Title: Esoteric Snowman - The Peel - November 7th
Post by: Pedro on November 10, 2009, 06:39:39 AM
Hi,

I've pruned out a rather loud crowd 'whoop' but apart from that you can now view :-

Jem's Esoteric Snowman duet with Peter Gabriel (//http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Km7M9kG5Ino)

in its entirety.

Nice one, Jem! :)

Marvellous - wish I could have been there.

If "Frostfest/Philadelphia Experiment" sees the light of day next year, what with Jem's house move and all (I'm not being greedy, as some stuff in life is more important), I wouldn't half mind having this is a bonus mp3. Or even popped into the Toys section here one day in the future. Fantastic version.

Wish I could have been at the gig, but you can't have it all!

David

Wow! Very Peter Gabriel'esque.

A bit of a panicky sound in the first verse though. With the whole marimba thing + piano going on. But I'll blame it on the sound quality. Jem would never let anyone down with creating new Snowman versions. :P

Tinyfish's drummer Leon has said before that the lighting at The Peel (apart from sounding like a continual air-raid siren) interferes with D-Beam controllers a bit. So controlling the filtering and hitting the pads at the right time and remembering the words and defending the vocoder from the Martians...all in front of such a hungry crowd...even with a brain the size of PlanetFrost*, it's still brown-trouser time!

Marvellous stuff!

As a massive Gabriel and Genesis fan, I think that was my highlight of the evening. Superb. Thanks Pedro for allowing me to relive it (and see what Jem was actually doing!)

I couldn't actually see Jem's D50 from where I was stood, so thank you Pedders for revealing what he was doing with his hands under the Fantom that was causing him to pull those rather interesting expressions.

Thanks again Pedro  :D   I am loving seeing these.

But did I hear people talking whilst this was playing???       :x   Whoops are very right, having a conversation in the quiet bit is very wrong.  Can we have the whoop version too?

I was hoping and praying that someone had taken footage of this as it was, for me, the hairs-rising-on-the-back-of-the-neck standout moment of Leeds. So thanks ever so Pedders. I knew I could rely on you! ;)

We had the same problem at Leeds. An they weren't having a quiet conversation either, they sounded like they were shouting through megaphones.
I think Batchain came to the rescue and enlisted the bouncers to eject said miscreants :D

No problem Sawtooth, mate.
Sometimes spoilers are worth begging for.  ;)

"Leeds" = "Birmingham"?

Here (//http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4a0tcnqLNk) is the first few seconds of the clip as it was before I cleaned it up. While the evening was totally about fun, some of the songs were jaw-droppingly beautiful and I just wanted there to be a record of this version of Snowman without someone hooting.
JM's take on Tall Ships was also stunning but I only got the first two minutes and the babble from the nob-'eads was heart-breaking.

They were the support acts mate's AFAIK, and they were VERY loud. So I just stood at the very front, sung my face off on what I knew and I couldn't hear them =) well, behind a very small lady. So practically at the front lol

Yeah they were very annoying...ignorant b*******s.

Btw that very small lady was probably Mrs M as she always gets to the front...and because of said smallness doesn't obstruct the view..unlike me. Which is why we hardly ever stand together at gigs...which is probably to her liking  :?  ;)

It was a beautiful version. I love the way Snowman keeps getting reworked in so many different ways, but somehow manages to retain its identity in all of them. A superb composition. I hope I can write something like that someday.  :)

Yes, specifically 'Fly on a Windshield'... you also need Peter Gabriel 4 (Security)!

:-)

Thanks =) I did some googling and found Fly on a Windshield =)

Is that the best 'first' Peter Gabriel album? I've only really heard the 'hits' as such  :)

Talking about Peter Gabriel, I went for a long walk with my dog earlier this very cold evening and listened to PG's "So" album from beginning to end on my iPod.  It was the first time in years that I had heard the album and it is just so amazing.  How brilliant are the tracks "Red Rain", "Sledgehammer", "That Voice Again" and of course, "Big Time". They really took my breath away.

Yeah, I officially love you guys. Bought this yesterday, sat down at about eleven and clicked play on 'The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway' and my first listen to this album ended sometime early this morning. AMAZING! Thanks

Great! It is a truly amazing album from beginning to end.

I think PG4 (Security) and PG3 ("Melt") are tied for best early-PG album, can't go wrong with either of these!

I have PG1 - 3 (and thus confesses to not owning anything more recent by PG apart from Ovo - The Millennium Dome Show soundtrack) and I haven't listened to them for at least two and half yonks. Should address that really cos I really liked them all and particularly because I was in his back yard at the weekend and it would be rude not to....now where did I put that gramophone....
