Hello chaps.
I've been asked to do something for the Kidderminster College open evening so I've decided to do a clinic. I haven't decided what quite to do yet but I may play a few Frost songs.
The event is on next Thursday and it's free!
My mate Gary Edwards will also do a talk on the future of music. Gary worked on my DVD and has worked with The Prodigy, Bjork, My Bloody Valentine and a load of other artists but he now writes and lectures on philosophy and has a lot of intersting things to say on music.
I have also done the music for a series of films he has produced of which the first is up on YouTube.
It's all here...

If you can pop down please do.
I just love drum clinics, but unfortunately it's a bit out of cycle range; 200 km -some water- more km.
The last one i went to was 30 km....oh yeah...right it was a chap called Benny Greb and i really enjoyed it.
Wish you lot's of fun and a good audience.
I'm planning on going (work permitting).
Having studied with TBE a couple of years ago I have seen first hand how good he is, and also got to discuss our philosophies on music and the world in general.
Hope to see some of you there!!!
I'd love to get to it, but Unfortunately my wife's down in london, leaving me looking after our wee lad. And I don't think he'd be quite as riveted to the event as me, so bringing him's not an option.
Poo. And double-poo.
Some very interesting stuff from your Kidderminster students on your Myspace page, Andy: congratulations on letting them play so freely and creatively.
As for Melodyne, linked to from your blog post, well, very very clever but scary scary stuff and no doubt very widely used to turn original crap into, err, processed crap most of the time. Then again, the fact that it has been written by Germans is somehow reassuring to me: odd that :?
Also, I should tread carefully here, as no doubt many of the pieces of music I hold dear to my heart have also been through manipulation of some kind, whether in this highly computerised way or by more analogue screwing around in the past. The image of Eddie Offord piecing Close To The Edge together out of sliced up bits of mag tape and sellotape comes to mind ... :D
Finally, thanks too for the links to Gary Edwards' philosophy video: any relation?
Not knowing what a "clinic" is, exactly (will read the links shortly to see if they help, not sure whether or not I'd be interested in this?
I did make some enquiries into getting taught by Andy, but communication wasn't so great for me, and then work moved office away from Halesowen to Worcester, so it wasn't as convenient anymore.
This sounds like some sort of appeal as in "Free Nelson Mandela". What's the poor lad done?

even though I've been following this thread, when I saw the title today that's exactly what I thought!!
Hello peeps
A clinic is usually when a musician shows off then talks about their instrument and people ask questions.
I will be showing off and playing some Frost and IQ songs but the discussions will be non drum based as the event is open to all musicians (and non musicians)
My friend Gary (who is no relation) will be talking too, on what I don't know but he usually puts the cat among the pidgeons.
Gary is a good friend of mine. He was a producer for many years, he's had two number 1 singles and 2 number 1 albums. He's worked with Bjork, Primal Scream, 808 state, Prodigy, My Bloody Valentine, Catatonia, the list goes on and on.
A few years back he stopped doing music after he published some influential work on philosphy and cognitive science.
I have worked with hime very closely and he has helped me to understand how we learn music and musical instruments.
This clinic has come together very quickly as the college at short notice asked me to do something and Gary and myself were available.
If you really want to know how to play drums please come down. With Gary there it will give another dimension to the clinic.
It will be an informal event, if you come down ask on reception or just come up to the third floor, I'm in room 310. follow the sound of drums...
all the best
A

About 50% of the time I see the thread title, I think the same; the other 50% I have an irresistible urge to append "with Green Shield Stamps"...
Hey there everyone,
Went along last night to see TBE and TOBE (The Other Boy Edwards aka Gary) do their thing and it was great evening.
As the main aim of the "event" was to promote Kiddy College's Music Performance course (of which TBE is now head!!!) it wasn't like a "normal " clinic, and instead was split between TBE playing some tracks (Bollywood Drum Mania, Pocket Sun), an interactive part (where he got the assmebled crowd to "play" in 3/4 time and then embelished this by playing a "music thorugh the ages" track which consisted of stuff right from early swing and big band through to modern day tracks) , and some explanation and plugging of the college, course etc.
Then TOBE gave a really thought-provoking short lecture on the formula for success, and how the ingredients required for success related to the course modules. I say thought provoking because, as anyone who has seen TBE's Big Bash DVD will know, TOBE is a very clever guy and puts somes quite complicated theories over in such a way as to make them understood and reasoned.
Suffice to say if I was 16/17 again I would be kicking the doors down to get a place on the course and TBE is clearly in his element working with both the practical side of music performance and the more intellectual concepts which I think will give their students an edge over many of their peers in a few years time.
All in all, a great night, and from speaking to TBE afterwards, certainly not the last of these tyoe of events he is looking to stage. I would urge anyone that can make any future events to do so, enjoy some great music, great playing and who knows, even expand your minds.
