Title: News: Jem Godfrey *nearly* says Frost*
Post by: JakeWorrell on May 27, 2011, 08:06:30 PM
Quote from: "@JemGodfrey"I never said the spirit of the big F* was dead. :)
Definitely good news. I think the hint is that his new music might still have the spirit of Frost*.

Jem's on a train and its doing all sorts of funny things to his head:

Quote from: "@JemGodfrey"D'ya know what? Having heard the PRR album today and now the Hybrid album, maybe prog is breaking out of its cliched ghetto and progressing

Let's not get too excited though eh chaps and ladygents, but its nice to hear that Jem is still excited by Prog sometimes. Right, time to check out that Hybrid album...

LOL I think he also said that the PRR album is what a third Frost* album might sound like. But as you say, I think whatever Jem does will probably have some genetic links to previous stuff - the 'genius' chromosome! :D

Whatever Jem comes up with next, it won't be Frost* in that it won't be him, Nath, JM and Blunders.
Beyond that... who knows?
It'll certainly be "progressive", but that could mean anything!

Indeed... there's plenty of ActualProg about these days, along side the RetroProg... and there's nothing wrong with either, but I know what's always going to be more exciting to listen too (even if, some days, the retro side is more what you are in the mood for... :))

ActualProg - I like that  :D

Maybe retroprog doesn't actually deserve that name of genre as it hasn't actually progressed (apart from the stuff that actually did).

Maybe it should be retrogressive rock. :D

Oh, DROOOOLLL  "HYBRID" ..........  Loving them lately....   If any one person on this planet can redefine a Genre, Sir Godfrey Can...  He Knows no rules, He Follows No trends, therefore, "now this is what I think"....  He felt somewhat Constrained having to adhere to the Label "name" that is Frost* and the songs Created with that Title..  Music In the Typewriting room, MITTR, Is deff. some of my Fav. Stuff of his.  Whatever he comes out with, I Hope he Lets us Know and even throws us a Bone Prior!!

I can only reiterate what i said a bit back about "Prog" vs. "Progressive", and the fossil comment that I aimed at the more recalcitrant members of our (generally deservedly) esteemed circle.

There's plenty wrong with "Prog" in my books, and I wish Jem all the success in the world with whatever comes out of his talented head and hands, whatever his musical direction may be.

Agree with sentiments on Jem's next output.

As for the recalcitrant ones, I prefer to let sleeping Progs lie, if the dinosaurs want to keep munching the same old leaves and ignoring the lights in the sky, let them. :)

Quote from: "rogerg"recalcitrant is one of my favorite words,
Mine too, as it happens.
And my favourite use of it was by Sir Pterry Pratchett, referring to a spellbook as a "recalcitrant tome"; in two words it imbued a normally inanimate object with not only sentience but a sense of mischief as well.

On the subject of favourite words, my second-favourite is a bit of a cheat as it is in fact backwords, but it was spoken on telly at least once a week when I was a kid so it counts:

Gnobalib.

As sung by the Australian bloke in The Adventure Game (//http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xi0RPiAbs_w).

But my favourite was coined by Pygmy Hippo at the age of three, in exasperation one day at nursery* he said:

Oh.... FLIPPY-KNICKERS!

* That'll be kindergarten for you Merkin types, although why you use a German word in favour of English is beyond me.

It's from the phrase "Yama Merkin Sidzen", the origin of which I have no idea. But I've referred to dwellers-of-the-other-side-of-the-pond as Merkins ever since.

And yes, Geetar, it is a pubic wig.
It's an unusual for one to know that word without having a good reason, so do tell....

Yes, he said that "a 3rd Frost album would probably have sounded quite a lot like PRR 2, seems I was beaten to it :)"

To me, the intro of Deus Ex Machina always reminds me of  Dear Dead Days.  Can't get enough of my PRR fix at the moment :)

I knew what they were from last time they got a Frost forum mention.

A merkin (first use 1617) is a pubic wig. Merkins were originally worn by prostitutes after shaving their genitalia, and are nowadays used as decorative items or in film making.

Wasn't George Bush a Merkin? In more ways than one.

I can see where he is coming from with that, still would be better if it was actual Godfrey material of course.

When I first read that I thought you said "finish IN the bathroom". Not sure exactly what you would have meant by that.

If anyone is interested, have a quick listen to the the first half of Hybrid's track Disappear Here, and tell me that it isn't reminiscent of Belinda singing on EIMA. Some very Godfey-esque glitching and atmospherics too. Jem also said that '...put the last two tracks of 'Disappear Here' together and I hear 15 mins of better 'new prog' than I've heard in a good ol' while..."
Note I think he means progressive music in the wider form as opposed to the prog rock genre. Possibly.  :D

Sounds interesting although I'm not sure there is such a thing as a "usual" Frost* gig!  Of the 6 times I've seen the band, the setlist has only been the same twice - and that was only because I saw them twice in 3 days!  8-)
