Title: Jem is writing a new Frost* track!
Post by: Fogeyspasm on August 24, 2011, 11:53:18 AM
From Jems Twitter
"Ravishing day! Woke up this morning with a new Frost song in my head called "System". Killer riff. I think it's an instrumental."

Today just got better!

Ravishing Day? My Frost* calendar says nothing about this...should the womenfolk be paricularly concerned?

Great news about the song idea, of course. :)

We should expect "mental" to be in there somewhere...

Oh yes. Hopefully that would prompt a new EP/promo or some kind of new release :D

I think its a case of one day at a time rather than talk of releases. The bonus is Jem  even considerering doing a  new Frost* track. Its not too long ago Frost* was a bit of a swear word in the Godfrey household. So this announcemnt is a massive bonus. If more appear even better but im happy with the one for now!

As some of us have said already on the forum, 'Frost*' is only a word, and although I can understand Jem's apparent need to separate his other musical selves away from the prog scene and distance them from the 'F'*' word, I personally thought that Jem's musical vocabulary over the two Frost* studio releases seemed to be an AWFUL lot wider than most of the progressive rock genre anyway, enough in my humble opinion to be a 'catch all' for both Jem's rock, prog and electronic experiments.

Perhaps he has come to the conclusion that he can still carry on the Frost* brand and still satisfy his need for variety, but whatever the reason I'm reeeaaaally glad he's comfortable writing Frost* stuff again.

I just feel that we should let him do it at his own pace this time and not be constantly clamouring for more output -  a case in point being the issue of filming the Christmas AGM. It's just piling the pressure on again and I would rather see a trickle of Frost* stuff now and then, rather than risk a permanent shutdown of Frost*.

Although being a Jem fan it's hard not to shout as loudly as possible 'MORE'!!!!!!.  :D

My special steady hand camera action has been complimented by people at the IQ anniversary gig for filming all 20 mins of The last Human Gateway with barely a wobble, also Frost* at Manchester and even praise from Mr Simon Godfrey for some footage i took of Tinyfish.

I had a feeling Frost* wouldn't die permanently. I don't expect a new album anytime soon, but maybe a track every now and then? We know that plans change quite often.

As an interesting, or not, point that came to me earlier. I am assuming a track with a killer riff wont be acoustic so will this be Blunders first recorded input?
I have been waiting to see what he will bring to the mix! 8-)

Well this is all good news and all but I was really looking forward to Jem's new electronic-Rhodes-smacking-Kronos-monster music.

I understand its all written by the same clever chappy but is 1 in 4 still on? Sounds selfish but I'm dying to hear this.

Either way music's music and the produce from this particular farm has never disappointed me.

However,I don't mean to ruffle feathers but at the same time we're told the F* word is over (genius btw) and that its done and its done and its caused harm to the man himself and its done and the dvd died and its done but now its back and running?

Jem don't kill yourself mate.

Please.

Yes, Jem and only Jem decides what comes out and when. We all join in the sentiment that health comes first...but pointing out that he changes his mind a lot might be accurate and/or fair comment, but it is hard to view as being positive support.
Some might say that it would be better to not reveal the plans but I am grateful to get the insight into his thinking....the price is to allow space for changes of plan.
I'm excited to hear 1-in-4 too (or whatever it ends up being called) but only when he's ready.
Just my view, of course (*smoothes down a single ruffled feather ;))

I agree with every word you said there pedro i used to find it frustrating that jem used to say one thing then do another, but ive learned to take what he says as what might happen instead of thinking its set in stone, the problem lies [in my oppinion] that sometimes jem is just thinking out loud so too speak, why not just enjoy the ride what happens happens weve had some great gigs and music up to now,let jem work at his own pace then hopefully we might get some more treats in the future.

While one must temper one's expectations, I'd never question Jem's intent. He's a king among kings when it comes to pleasing others at his own expense. I'm interested in whatever Jem releases, whenever he releases it.

Plans change. I consider myself lucky to know his have. Most bands don't keep their fans in the loop.

This is indeed good news. I'm new to the world of Frost* only having got hold of Milliontown about six weeks ago and subsequent cd's EIMA and TPE in the last month. Imagine my dismay when I read that Mr Godfrey had suspended the band! I thought that was the end of something, like a love affair that had only just begun.

I had fallen out of love with prog and had only recently began to get closer (it's the fault or not of Big Big Train). Hence the delay in hearing Milliontown etc. Now I just want to hear more, even your noodling Mr Godfrey. There's nothing like a bit of noodling, that's what I say.

A splendid choice. Also very frugal as there are many cheaper 'own brand' versions which are easily as good as any expensive brands. If you're obsessed with Boasters for example, you're going to have to remortgage, there is no way around it.

Welcome aboard! :)

AdmiralB as in Blake? Purportedly an ancestor on my mother's side; some malarkey about secret mistresses, secret children, and the like, leaving me in no position whatsoever to be able to verify a jot of it. Indeed, a brief google would suggest that there's no evidence of him being married or having any children whatsoever, so ...

Ah well; still doesn't stop me trotting the old canard out on occasions like this ...  8-)

Regardless of that diversionary tactic, welcome, sir!

Sorry to disappoint, but it's B as in Treasure island, if that's not too much of a clue.

I do know of the Frost* reports, but when I last looked there had been some legal shennanigans brought about about by the estate of Marty Feldman, curse his eyes. Oops, sorry about that. I will look again nevertheless.

Boasters? Far too expensive for AdmiralB's household I'm afraid. And when I said "plain" I meant as in chocolate. Scrummy.

So, Admiral, tell us some more of your musical preferences. Any other 21st century prog catch your ear?
Title: Re: Jem is writing a new Frost* track!
Post by: AdmiralB on August 28, 2011, 11:08:08 PM
This is the second time I've written this. Anyway, lots of 21st Century prog has come to my attention. Big Big Train of course, the reason why I've dipped my big toe back into the prog water. Scandinavian prog like Karmakanic, Galleon and Magic Pie. Transatlantic, although I'm a little concerned about Neal Morse and his conversion to the old time religion. And Anathema, the last record from them was a bit of a gem.

Having heard John mitchell's contribution to Frost* I have started to look at his back catalogue. I've recently picked up " A ten years of" Arena, which is ok. This will not stop me from picking up a Kino cd however.

I will also be picking up Karnataka's Gathering Light or the last one from Magenta. The bass player from a band a colleague of mine from work plays in has apparently joined them, Magenta that is.

I think that's enough to be going on with, isn't it?
Title: Re: Jem is writing a new Frost* track!
Post by: gr8gonzo on August 29, 2011, 02:01:23 AM
For now. :D

I see the vein you've tapped into. Arena doesn't really fit. Kino is recommended, as is It Bites (as far as Mitchell's concerned). I quite like the latest Karmakanic and Magic Pie. I like Galleon musically, but am put off by the vocals. Based on your other mentions, may I suggest Tin Spirits, Wobbler, Unitopia and maybe even Comedy of Errors?
Title: Re: Jem is writing a new Frost* track!
Post by: Pedro on August 29, 2011, 07:28:05 AM
Admiral, your colleague is a Godstick? Cool. Really looking forward to seeing/hearing Magenta live again.
Are you aware of Gonzo's internet radio show? Saturday nights, 9pm - Midnight (UK), plays some brilliant stuff and a few of us have great fun in the live chat. The only downside is that it makes you want to buy stuff! :)
Title: Re: Jem is writing a new Frost* track!
Post by: AdmiralB on August 29, 2011, 10:00:23 AM
Oh yeah, I forot to mention Wobbler (the Scandinavian link) and Unitopia. You're right about the Galleon vocals, not the best, but the music. I'll certainly give Tin Spirits a go along with Comedy of Errors.

A Godstick? You've got me there unless of course you mean bass player. The bass player isn't a colleague of mine it's the vocalist of the band. I've never seen the band what with my gammy leg I don't get out much nowadays. Damn the war.

Sorry if I'm misunderstanding. Godsticks' bass player and drummer have become Magenta's Daryl & Chester, so I assumed your colleague is a Godstick.

DId someone just say FROST*?

Oh and a big plutonic hug too all of you lovely fellow frosties both afar and in the drenched
and wind-worn Eastern US. I hope all of you are doing well these days. The last time I posted
here I was going through some troubled personal times but alas I'm coming out on the other side.

I have actually been following Jem's blog and I think it's good that he's feeling better and I welcome
whatever output may come from his recent writing. I wouldn't expect an album out of this though.
I wonder if maybe the move back to Sussex is making him feel back home musically perhaps?

A i said in the one 'farewell' post a while back, I always believe that if you leave something you've worked
hard at and it's something you loved to do and it's had a positive effect on people, you will eventually
come back to it later some day.

Maybe if time allows Jem will drop by?

Here's the SP on the bass player from my colleagues band. Yes he was(is?) the bass player with Godstick. He joined them 18 months ago from my colleagues band which is called "The Alliance".

He still, apparently, played with "The Alliance" even when a member of "Godstick". According to my colleague his name is Dan he is 18 and very talented. So I don't know him and already I hate him on two levels. Only joking. or am I. All the very best Dan in the new incarnation of Magenta.

Admiral, I think it's perfectly OK to hate those younger than you who possess an awful lot of talent. Dan from Godsticks is certainly one, that big girl Henry Rogers from Touchstone and DeeExpus is another... b*stards, the lot of 'em...  ;)

Ya know I actually have been craving biscuits lately now that you mention it.
I lost a few (american)pounds over the summer going on hikes in the hills of
upstate NY. Time to gain some back  :)

While I'm thinking of it, has anyone heard from rogerg? Vermont got hit particularly hard

in some areas. Hopefully he and his family are doing alright.

I'm here!

we, personally, were completely spared, but our town was really hit hard.  lots of homes and businesses lost, and school opening has been delayed until next week.  really amazing amount of water went through.  so many towns devastated and cut off, they're having to fly in supplies and it will be months before some services are restored.  many bridges lost and so many roads destroyed.  I've been lucky in my life to never have gone through a major disaster like this, and hope to never again.  we were very lucky in that very few lives were lost, it could have been so much worse.  but people are tough, and everyone is pitching in, and things will return to normal eventually.  lives have been changed, though.

thanks for thinking of me!!

Hey Pedro! Thanks for asking.  :)

I'm recovering from a burn out; I've been doing to much for to long and body and mind said STOP!
I'm getting back on the horse as we speak.

Bought a 5 string bass and practicing my arse off to get the hang of it. Also picked up an Ibanez S470 from eBay that is being shipped from the US currently. It's always a bit of a struggle to find a good lefty but I seemed to get my hands on 2 fine instruments that'll surely give me some new inspiration.

Glad to hear there still some Frost* activity going on.  :D
