Title: Jem, PLEASE put me out of my misery!!
Post by: Geddy Lee on November 20, 2008, 08:37:06 PM
ok two things.....

1) When do we get the lyrics

and

2) Just what is the title of the "hidden" or not so hidden track at the end of the album?

If I don't get the answers to these 2 life or death questions I may never be able to play bass in Rush ever again. And that just would never do.
By the way....do you like soup?

I thought the answer to #2 was, in fact, "Secret Song".  I've been known to be gobsmackingly wrong before though.

Well its been known as that for quite a while. I'm currently thinking it is "Remember Me" but it could equally be called "Don't Worry" or "John Kettley is a Weatherman (//http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Kettley)"

Interesting, the song reminds me of Take Me Home by Phil Collins - partly the melody, but also the way it builds up. Regardless, its a wonderful song :)

Well never mind that. I wonder about the soup question!

Yes, soup!! You just have to have the soup. Everyone knows that surely?!

As for the other 2 questions.....just listen to the roaring silence.

Here's my best attempt, I used eponymous' lyrical interpretation for Toys, Pocket Sun (with Pedro's correction), for Falling Down I used what was in the forum here, and the rest I did the best I could!

Experiments In Mass Appeal

I don't care if you don't mind
Modern life's the mocking kind
But tell me how I came to be
Memory to my enemy

Of all the things you want to be
The earth beneath the industry
And ideal and an innocence
The moral and the consequence

Core desire
Oh it's a real life wire
Setting my life on fire
Oh it's unreal

Forever, immortally
Endeavour, a god I'll be
Remember, reality
I'm not the one who owns me

Victims of demography
Just product in a category
Testing what you think and feel
Experiments in mass appeal

Core desire
Oh it's a real life wire
Setting my life on fire
Selling my soul for a lie
Oh it's unreal

Forever, immortally
Endeavour, a god I'll be
Remember, reality
Forever, immorally

Forever, immortally
Endeavour, a god I'll be
Remember, reality

Forever, immorally
Endeavour, a god I'll be
Remember, reality

Welcome To Nowhere

Life unreal, the feeding of the fear
An error of creation
No love left in here
And I see you falling out from far
United in division
Defy everyone
It's all a game
The hurting and the healing
But still the same
You leave us nothing
Nothing at all

Caught in the process
A mass operation (or abhoration)?
Victims of progress
A new taste of nature
God of small empire
This numb masturbator
Pissing his life into plastic in paper

Closing time for life

Welcome to nowhere with me
It's in your head
Dead man, fire ahead
I'm burning through your walls of love

Stat's (?) room objector
You bile carbonator
Sickened life savior
Still feeling a failure

Closing time for life

Welcome to nowhere with me
It's in your head
Dead man, fire ahead
I'm burning through your walls of love

I'm a flame
The hurting and the healing
But all the same
You leave us nothing

Welcome to nowhere with me
It's in your head
Dead man, fire ahead
I'm burning through your walls of love

Welcome to nowhere with me
It's in your head
Dead man, cold head
I'm burning through your walls of love
I'm burning through your walls of love

Pocket Sun

Feels like over
Feels like over

I've got this window on my wall
When she lights up I see it all
The now and then, the yet to be
So I get a fare 'round the world, free.

Lost in time, lifeline
You're all I want
This time, rewind
All come undone, my pocket sun

Feels like over
Feels like over

I went to Rome and watched it burn
Once 'round the world with Mr. Verne
I've fallen off my family tree.
Now my great-granddaddy is me

Lost in time, lifeline
You're all I want
This time, rewind
All come undone, my pocket sun

Lost in time, lifeline
You're all I want
This time, rewind
All come undone
In time, lifeline
You're all I want
This time, rewind
All come undone
My pocket sun

Saline

If I say why, will you cry to please me?
Tell me lies, fail to try
Say goodbye, it's easy

Eyes cry, tears dry
Tongues tie, release me
Blue sky, mind's eye
Do or die, appease me

Fine, chill in mine
And I don't know if I can believe in all the lies
Cause if I
And I don't know if I can survive the feeling
Losing all that's mine

A beauty cut from me
Setting free, deceiving
Leaven be, lost at sea
Absentee, you're grieving

Fine, chill in mine
And I don't know if I can believe in all the lies
Crucify
And I don't know if I can survive the feeling
Losing all that's mine

Oh, hold the wall
Shallow call
Doubt us all
Face the wall
Lovers fall
Face the wall
Burns us all (?)

Fine, chill in mine
And I don't know if I can believe in all the lies
Crucify
And I don't know if I can survive the feeling
Losing all that's mine

I won't be the
Good for nothing
I won't be the
Same old feeling
I won't be the
One you turn to
I won't be the
Phase you go through

(I've been feeling so many, for nothing) (?)
[I couldn't really tell what the harmony was singing, but boy is it beautiful!!!]

Good for nothing

Dear Dead Days

Home
The violence of your name
Still soothes me all the same with echoes of my past
Safe surroundings meant to last

Everybody got an explanation
For a world that has lost sensation
Nothing saves the feelings
We forgot to feel

Welcome to the family
Alone now you belong to me
Your life will be my property
I'll redefine your sanity

Dear Dead Days
Won't define us, and define us
From those yesterdays,
That remind us, we're the same in every way

Safe and sound, beside you
Hide you from them, the real deride (?) you, let me tie you in
Everybody got a desperation, for the girl in a situation
Headline sightings, feelings we forgot to feel

Welcome to the family
Alone now you belong to me
Your life will be my property
I'll redefine your sanity

Dear Dead Days
Won't define us, and define us
From those yesterdays,
That remind us, we're the same in every way

This life I have, I give to you
These thoughts I have, they're all for you
These things you said, I know they're true
There's no one else, no one but you

Look outside
Feels like real life
My sky, eyes wide
Too wired to cry
You run, you hide
You taste suicide
Sunshine, profiled
Beguiled, defiled
Revived

Dear Dead Days
Won't define us, and define us
From those yesterdays,
That remind us, we're the same in every way

Falling Down

Life, it all became too much
It's easier to run
An early warning sign
Take arms and charge the line

Four reasons, I told you lies
Four reasons, why we won't touch eyes
Four reasons, unsatisfied
Four reasons, always there inside

I feel I'm falling down
I feel I'm falling down

There's nothing left here to say now
Falling down
Let's put our secrets away now
Falling down
Stop getting hope in the way now
Falling down
We'll lose it all any day now
Falling down
No meaning left in the sound now
Falling down
I'm giving back what I found now
Falling down
I'm heading back to the ground now
Falling down
Not getting up till I break down

Love, I cut a lonely soul
On shards of broken hearts
Outlines of those I lost
Take time and count the cost

Four reasons, I told you lies
Four reasons, why we won't touch eyes
Four reasons, unsatisfied
Four reasons, left me dead inside

I feel I'm falling down
I feel I'm falling down

Time will justify
Like birds must fall to fly

I feel I'm falling down
I feel I'm falling down

There's nothing left here to say now
Falling down
Let's put our secrets away now
Falling down
Stop getting hope in the way now
Falling down
We'll lose it all any day now
Falling down
No meaning left in the sound now
Falling down
I'm giving back what I found now
Falling down
I'm heading back to the ground now
Falling down
Not getting up till I break down

You/I

You talk
You think own me
You miss the point completely
These things I do they're not for you
I'm sick
I'm tired
Leave me alone

Toys

Hear and now, I'm a waterfall
Fall through me, I'll emulate your tears
See me now, I'm a superstar
Still shining, I'll burn you when you're near

Ego come and ego go
The odds say, "aye" but I say no
We should never be so far away again

Step right up and take the ride
East of easy watch as I go down now aground now
Sell your stock in jealous eyes
Take the shock of all the future crimes now
Wrap you up the toys are good to go

Love me now, I'm a looking glass
Convector, I'll amplify your fears
Fear me now, I'm an accident
A secret, I'll bother you for years

It's dog eat god in dog we trust
The steely season turned to rust
Carpet hides the guilty dust away again

Step right up and take the ride
East of easy watch as I go down now, aground now
Sell your stock in jealous eyes
Take the shock of all the future crimes now
Wrap you up and never let you go

Step right up and take the ride
East of easy watch as I go down now, aground now
Sell your stock in jealous eyes
Take the shock of all the future crimes now
Wrap you up the toys are good to go

Step right up and take the ride
East of easy, watch me go

Wonderland

Hero, touching down refugee from the ground
Say hello, dance along to the light and the sound

Hero, stealing hope from the words in your mouth
But fear grows, never far from the pain and the doubt

Lo-fi, are we lo-fi?
Lo-fi, are we lo-fi?

Feeding the life force of a Milliontown
Better settle down in a day
Doing the wrong thing is the best advice
Better get a life
Here I'm electrified, it's a wonderful feeling to be alive

Heat, it's alright it's alright
Take the heat, it's alright, it's alright

Hero, are you falling apart at the seams?
Just a zero, now you finally know what it means

Heat, it's alright it's alright
Take the heat, it's alright, it's alright

Secret Song

I'm drowning
Far out at sea
To far to chase the waves home
To deep to really see

I'm sending my thoughts to you
A message in a waveform
I hope that it get's through

And I'll be fine
Don't worry

I'm drifting
Human debris
Just one drop in the ocean
It's all I'll ever be

And I'll be fine
Don't worry

Remember me?

I'm falling
Beneath the sea
The tidal (?) in motion
Washing over me

I'm fading
Into the deep
The pressure equalizing
Rocking me to sleep

And I'll be fine
Don't worry

Remember me?

Been listening to the following a hell of a lot recently and I've had a little help too....

Sell your stock in jealouscide
Take the shock of all my future crimes now
Wrap you up the toys are good to go

Love me now, I'm a looking glass

I am still not sure about the 'jealouside' interpretation.  I keep hearing 'genocide' which ties up quite nicely with the 'future crimes' phrase in the next line.

On the other hand, given the misinterpretations, maybe the whole line is..

'Sell your sock with gel inside'?

Seeing as I'm in on my own tonight, I've been spending my evening watching the Making of EIMA Frost* Reports on the DVD.
In a Feb FR, Dec flashes 3 lyric sheets at the camera - Falling Down, Welcome to Nowhere and Toys... I've been a complete fanboy and freeze-framed (froze-framed?) them to see if we can answer any of the questioned words in the lyrics thus far deduced.

What I have is:

Falling Down:
- It's definitely "Four reasons", not "For reasons".
- The sheet says "Stop putting hope in the way now"; it still sounds like "getting", so I guess that changed.
- Ditto "Not getting(/waking) up till I break down"
- Ditto "Time(/Words) will justify"

Welcome to Nowhere
- It's "Dead man, firehand"
- A truly pedantic point: "You'll leave us nothing"

Toys
- Pedro done got it right :)
- Lyrics say "The eyes say "aye", the head say "no"" - it's definitely the mouth saying it though.

God, I'm a geek.

Now that's dedication, RacingHippo. I'd spotted the lyric sheets and considered doing that, but haven't yet had sufficient free time.  Nice work!

Excellent work on all that RH.
I must confess I had some help with "Toys" (eternal thanks added to the pile in Jem's Thanks Tank and also to The Radiant Dec) but that line continues to trouble me a tiny bit.

Despite what the printed words say my ears keep hearing two alternatives in the track itself :-

"The eyes say 'aye', but I say 'no'...."
....which strikes me as "clever" with three appearances of the "eye/aye/I" sound.

OR

"The eyes say 'aye', the mind say 'no'...."
....which is in keeping with the printed concept of the eyes fancying the person but the head warning against.

I know that people will soon say "who cares, it's just a good song, for pity's sake stop over analysing everything" and they would be right....up to a point....but when you are trying to get a visual to match the lyric, it does kind of matter....a bit....  ;)

Hey... Ol' Jem missed a trick there. He could have had:
"The eyes say 'aye', the nose goes 'no'"!

Quote from: "Pedro""The eyes say 'aye', the mind say 'no'...."
....which is in keeping with the printed concept of the eyes fancying the person but the head warning against.
Having stuck this through headphones, I'm fairly sure you're right with that.

Quote from: "Pedro"...when you are trying to get a visual to match the lyric, it does kind of matter....a bit....  ;)
And when you're belting it out at full volume in the car at eig^H a law-abiding 70mph, it helps to know you're belting the same thing out as Dec is.

About Saline...
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it "Find chill in mine" (or "mind" or even "mime" - still not sure what I hear there (see what I did with the here and the there? Ehrm, nevermind.)) the first two times and then changes to "Fine, chilled in mine/mind/whatever" the last time?

Re: Misteltoe & Wine - this song was one of the few my dear old Mum (RIP) chose as an example to try to explain to me some of the reasons why she couldn't get along with "modern music". She said; "the word 'fire' is a single syllable word - 'logs on the fi-yer' is just lazy writing". Maybe she had a point? She never really "got" prog....but she liked Wakeman (stories/jokes more than some of the music)....thanks to Countdown mostly!  :)

I went and put all the lyrics that have been "discovered" in this thread over at LyricWiki:

http://lyricwiki.org/Frost* (http://lyricwiki.org/Frost*)

If you see any updates I missed or anything, go ahead and edit them.

Also, I made some modifications to Dear Dead Days based on a) what Jem has said the song is about, and b) the words I heard myself when listening to a vocal-prominent mix (I reverse-phased the instrumental and mixed it into the original, so the music cancelled out, though not completely) Let me know what you think :)

I'm not quite agreeing with the Saline that's posted there either. What I hear is this:

If I say why, will you cry to please me?
Tell me lies, fail to try
Say goodbye, it's easy

Eyes cry, tears dry
Tongues tie, release me
Blue sky, mind's eye
Do or die, appease me

Find chill in mime
And I don't know if I can believe in all the lies
Calcify
And I don't know if I can survive the feeling
Losing all that's mine

Amputee cut from me
Setting free, deceiving
Leaven be,lost at sea
Absentee, you're grieving

Find chill in mime
And I don't know if I can believe in all the lies
Crucify
And I don't know if I can survive the feeling
Losing all that's mine

Oh, hold the wall
Shallow call
Doubters all
Face the wall
Lovers fall
Face the wall
Losers all

Fine, chilled in mime
And I don't know if I can believe in all the lies
Crucify
And I don't know if I can survive the feeling
Losing all that's mine

I won't be the
Good for nothing
I won't be the
Same old feeling
I won't be the
One you turn to
I won't be the
Phase you go through

Nah, I'm going to disagree.
It's "Leavin' me lost at sea". Deffo.

I mean, what the finagle does "leaven be" mean?
Maybe Dec had a cold when he sang it.

Or maybe it's "Kevin Bee", brother of the late, bisected Eric.

It's "chillin' wine" which is fine by me, as long as it's white.

I've never had a thing with lyrics. Sorry and all that, but I can know off by heart the lyrics to a song and literally years later I'll say to myself... oh, so that's what it's going on about. That's probably the reason that I like instrumentals and avoid so called "Singer- songwriters"  :D
