy for someone as busy as Jem to miss.

Of course, we also shouldn't rule out the "Oh no, another PM from Pedro" effect.... ;)

Hmm. Good point.
A further test is in order...

On other forums I moderate the PM stays in your outbox until the person you sent it to opens the PM

What did our test prove?
Just that we were logged in? or that it had been read?
Maybe we should have put a time on it.
Hang on, if it stayed in your outbox then it was there until read, as I was logged in

Have only read the one, but it knows, I know, there's another unread message, I now have no new messages, just 1 that is unread.

So, szabiakanich has n't received the one I sent the other night then. That's OK. Thought it hadn't sent properly

So is it the act of viewing your inbox that clears it out of my outbox??

So what do you see of the two you sent me RH?
I've only opened one....

Looks like he's gone.
If you open one, it marks the other one as not being new, i.e no new messages, but you still have one message saying unread.

Both have disappeared from my outbox.
That suggests to me that it's the act of viewing your inbox that "delivers" the PM.

There's a discussion about the PM system on the PHPBB support forum here (//http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=675335) but all it says is "this looks broken", "no it's not", "it's counter-intuitive then", "actually, it isn't" and descends into not so much a flame war as a hair-dryer skirmish.

Those who had PM's sitting in their outbox would have known that they had been sent but the recipients Inbox not opened. Unlike Microsoft where it would not have been sent.
Hope the suspense didn't kill anyone  :D

Is there a band called "The Suspense"?

If not, shall we form one?
