Or more simply whos wearing what?
Both myself, mouse and my partner are sorting suitable WW2 era attire for the night. I may overheat greatly but its a worthy cause!
Anyone else thinking of taking up the challenge?
I'm investigating options at the moment - intending to do something but need a trip to an army surplus store in the next couple of weeks.
Have found a few fancy dress options via the web too so will check out a couple of local places. 8-)
We are still mulling the options for the ladies!
Gravy browning and drawn on stocking seams may be going a bit too far. But there is the Waafs, land girls etc.

Crikey! Won't you be drawing/painting on any other garments? There might be a riot....or an overwhelmed Casualty department....all those ageing proggers... ;)
I saw on Twitter that some of the more connected Prog-ladies have procured uniforms from car-boot sales etc. I think others have current uniform through involvement with cadets etc.
Plus of course, Catherine has her/his rather splendid RAF moustache....
I admire such dedication. :)
My partner can't decide but may go for the 40's look but with real stockings rather than the drawn on variety.
Only time will tell! ;)

Prog ladies in Uniforms! :o Stockings :o :o O my word! 8-)
So far I have a gas mask and a greatcoat in the inventory.
Catherine does indeed have a rather splendid moustache, but at present she and the moustache are not certain if they will be able to make it due to transport issues - if anyone's interested in travelling with the moustache (it's completely house trained) from the Cambridge area, please PM me...
I have the merest hint of a nascent idea about this... investigations need to be made.
Go for it. You know it makes sense! ;)

The resulting vector to the end point would mean you transitioning the land of brom dont'cha know. This is FYI only, not trying to cadge as I was panning my own sortie, but it could be interesting? ;)
Could be a deal, Brom, but only as long as you wear the stockings...
I am struggling to find a proper uniform. I've now got my mum's friends going through their wardrobes to find something suitable. Gives them something to do!
I doubt I'll be dressing up Octobers a busy month and it's just an extra expense that I can't justify, as well as Lydney in October I will be going to two gigs in Bristol, 2 in Groningen (that in the Netherlands) a trip to Berlin, depending on rugby fixtures a possible trip to Toulon in the South of France and I could be working for a website at the final MotoGP race of the season in Valencia (Spain) the first weekend in November.
Quote from: "Pedro"I think others have current uniform through involvement with cadets etc.
:)
ok - will definitely wear it as everybody seems to be playing
(and for your information it is regulations to wear stockings....)
I believe I just became the proud owner of a WW2 gas mask on eBay.
My only concern is the impact it may have on my drinking!
Well, you could just take it off for a drink or three. ;)
....or adapt it so you fill it with drink? ;)
@Ashleaze: Hmm....I wonder if General Godfrey and Admiral Mitchell will be conducting a rigorous inspection? ;)
I've decided I will be wearing something.
The alternative, believe me, would be horrendous to contemplate.

Wouldn't tights with a black line along the back of the leg be more in keeping ? They tell me it's what ladies used to do in the war.
Tights? In the war? Stockings, surely?
Tights? You're voting for tights instead of stockings?
I thought wartime was only stockings anyway?
Tights? Shirley you mean stockings. Twas wartime after all.

It's already got a long tube, see, you're half way there already, lol.
I am not putting gravy on my legs and drawing a line down the middle for anybody!!!
Quote from: "Sarah"I am not putting gravy on my legs and drawing a line down the middle for anybody!!!
Not worth me coming down all that way if I don't get a lick at the gravy ;)
I've got some plans for this. I just hope I can afford it (and remember to put it together) in time!
Im sorted!
Partner is still undecided what to wear. Its a fine line between. Of the era wear or it starts to turn a bit naughty/suggestive  if you know what i mean?
If the Star Wars convention people don't point and mock, you're not trying hard enough.
Brace yourselves chaps!
Tan seamed stockings purchased by my partner, just the rest of her gear to get!
QuoteIf the Star Wars convention people don't point and mock, you're not trying hard enough.
Nah, if the Trekkies think you're a bit odd, then you KNOW you've made enough of an effort!!!!! :D
Of course in the war (so I'm told, I'm not THAT old!) the ladies used tea or gravy and had to draw the line in eyebrow pencil, unless of course they knew any nice American gentlemen who could provide stockings. Any Americans coming over?
Don't go near the American sevicemen.
They are will all be handing out chocolate bars, cigarettes, and silk stockings to all the ladies.
You won't see your ladies again, mark my words you wont!
Ooh, will there be nice American servicemen there? With chocolate? It just gets better!

My attire is now full and correct, just need to book somewhere to stay!
The Summer's End website has a few suggestions and links to all that, matey.
I'm still wondering how to get hold of some suitable clothing...
Can I just say again how much I love and appreciate that you fine people are doing the costume thing. You really are a bunch of wonderful wonderful loonies and you make my world a lovely place. xxxx
:D
Quote from: "Fogeyspasm"My attire is now full and correct, just need to book somewhere to stay!
Likewise! Kinda. I've got a couple of ideas for the attire, might augment it a bit. Definitely the latter, though.
I was originally considering just waking up around 5pmish, finding something to do around Lydney after the gig (possibly just having a nap on a park bench), then catching an early train back to Cheltenham. I've since realised that's a f'ing stupid idea.
Tried it all on last night. I may have made a slight error in my choice of garb. A sheepskin flying jacket, scarf, flying helmet, goggles and oxygen mask are somewhat warming after even a few minutes wear!
Heres hoping for a very cold hall or i shall forever be known as the stripping airman.
I foresee that at somepoint there will be some serious garb removal going on as my core temp reaches critical!
Seems like i joined the forum at the right time, all this talk of tights and suspenders.
Now can i do an article on my website incorporating all this nylon.
Iam sure i can :D

Ahh i have been caught red handed
Hi Adrian!
Please, for a German: what exactly does "Defence Of The Realm Attire" mean? Something to do with clothes?
The posters from the other thread rule, btw. The red one would make a cool red shirt. I'd buy it immediately.
The other one could be a light blue (without the village).
Quote from: "Nellie"Hi Adrian!
Hi Nellie nice to see you on here as well,we are naughty.... :D
howdy, todders!
As you may guess from the posters, there's a "rather British" feel to the concept.
So if you have ever seen or heard of the TV show "Dad's Army" (a ragged bunch of part-time soldiers "defending" a sleepy little town) you might get a flavour of what the Summer's End audience could look like.
There will be a mixture of actual military uniforms, flying helmets, bomber jackets, tin hats, etc.
Quote from: "rogerg"howdy, todders!
Howdy Roger good to see you on here as well..
take care
Welcome HL.
Have a pleasant stay in our fine and slightly wonderous world.
Its slightly random, buts thats random in a good way!
We may get some land girls and some Waafs or nurses if we are lucky at Summers End.
Theres always an opening for some Bevan boys and a few field workers although it may be hard explaining to the local constabulary why you need a pitchfork with you at a gig!
Arr, that'll be fer tunin', officer. :)
My famous flying jacket, white silk scarf, suitable trousers, and an Airfix Spitfire 1a instruction leaflet hanging out of my pocket...
Anyone got a hat and goggles going spare?

Hi Adrian, welcome to the wonderful world of Frost*ies. Not sure what took you so long. I do find it weird that there are some fishtankers that are still not Frost*ies :? And vice versa. C'mon Frost*ies get over to the tank.
With regards to my Defence of The Realm Attire, I will need to do some serious dieting if I am going to fit into my old cadet uniform. I couldn't fit in it before my holiday and two weeks of stuffing my face with kebabs and cocktails has resulted in an additional half a stone! Maybe I won't bother as I think it would be far too warm to wear it anyway.
Ashleaze it will too warm you are right for a uniform.. Holidaying does tend to hit anyones waistline,i have been on a diet for two months lost a stone, should be at my target weight for summers end. then again it will all go to pot at lydney beer@chips
outfit in the post, seamed stockings already got, can't wait

welcome, kitty!

and chick needs to watch out for pudcat. who knew our little forum was so dangerous?
I'm being very careful around here nowadays...
I have a new jacket! It's not too far off looking like one of those RAF bomber dealies, so I just need to aquire a Biggles-style helmet and a pipe, and I'll be good to go. Tally-ho!
i'm a nice pudcat - i dont chase mices or chicks and i hope prog dog don't chase me
Quote from: "pudcat1"i'm a nice pudcat - i dont chase mices or chicks and i hope prog dog don't chase me
Nah! I likes cats, trouble is they all run away from me cos of the bad rep us canines have with the moggies :)
I have seen this Mouse jacket up close. 'Tis very cool!
Anyone sourced any reasonably priced gear for the DotR fancy dress??
Have found a few bits on t'bay around the £30-35 mark but not sure on the quality. I've tried to find some good old fashioned Army surplus stores too, but without much luck..................
I have gone into the loft today and got my old uniform out.
It's a tad on the tight side shall we say.
I guess I have the following options...
1) wear it and not be able to breathe or move
2) lose a stone in two weeks (yeah right)
3) go to Camden town and see if I can find anything 4ft 11 wide and 4ft 11 tall
4) just wear Frost* tshirt and jeans
5) adapt it - ie wear my cap (cos my head isn't bigger) and just the shirt with some black trousers
no 5 it is.
Sorted. :D
It seems that the 6' 5" x 6' 5" options are even more rare.
Option 4 looms...as do I?
you're not 6'5 wide anymore and I wouldn't say you loom...
I've got mine now - just waiting for it to come in the post... and then to perform a couple of custom modifications on it and I'll be sorted! :D
Pedro, get yourself a tin hat at least! ;)
I can let him have a false moustache as well. There - sorted! :D
Still have not got tickets - now there is a clash with family stuff. 50/50 at this point.
I have my attire and the baking tray is prepared. :D
Woolton Pie and Mock Goose?
Oooh, Mock Goose pie.... mmmmmm....
Anyway.
I've gone from "just be there Friday" to "bugger I'm completely broke and can't afford to go at all" to "Ooh look! A ticket for the weekend and someone to share a room and car with!"
I'm really not sure if I can find appropriate attire in <2 weeks and zero (or negative) budget though...
I'll have a spare moustache...
Mein Kostüm ist heute angekommen. Jetzt bin ich bereit für die Verteidigung des Reiches. Achtung!
Having seen Nellie's tweet regarding the wave of merch, I'm now torn between paying for the costume or some merch (which will obviously get more wear) :?
I'm going to have to be a boring old fart and come in regular clothes - we're a bit broke until Karin gets paid from her new job, and the tickets, fuel and hotel are more than enough outlay for one gig...

Don't worry you won't be the online one in civvy's :)
You could always wear your demob suit. You know the one. The one lurking at the back of the wardrobe for the last 5 years!
I'm going to scavenge the town looking for headwear tomorrow and Monday. I hope to at least aquire some kind of pipe. At least I have the jacket. Chocks away!

This is what you need, Mouse - a licorice one.

You can always eat it once you've finished with it as well.
And everyone will crowd round you wanting a nibble of your pipe!

Make that 2. WE caould always say we're Secret Police, MI6, or something
Had a slight stroke of luck wandering around Leicester today with Son of Pedro, looking for somewhere to buy the last few bits and pieces for his Uni flat.
Stumbled onto a shop called "Irish" which appeared to be an outdoor gear shop (boots, skater gear, rucksacks, etc.) but one of the window displays had some military gear in it...and one or to items had price tags on....
Inside we discovered the Military Basement which was crammed with loads and loads of stuff from all the forces it seemed.
Quite a lot was a bit pricey but there were some reasonably priced items to be had.
So, if the last-minute desparation plan I hatched yesterday falls through (still only bothering with head gear), I will have an alternative hat! Phew!
:)
I have a Russian paratrooper's hat in my possession! It's quite snug and it muffles my hearing, so I definitely won't be wearing it when music is being played, but it'll do. :)

This might prove to be controversial, but I don't like licorice...
It's a filthy habit....but it takes allsorts....
Well I am nearly sorted for DOTR.
As previously declared, I can't get any actual military garments in my size or that will not result in me melting (My miltary-style "FROST*" T-shirt will be good enough)....so it is just headgear for me. I had two plans and they'll both work. :)
Things just require a small amount of customisation to get them to pass muster.
I'm also working on an additional item that seems appropriate at such celebrations of national pride.
I'm afraid it'll probably be civvies or at least regular Frost* attire for the Isle of Wight contingent too, unless we have some fortuitous last minute luck.
Mucho looking forward to it all the same.
Well im sorted, maybe a last minute comedy moustache to buy, but ready for action. (Damn i will need to shave to get it to stick due to my "designer stubble" or to put it correctly "Can't be ar*ed shaving stubble"
Still got some overheating issues though
I'm sorted, but I'm a bit concerned about the (apparently authentic) trousers that are part of the uniform. I've never seen or worn a pair like them before. It takes about 10 mins to button myself into them so I'll not be drinking much over the course of the evening...
I'll probably have a number of spare moustaches with me as I've got a pack of 12...
can't wait to see all the pictures!!! and we so wish that we could be there in person! but we'll be there in spirit!!
rawk!!
It matters not what I'll be wearing as I won't be there!!
I'm totally Peeeeed off. There is a family "do" at the same time and I have not ben successful in trying to get out of it. I'll be jealously thinking of you all!
Catherine can i relieve you of a moustache?
My real life one may not be upto the job!
Sure! I'll be the worried-looking one in the false moustache and strange trousers...
Quote from: "catherine"I've never seen or worn a pair like them before.
Can we logically conclude then Catherine that you have at some time worn trousers that you have never seen. ;)

As you were so kind to help me by buttoning my cufflinks, it's only fair that I offer my assistance........

I might just take you up on that.
Having given up being able to find anything on a budget of zero, I might just have come up with an idea.
I shall need to make a foray in the morning then we'll see.
I'm soooo looking forward to pics!! Please make sure that you get a nice group shot, will ya? 8-)
Sorry to hear you can't make it, Brom. Maybe you'll get to the one at The Peel in December?
As for everyone who is going, I shall see you all tomorrow. I will be sans Mr. Prog, but sporting my lovely new Frost*ed avatar. I hope I can get some sleep! :D
see you tonight :D :D
Oh, by the way, I don't suppose anyone has any spare goggles I could borrow, have they? I'll have to scramble to try and find a white scarf in the morn'.
Only swimming goggles, which I suspect are Not The Goggles You Are Looking For.
As I've said before I can't make it so hope you all have a really good time and enjoy the mayhem.
BASTARDS! :D
+1! Due to bad planning, I'm heading off to the other end of the country altogether (up to the Highlands for a week) so have a good time all of you and I hope to see lots of photos and vids when I get back.
Chocks away and remember - keep calm and Mellotron! 8-)
I'm sooooo jealous of you lot who are attending tonight! Several factors have dictated that I couldn't get to Summers End this year (not least that it's Mrs Saw and myself's 25th wedding anniversary this weekend). So i'd just like to say to Jem and his fellow aeronauts 'break a leg' and to all the Frosties 'have a jolly good time - tally ho!'
Take plenty of pictures and videos will ya?
Sawtooth x
Grats on the silverware matey! :) You'll be missed of course.

Truth be told, I'm completely unfamiliar with the back catalogues of all the bands except Frost*. I should work on this, though. Cracking gig.
I've read "Afraid of Sunlight" was in there somewhere. What else? What else?!
Set List
There were I think at least 4 Kino songs which included Letting go, Losers Day Parade (Encore) and Holding On. I think some of the songs must have been Marillion, would love to know the titles but I'm not au fait with post-Fish era.
Not very much Frost really but The Dividing Line and BLM definitely there.
Great gig (and my first post!)
Welcome to the forum, Protocapsule! Sounds like they did well enough to lure at least one new person over here. :D
The other kino track was keep a light on and the two marillion tracks were afraid of sunlight and the space. Don't know if Blunders phil collins gorilla drum fills count as a track though. You had to be there to understand what I mean. Think cadburys milk chocolate ad with gorilla mask!
Managed to survive the whole gig in all the flying gear due to willpower and a stiff upper lip.
Nearly melted though!
Took a few photos and a bit of video. Will post monday.
Nice to meet everyone again. See u all at the dvd shoot and Manchester!

The Soldier of Fortune you mention is called "Camouflaged in Blue" it's part of the track All of The Above by Transatlantic
I saw a picture of him with the gorilla mask and wondered what that was all about![/quote]
During the show the phone rings and they, being true gentlemen, stop the show to answer it. For the 2J's and an A show it was Andy. Pearls of wisdom (?) are then discussed, which is really funny
For this show the 'guest phone call' (which is bits of recordings of interviews) John was 'chatting' with Phil Collins about his solo albums
At the end of one of the sequences, unknown to John, Blunders had put on the Gorilla mask and gave us the Cadbury Chocolate advert drum solo
Great night, made more memorable by all those who dressed up. How the hell you lot survived I have no idea.
It was bloody hot enough without wearing leather flying jackets
I was worried that I might not be warm enough in my Kriegsmarine attire, and almost wore a t-shirt under it - I was so glad I didn't as I think I would have melted!

I suggest you salute him next time you see him as he really is a super top bloke. :D
