Upon casual scanning, i didn't notice any topics regard PRR. Due to the nature and the beauty of their music, i thought they would pop up somewhere on this forum.
Anyone have any opinions about 'em?
IMO: they (though not quite Frost* [of course]) are doing some pretty amazing things in the psuedo prog-pop-grunge genre. Very listenable and deceptively complicated in composition.
I like The Dark Third very much, especially The Bright Ambassadors Of Morning ;)
Ooh I like them, The Dark Third is great! Going to see them in April :D
I really like 'em. I've heard they can be aloof though.
I've not heard them but I do like Oceansize and Pineapple Thief - are they anything like these?
top band - go see them live - mysterious, moody and kick serious butt

Possibly more Oceansize than TPT. :?
Fairly grungy but with multi-part vocal harmonies. They
can sound a bit samey after a bit, but are definitely worth listening to. They're playing at Cargo on 28th Nov.

I love the internet. Within 1 minute of me clicking on that link I now own 'The Dark Third'. What times we live in...!
I also enjoy PRR. The Dark Third does get repetitious, but it also gets under your skin. My favorite track is "Goshen's Remains."
I quite like their style. Their multi layered vocal treatment is what got me into their music. The Dark Third is absolutely stunning. But I don't really compare them to Oceansize. The latter make much more aggressive music compared to PRR.
I love The Dark Third and saw them about 6 times in a very short space of time including supports to Blackfield and Oceansize. Fingers crossed for the new album, although the little of what I've heard so far doesn't sound that different from what they've done before. I met Chloe about two years ago thanks to Mrs Lacklight and she was extremely nice and even sorted me out a t shirt from the merchandise.
PRR are a top band. Shades of Beach Boys, Floyd etc. Very unique and beautifully executed. Wish I could get hold of their version of Gaudete though.
They were obviously considered to be "next big things" as the album was produced by Paul Northfield and he wouldn't come cheap but I think they may have been dropped from their deal and been picked up by Inside Out instead (which'll be better for them IMHO).
Anyway, they cool :-)
One of my favourite bands these days. I've discovered them by a concert of Porcupine Tree in Madrid (Spain). I downloaded their album The Dark Third before going to the concert, and I simply love it. A few weeks later, the original album was in my home.
They rock!

And also, they are very nice people :P

...And?
My boyfriend introduced me to them a while back. They have quite an individual sound.
PRR rocked in Aschaffenburg at the weekend. I couldn't see them at all owing to the preponderence of tall Germans but that just meant that I could concentrate on the sound, which from the back of the Colos-Saal was stunning. Much better than when I saw them in London last year

That concert was GREAT. Hello there fellow Spanish Frostie :D
Only just got round to listening to 'The Dark Third' today but loving it already, am definitely going to try and see these guys live next opportunity I get. Is that their only album?
There's only the one album and if you've got the 2cd version distributed by SPV, there's not a lot more you need to get. If you've only got the the 1cd version then there's a bit more material around on singles, mini albums etc.
I ended up getting the 2cd version even though I already had the 1cd because it rounded up most of the recorded material already out there.
tsk, am i going to have to listen to more new music? i dont think my aged ears can cope!

Yup, I'm afraid you have to. PRR is a must-hear band!
I think it's time to bump this topic.
Their new album, Amor Vincit Omnia is supposed to come out this March, however thanks to the internet it's already leaked.
Now, hate me for it or not, I usually download albums before I buy them to see if it's worth the purchase. Some bands are just flat out good enough to be worth purchasing anyway, such as Frost* :P But the point stands. I'm listening to it as I type this and it is pretty much amazing.
They changed their sound yet kept it the same. I think it'll go well with fans of Frost*. Much more electronic sounding than their last effort, more aggressive as well. The vocal melodies are incredible as well, but that is one of the defining qualities of the band anyway. Great music to chill out to, I could probably go on a long drive with this album playing and feel great. If only I could drive :(
Cool band, I have tickets for the upcoming tour.... I'll be at the Southampton show, any other Frost*ies going??

Norwich, perhaps. I know Bert has his tickets .

Affirmative. Looking forward to it.
You've gotta come JiB, otherwise I shall be forced to believe you only ever come out at Frost* gigs :-)

It's not happened at any of the Frost* gigs I've seen him at....

Well, I've arranged the time off work so looks like I might be coming out to play. :D

Excellent !! Pedders - no idea where you live but can you make it (I've not met you, but it can only be a matter of time :D ) ?
LOL
Sadly not I fear. Looks like our next giggage will be Magenta at Wath and/or The Robin (probably both).
Yet to see PRR but from what I have read (here mostly) over the years it is on my To Do list. :)
Will any Frost*ies be going to their Cologne-gig?

Well ok then....... promise. :?
Really looking forward to seeing PRR in Brighton next month, but this brings me to a question some of my fellow Frost*ies may be able to help me with.
Any idea where I can get a copy of Live at NEARFest without being horrendously raped with the appalling stirling/dollar exchange rate.
Put another way - is anyone or has anyone brought it into the UK.
Any ideas.
Oh my god... the album has leaked. Massive excitement! :D
Hoping I can make it to a gig too (funds permitting...)
For those interested: you can download the video from the German Rockpalast broadcast last year here: http://www.megaupload.com/de/?d=MJWSCHEH (http://www.megaupload.com/de/?d=MJWSCHEH) (675 MB).
Forgot to add: the video is 2 hours long. PRR plays 70 minutes, then a short interview (3 minutes). The rest is the gig from Rose Kemp from the same event.
Oh my god. This album is completely immense.
I don't think I was this impressed on a first listen since Milliontown.
Contrary to other opinions I've read, I really like what they done with the beats and synth sounds, it's given it a whole new fresh edge. I can see this being HUGE.
Been listening to this the last couple of days; it's making me think a lot as to how much I like it so I guess thats a good thing! Its pretty good and I definitely wouldn't turn it off if it came on the radio but sometimes the riffs don't quite come off for me (Deus Ex Machina is a bit...weird). Some of it is REALLY good though so thanks for the tip!
I HATE these talks about albums that are not out yet.
Oops, sorry! :(
You're in for a treat though IMO, the bad definitely outweighs the good although its taking a couple of listens to get it all in :D
I have now sorted things so I can get to the Reading and London gigs, in case anyone wants to avoid those venues on this tour ;)
Might see you in London... if I possibly can!
I'll be the one in the Frost* hoodie.
(note to self - either buy another hoodie, or buy another Frost* hoodie before this one gets worn out...)
What a strange gig last night...
Pure Reason Revolution were excellent, but got very little feedback from an audience who seemed to be there only for the support bands. When they announced the album was available to buy that evening...hardly a murmour. When they finished the applause from behind us mad prog types at the front was little more than a ripple, and people were leaving. Quite rightly, PRR chose not to do an encore - the drummer said afterwards they did not feel welcome. We told them to play The Peel instead !

Hopefully they will get a better reaction in Norwich tonight. We'll let you know.
Got the new CD (with DVD) today. :D Will listen to it later.
Excellent gig last night in Norwich and we got an encore! :D They played a good bit of the new album and live it's fantastic.
Some photos here. (//http://www.new.facebook.com/album.php?aid=20455&id=1179575202&l=e495d) They are a bit crap as the main lighting rig was about two candles and a torch.
I was there with m'colleague JiB and I can confirm that it was a top gig.
The new stuff whilst more "techno" driven still has that layer of gorgeous melody on top. Truly a "progression" from their last album. Also, some sections were as heavy as f**k.
They were also as tight as a gnats chuff and are a much more powerful proposition live than on record (although I've not heard the new one).
They deserve to be huge. I humbly highly recommend them to all constituents of this board.

Yeah.....what he said and was able to put far more eloquently than me. It's a shame that the vocals were totally swamped during the "heavier" sections but other than that it was fantastic. You would have thought it was one of the last shows of the tour given how tight the band were. I am rather impressed, they are one of those bands whose songs "come alive" when performed live. I'm so, so glad I went. :D
So Bert, since we live so close to each other how about we meet up, say in Leeds. LOL
off to york tonight... can anyone confirm they played "Bright Ambassadors of Morning" and was there any cool merch?

I was lagered though

I had only had a couple of pints but can confirm that Bert's memory did not fail him.
Suhweeet!! Here now having a pre gig pint :) Can't wait, I would travel for that song alone !

Enjoy. If they are playing the same set as at Norwich and Manchester you will get a goodly amount of the new album you lucky, lucky, lucky B(inset letters here to form appropriate word)
Well just got in to the travelodge of the PRR gig. Very impressive but with a lot of backing for 4 memberd. Although to be fair what else could they do?
Bought both CDs and a tshirt and also got one of the discs signed by the band. I was so convinced by the first two songs that they must have been using auto tune because their vocals were perfect. Absolutely spot on. The only thing that showed me otherwise was speech between songs and then chloe going out a bit because of monitor issues.
Overall a brilliant gig
Just to chime in and comment on the Southampton gig, the band played a great set which was well received by the audience, in fact Chloe commented that we gave them a better reception than their home town did :| . It was a hot gig, the band were sweating buckets, but played excellently, thoroughly enjoyable and they played my fave 'The Twyncyn / Trembling Willows' so can't complain!
The new CD/DVD digipak was purchased and has been enjoyed severally ;)
Great band.
Yes, it was the 'home town' gig I passed comment on, and I am glad they are having a go at it at other gigs - they were far too nice about it in their recent MySpace blog - I think my review sets the record straight lol
Hoping to get along to Leeds this week and then definite for Dingwalls - very excited about seeing them again.

You lucky bugger....... Hope you enjoy it. :D
If anyone is going to the Leeds gig tonight, I'll be the one on the Frost* hoodie...do come and say hello.
Finally got myself a copy of The Dark Third about a week ago and I'm really impressed. This album is one of the best I've heard in along time indeed.
I am seeing them again tomorrow, supporting The Boxer Rebellion at La Scala in London.
Bloody late to the party on this one, but only just made it to a record shop.
Blimey, how fab is 'Amor Vincit Omnia'. Never knew there was space for a band somewhere between Jellyfish, Nine Inch Nails and Plaid.*
Ms W - you have to hear this. But not for a few days at least!
(Edit: * and Steeleye Span)
