In the light of Jem's latest accident and some posts about sports, I'm curious what sports you practice/practiced.
My chronological list would be:
- trampoline (my first sport, my dad was the trainer. "Bad" thing was I was the only male for most of the time, so I won most of the championships... :lol: Still can do some somersaults - on trampoline or in a diving pool)
- football (or soccer, for the Americans. For about 5 years as a kid - my dad was quite upset because I left the trampoline group for such a profane sport ;) )
- volleyball (still playing)
On the more unusual side: sports I checked out or still practice:

- boomerang (have about 10 different ones that always came back - sometimes even without having to move)
- slacklining (just bought it this year, still trying to do more than 5 meters...)

- juggling (okay, not more than three balls or clubs [right word?])
- bicycling (only in good weather, though ;) Have a new cross bike - you might have seen it in another thread)
- geocaching (great outdoor sport, do it mostly while hiking. Tomorrow, I plan on finding around 15 caches. http://www.geocaching.com/ (http://www.geocaching.com/) )
- billard (was quite good at the "normal" bar pool 9-ball and quite bad at carambolage or Snooker. Haven't played for many years...)

nothing wrong with being the only guy on a trampoline.
I was on the YMCA swim team from about age 11 -14, then track & cross country through Jr High & High School.
I'm a 2nd degree black belt in Tang Soo Do, but I've been out of commission for nearly two years due to injuries. Lately I've been running & bicycling to get back in shape.
It's not working, thanks to my other fitness routine of daily 12 ounce curls :oops:

My sporting endeavours are in the past .. Football, rugby, tennis .. Last one I took up was Tae Kwondo, got to blue belt but moved away from my club ... Now I mostly watch or play with my sports mad son.
I was an international class drinker, but even that has passed me by now .. Need to find a sport soon or I won't fit in my car !r
I think these are like single arm bicep curls but where the weight is a fluid-filled container.
I suspect that the container gets lighter with each rep and needs to be refilled often. :D
I've recently taken up tennis which is fun, though I'm embarrassingly bad at it. Once I've learnt to hit the ball better I'm hoping to be less embarrassing. And I do some occasional horse riding.
Latest acquisition is a Wii and Wii Fit which I'm really enjoying using (once I can prise the offspring off it) and I'm aiming for at least 30 mins of exercise a day on that.
I used to walk a lot more in my daily routine, taking my sprogs to school, which clocked up about 3 miles a day, but as the boys have got older and I've started working longer hours they now go by themselves and I've noticed an alarming tendency to pile on the pounds. Hence the Wii Fit!

I never was very sporty, we had to take music lessons when i was young. Sports were never stimulated. But the last 7 years or so, i have done different sorts of sports.
Running, body pump, hiking, yoga but now i concentrate on cycling.
At various times I've played Rugby, Football, Cricket and swam for local clubs
Although I've fallen out of it due to my timetable I'm picking it back up in September. I've been practising quite a bit of Parkour in spare time.
Accidents? Always when I tried something outside of my ability, I had a few scrapes, and two days of not being able to bend down (My limbs had been overwhelmed with lactic acid and endorphines. I really pushed myself running for about two miles jumping and leaping over various stuff.
I miss it, it's so fun being that free. You feel like a superhero sometimes taking jumps and falls that should kill you 8-) Awesome sauce :D
This week I've had remarkable success in the Tinyfish Fantasy Football league. I'm at the top with 43 points! And I know nothing at all about football! My team is chiefly noteworthy for its lurid strip.
I still enjoy a good game of ten pin bowling when the opportunity arises. I have also enjoyed miniature golf in the past. 8-)
I used to do a lot of cycling, tennis and bowling. Love volleyball and badminton - in fact, I once served an entire volleyball game (no autographs, please). I also enjoy darts and very nearly went pro in tournament miniature golf when I was younger and unembarrassable.
My sports were squash and rugby. I gave up rugby cos it hurt too much and then when I got decrepit, gave up squash cos that hurt even more ESP the morning after. I'm talking total agony, took ten minutes to get out of bed hurt. And then another ten to stand up straight.
Now I'm mostly drinking beer but am thinking about playing "Old Man's Squash"
aka racquetball.
Karting for me.
Used to be race director at our local track so lots of chances to race or tuition. My size and weight can be a problem against people who are only half my size/weight!
Used to do a lot of backpacking/long distance walks but my backs knacked now so not much of that anymore. Saying that i shouldn't be driving karts either. :shock:

Noticed Jem mentioned busting two ribs after karting. It is the most common injury along with whiplash. Luckily had neither myself but we tended to race with people who know what they are doing. No matter how much you warn the public that they can hurt themselves they will still go on and treat them as a fast version of bumpercars and a collision at around 30mph is going to hurt!
I like Pilates but it's not really a sport, more of a bendy stretchy thingy. I haven't done it for a whole year now so I have a bit extra sitting down fat to shift.
My new Wii Fit is going to sort me out though along with the stress of moving house.
So what's your Wii age, Nellie?
Mine's varied from 53 :shock: :( to 35 :D :D
within the last week.
I've discovered a surprising talent for hula-hooping and step, but I'm absolutely rubbish at heading footballs as my instinct is to duck when they come at me. And I've finally got the hang of the ski jump after many, many failed attempts.

On Friday night after 3 glasses of wine, I was 50! (Do you find you fall over a lot? It asked :lol: )
I took the remote to my brother's house today so the boys could play together and left it there so now I'm Wii less until further notice.

You have to bend your knees while you're going down the slope and then straighten up once you're in the air - that's if you ever get as far as being in the air in the first place!
I wanna see the picture of that guy once he's completed his run to the bottom .... it's only going to end up one way :D

12 ounces is the size of a US beer can. I try to get in a few reps daily but as Pedders pointed out, it's an excercise in diminishing returns :D

I raced motocross/enduro's (dirt motorcycles) from around 1977 I think I did my last event in 1993 and being a speed freak thoroughly enjoyed it! I've won my fair share of races and was reasonably fast at my peak, I even managed to be local champ in 1981... I bet if I got on an MXer now I'd be dog slow though!!
I also had a spell doing Tug of War and used to pull (make your own jokes up) for my county side - Isle of Wight. I only did it for a couple of seasons in the mid 80's, but still managed to damage a knee that's never properly recovered. It's a surprisingly tough sport especially at national level, and there is a lot of technique and fitness involved as well as brawn.
We used to smile sometimes when a rugby club would field a team of great big blokes and we'd just pull them straight over... all down to technique.

I was a fencer, incidentally. Now, like so many of us, I'm training with the 12 oz arm-curl team.
