Hello, happy to say I can now confirm the "P" for our Defence Of The Realm at Summer's End will be the fantabulous Pete Trewavas. We've been chatting on and off for quite a while now about sharing a stage together and the planets have finally aligned. I'm properly excited.
What with Unto Us AND Tinyfish, it's gonna be a seriously proper good night out. 8-)
News on the final "J" soon!
40 views, and no one's said anything... I guess we're all speechless!!! :o :D
Blimey!
Well this is only my first view of it and I'm tempted to look away, rub my eyes and look again!
Maybe that's what is going on? :)
This is an extremely welcome development in my book. As I've said elsewhere, I've not had much to do with Marillion for yonks and not seen them live so The Whirlwind and the making-of DVD was my first real chance to encounter "TBT" properly and I was muchly impressed.
You're right, Sir J, this will be a (k)night to remember.
I bet you're not telling but I wonder if we are talking "defence of the realm" in a joustery sort of way or a "Don't panic Mr. Mainwaring" sort of way? :)
Do you think he knows any Kino songs?
And there was me thinking the 'P' was the Peter Gabriel-on-a-stick!
Awesome. I'll bring me camera :)
Tré cool!
So.... no Nathan?
:?
(Yes, I know his name doesn't start with J or P.)
Level 42 has some touring lined up, I believe.
As for the third J, I'm thinking Johnny Boyes or John Beck. Seems logical, given the songs to be played. Besides, with Jem's love of beer and wine, I'm fairly certain his contract states that he will play no venue without at least 2 Johns.
Grrrr ... you know how to annoy a man, Jem, when he's very unlikely to be able to make it to Summer's End.
Been a while for me too since I kept close to things Marillion, but I can say I was there closer to the start. First gig I saw with them was April 27, 1982 (thank you //http://www.morain.de/marillion_setlists_1980_-_1988.html), at Edinburgh University Chambers Street Union, and to this day, I swear there were more people in the band than in the audience :D
Not that that was a bad thing as such; quite something to be about a foot in front of Fish when he gives it full "Forgotten Sons" laldy (look it up ;) )
In passing, thanks again to the Marillion obsessives out there, I see that Pete T had joined the band just three weeks earlier. So I really was there near the start, in the present context ...
All the more annoying that I won't be there in 2010, it seems.
:o I'm rather jealous of all the lucky Frosties that are going to see this, hopefully some kind soul will take a viddycamera with them!
I reckon the third J will be this guy.

Heh! Or possibly Jim Morrison or Janis Joplin on vocals (well, equally as likely).
I'm wondering if, as we now have a keyboard player, a guitarist and a bass player, all of whom can sing (well, Pete tries hard in Transatlantic, bless him. ;) ) and this is supposed to be "in proper loud, proud, amped up and ready to go full band mode", aren't we looking for a drummer as the final J?
Or is that too traditional?! :D
Like TA, I'm just really annoyed that I won't be able to make it...
Edit: Oooh! I'm a Tunnocks Caramel Log now - class!
This is an excellent excuse to buy a gas mask and fly to England!
Wait
:(

grats, D S!!!
Grats indeed, DS. :)
Well done, DS!
Some are born to be Tunnocks Caramel Logs, some achieve Tunnocks Caramel Log-ness, and others have Tunnocks Caramel Logs thrust upon them. But achieving the rank of Tunnocks Caramel Log through one's own endeavours is always a proud moment.
I had a hunch it might be PT. Looks like I need to sort another baby sitting date!
Great to see the Frost machine in action, this year will be my first chance to see them (I was a little late to the Frost party...ahem).
Anyone know when the tickets are released for this??
Feel a trip south coming on in early October..........................
Anyone know any drummers beginning with J?

Errm, Catherine ... are you all right? ;)
Could it be Julie Burke? ;)
Jar Jar Binks

How wooed!
i'm not sure Pete is a good idea given that you are holding the gig in a WW2 bunker type thing... he does tend to bounce and a head injury is surely inevitable :D
Jason Bonham? lol

Fine thanks, TA. Good of you to ask.

Oh yes... that would be superb.
He could play drums and sing about the dangers of processed turkey products at the same time. It'd be ace.

Glad to hear it. There was a minute there, in part 3 of your "ways to become a TCL", that I thought I sensed a cry for help

Don't you find it ironic how he did that whole school dinner campaign and now he's on that advert eating sausages? ;)
I am very, very excited about this!
Now. Where can one actually find a gas mask? (:-)
Quote from: "LivingForever"Anyone know any drummers beginning with J?
*ponders*Well, I do know of one...
Nah.
Maybe Jem's just forgotten to ask me....
I know who it is...

Jimmy from the Beard perhaps?
Quote from: "flamadiddle"Jimmy from the Beard perhaps?
Ooohh! now
that sounds plausible :)
Jem: "Nick, could you come over and play drums for us in October?"
Nick: "Sorry mate, I'm busy with Cirque du Soleil; but I know a man who can..."
Dagnabbit, I just did another Summers End announcement without realising that the P had been revealed. Gives me something to witter about next time, I suppose.
I can confirm that the J is a drummer, and not Jamie Oliver...I'm told he doesn't consider Prog to be "pukka" enough for him...
Right, as for ticket sales, the basic principle will be the same as last year. Towards the end of May we'll put 2 and 3 day tickets on sale, which means that those supporting the whole (or main part of the) festival get first dibs on the tickets. Then later in June we'll put day tickets - including Friday - on sale.
As with Mr Hackett last year, the capacity of the venue on the Friday will be slightly higher than the Saturday and Sunday.
If that makes sense...

Is that because the hardcore proggers will have drunk so much beer that their bellies will have expanded by Saturday and Sunday, and you can't fit as many of them in?
Essentially...yes!
Actually, we prefer to give those hanging around all day on Sat and Sun a more comfortable viewing experience. We don't give a buggery about Friday!!! ;)

There's nothing wrong with a good sausage...
I may have registered my reaction elsewhere on the Interwebs, but hoo yeah! Faberatasticanny! Very, very happy about this! :D
Methinks I shall have to attend :)
