Excellent album

A must have just for the fact there's a track called Frost

Impressive to have seen Matt play it live, made it look so easy, just like Jem does on the Frost* reports

Listened to Relic in the car yesterday...which wasn't easy because the car stereo has got really fussy about anything that has not been commercially pressed. It'll either refuse to admit it's a CD, or sit there clicking and whirring for ages saying "Load CD". Eventually, if you take the CD out and put it back in again then it will play...after a while.
So, at the end of this malarkey....having forgotten that the volume was up....'Nightbus' started....made one jump a little!

Listening again now on my "good gear" while catching up on fora....enjoying it a lot. :D

I had that problem with it as well, but it wouldn't play on the DVD upstairs at all

I rip all my CDs straight away, then either play them as MP3s on my excellent little Sansa Clip (which plugs into the car via a HippoModded socket into the car's Lo-Fi), FLACs on my PC while I work or very occasionally burn them to a CD-R. That way they never get worn out ;)

Matt's both a fine guitarist and a lovely person.  I missed that gig.  Last time I saw him play he was standing on a pile of haybales in the middle of a field not very near Reading.

Quote from: "Matt Stevens"I just wanted to say thank you for all your support in 2011, amazing. Everyone who has shared the music on the web and burned CDs for friends, it makes a massive difference and going to gigs this year and there being a supportive audience at them has been great.

On my bandcamp page after many emails we've brought back the live album from earlier in the year as a £3 download, it was voted an album of the year by the blog Bearly Rambling:

http://mattstevens.bandcamp.com/album/live-in-blackpool (http://mattstevens.bandcamp.com/album/live-in-blackpool)

And my first two albums are on a £3 download as well for the rest of January.

Its the Spencer Park Music sale!! Thanks loads to everyone who has ordered T-Shirts which have turned out to be really popular.

If you listen to Dandelion Radio there is a radio session by me this month, lots of really long songs. First broadcast is 1pm on Jan 1st but its repeated on Mark Whitby's show throughout the month. You can listen online at:

Oh, aye. I hope to be able to get to the Rotherham gig. I've still yet to see how Manning mess up, er, bring to life all that work we did on Margaret's Children on stage. And it's always worth seeing Matt live, especially so this year as he's doing fewer gigs now.

What was he? A bar steward?

Any other Northern gigs in the offing?

I'll answer my own question.

Edit 2;
and the support gig @ Rotherham which is n't on the website

I finally managed to see Matt play live in Hitchin on Saturday after following him for years. We've conversed on-line, but never met before. He was playing a support slot for The Magick Brothers (Daevid Allen of Gong). And he was bloody good despite some technical issues. I had a long chat with Matt and Kev (his driver, roadie, producer and Fierce & The Dead bandmate). Great guys. There's a chance they will be back with the full band!

Wasn't so sure about Daevid Allen. Nice enough music (and poetry), but I don't know his stuff and it didn't grab me. There were lots of older Gong fans there although not a huge crowd overall.

Hope you're good?
Ready for Christmas?
Got your advent calendar ready?

This is for you:
A new and free 8 track album:

http://mattstevens.bandcamp.com/album/s ... mpler-2012 (http://mattstevens.bandcamp.com/album/spencer-park-music-sampler-2012)

Rare tracks, unreleased tracks, a 14 minute track and ones people like. Please tell your friends and share it on forums/facebook/twitter and blogs and all that great stuff, it makes a massive difference. Burn a CD for a friend, (wrap it paper and give it as a christmas gift!) We are a purely DIY enterprise (it's going to be ages before we can train the baby up). Features The Fierce & The Dead, Yonks and my solo stuff.

If you like the stuff on the sampler please consider buying one the albums, it would be REALLY appreciated.

I played a very brief solo on my mate Adrian's band's album Nine Stones Close and there is 8/10 review of it in this months Classic Rock Magazine. Which is cool :)

Thanks so much for all your support. Amazing :)

Speak soon
Matt Stevens

23rd March The Cluny Newcastle with Mike Keneally (Zappa/Vai and solo genius) and Godsticks,
May 11th Celebr8 Festival Kingston, South London

Hello Frosties

Wanted to let you know about this :)

The Fierce And The Dead sign to Bad Elephant Music for 2nd Album

"BEM is delighted to announce partnering with The Fierce And The Dead for the production, release and worldwide distribution of the band's second full-length album.

The Fierce And The Dead - guitarists Matt Stevens and Steve Cleaton, bassist and producer Kev Feazey and drummer Stuart Marshall - was originally born out of sonic experimentation when making Matt's second solo album, Ghost, and they've developed into one of the most original bands in the UK rock scene. Their unique brand of instrumental rock music, fusing rock, post-rock, punk and progressive elements, has made a big impression though one full-length album and two EPs, and their incendiary live performances, most recently as part of the Stabbing a Dead Horse tour of the UK with Knifeworld and Trojan Horse.

David Elliott, founder and CEO of Bad Elephant Music said: "We're proper made up to be working with The Fierce And The Dead. They're absolutely our kind of band, and lovely guys too. I'm looking forward to hearing what Matt, Kev, Stuart and Steve are going to produce for us, and of course it will be an absolute monster. Collaborating with a band of TFATD's calibre is a huge honour for us, and we welcome them with open arms to the BEM family."

Matt Stevens, on behalf of The Fierce And The Dead, said: "We are extremely pleased to partner with Bad Elephant on this album, they are true music lovers and believe in supporting the artist. This will allow us to make the music we want to make and have the support to help us gain a wider audience, without in anyway compromising our vision for our new album. And they like a good curry, which is nice."

The as yet untitled album is scheduled for release in the Autumn of 2013."

So this is it - I realised - If I can get another 30 people to download this live record I can get an EHX B9 pedal and put loads of cool guitar organ sounds all over the next album.

Thanks loads everyone who have downloaded it already. Really appreciate it. Bit like a mini kickstarter idea.
