Personally, I was hitting F5 (refresh) a lot....

It was like "the day the forum stood still" :)

I fear it might have been one of those much talked about but yet to be proved Reality Leaks, where people allegedly do really retro things like "go outside" or "do other things" such as actually phyically seeing people or visiting tangible locations.

Tis the season to be holly - day.

And there is the Cambs rock festival, some Frosties were definitely in attendance yesterday, Touchstone play today so expect possibly more quiet moments. On the forum that is.  ;)

I kept popping in but didn't have anything (non) sensical to say

I was at the Cambridge Rock, Beer and Mud Festival watching Tinyfish, DeeExpus, Manning and Solstice. What a great day! What a lovely idea to have a CRS stage!  :D

Am now agonising as to whether to go along tonight. On the plus side, Touchstone, Karnataka, Focus and Asia are playing on the main stage. On the negative side, the main stage timings were poor on Thursday night (things running about an hour late) and dreadful on Saturday night (things running about 2 hours late) so I'd probably end up missing Asia if I did go as Monday's my first day back at work after 2 weeks off and a late night beforehand would not be a great plan.

So, how was Solstice live? Did they play any material from their upcoming new album?

They suffered a bit from sound problems at the start, but I thought they were very good. It was the first time I had seen them, so all the music was new to me. I particularly liked the reggae jig that they played.

yay!

sounds like a fun day for everyone.  we're visiting my family in Iowa, as we return my boys to their mom's for the school year.  we've had a great time, but we're leaving today, so lots of heavy hearts.  I won't see my boys until Christmas.  :(

Time'll fly by, Rog. The past year for me went by in the blink of an eye.

Meanwhile, yesterday I was actually out and about seeing real people in a real place! Oh, the beauty of it all!

wow, that's rough, rog.  I hope you enjoyed your time with them.  from the looks of it, I'd say you made the most of your time together.  I'll see if can speed up Christmas for you.  Just a day ago I tried to strike a deal with Father Time...

We were at my brother's in Kingston, helping incinerate a load of dead things over a charcoal brazier. The kids jumped up and down a lot on a trampoline and much beer was consumed.

Trust you're all well, rog. The year will hopefully fly by, as has been said already.

I've been traveling out of town for my day job. I usually take the more serene open country roads
which I like better than the NYS Thruway, not as crazy. But lately even the trip is getting old
and I'm currently finding other routes to traverse central New York.  We've been getting hammered
with severe thunderstorms the past week as well so I've had to unplug everything.

I think I've stopped in here a few times but didn't see much going on.

BTW Father Time was the name of the very first prog song I ever played on in my very first
band I played on towards the end of my high school years. We shot a video but I'm not
brave enough to post it here from youtube! ;)

Was away on a short holiday with the family in the Tirol and 'twas very nice.

If I recall correctly now that I'm back at work, on Saturday we walked along the rather spectacular Kundl Gorge west of Innsbruck: a must visit. On Sunday, we were in Bolzano on the Italian side, playing mini-golf and then looking at a pretty stunning collection of mummified bodies, centred on the famous 5,300 year old Ice Man, Oetzi, but also including Egyptians in their bandages, bog people, South American altiplano mummies, and 18th century Hungarians.

Very interesting, although my seven year old son did say that by the end, he'd seen enough dead bodies for one day

Oh, and on Monday we drove over the high Timmelsjoch pass back into Austria; not a little unnerving, I'll freely admit

The Timmelsjoch Pass is amazing; I drove over that in a 1.3 Marina a few (ahem!) years back when I was 20 and spent a month in the Alps as field assistant to a Ph.D Geology student.

It is great, isn't it? Coming up from the Italian side, I must have looked up above towards the clouds several times to see narrow roads switch-backing across the mountain and said "no way are we driving up there", but each time we did. Gulp

It's the exposure that's impressive. Much like the difference between walking along a white line on the floor and walking along a balance beam, driving on a road with such steep fall-offs below is quite something.

It's also bloody narrow at points and people don't exactly slow down to squeeze past.

(Of course, if you're a passenger and prone to car sickness, don't even think about it  :D )

I saw a few of them when I was at GuilFest, the Guilford Music Festival, last month.  ;)

Wow: did they have the same characteristic wrinkled chocolate tanned skin as the ancient ones? I thought you had to live in California for that  :D

Lets just say that the bogs I saw them in and/or around were... unpleasant, causing the colouring of their skin.    :(

Hi there. Sorry but I'm a creature of the night my friends. Thus I mainly pop up 'round here when the stars lit the dark drapery above... Been working my ass off all day (well, all night too, really), so I'm quite at a loss for words here. I don't even really know what I am doing here. I saw a light and thought I'd pay a visit...

...

Hello ?

Is there anybody here ?

Somebody ? Hello ?

Wow. I was completely convinced that my browser must've been stuck in cache hell: only 3 posts or so all day long ...

Then again, I did get home late from work last night, turned on the satellite telly at 23:00 expecting to see the news at 22:00 in the UK, only to find that it was "Would I Lie To You?" was on instead. Duh: Bank Holiday Monday in Britain, while we continental types were slaving away.

Hope you all had a good one  :D

In passing, I have to say that the one thing I'll miss living over here is Dave, as in the TV channel, since it's not broadcast FTA on Freesat. The crown jewels of British TV in days gone by may well have been programmes about days even further gone by, i.e. the costume dramas. But these days, it has to be comedian-led pseudo panel game shows such as "Would I Lie To You?", but even better "QI", "Have I Got News For You?", "Never Mind The Buzzcocks", "Mock The Week", and so on, all of which are endlessly rebroadcast on Dave.

They may well be semi-scripted, but never fail to evoke huge gales of laughter in our household.

And speaking of "Mock The Week" reminds me of Hugh Dennis and the brilliant "Outnumbered", particularly the astonishingly good Ramona Marquez as Karen. Laugh? I bought the series  :D

Outnumbered is indeed brilliant (if a little too familiar for parents at times!).  :)
I think it will be bought.
