Title: The Third Ending
Post by: vocalnick on December 02, 2008, 11:36:03 PM
Righto. Eponymous asked some questions back in late August (!!!) which I utterly failed to answer, or even to be aware of. in my defence, I was busy getting married at the time, but I believe I've exceeded the statute of limitations on that excuse now.

So without further ado:

QuoteQ1: How's that new album coming?
Very nicely! Progress has been slow due to various "real-life" committments (two marriages, a house purchase, various professional schisms), but we're seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Sounding a little different this time around, a bit more guitar-centric (although I have yet to tackle the keys in earnest, so I expect I will be providing a bit more on that front before we're done). We're also leaning away from the big long epic interconnected "Fingerprints" style thing so far. A lot more song-based.

QuoteQ2: Does the new album have a title?
Not really, no. A couple of options have been put forward, but nothing set in stone.

QuoteQ3: Is the band name a reference to Wim Wenders' "Until the End of the Film" (er, sorry, "Until the End of the World"), which clearly had three or more endings? Perhaps the third is your favorite? At least it was a better view than "The Unbearable Lengthness of Movie"
Hah, nope, I haven't seen it. What does happen in the third, out of interest?

QuoteQ4: Was Kevin Gilbert an influence at all? I hear bits of him throughout T3E, but it might just be me
Absolutely (I think fingerprints sails pretty close to the definition of "influence", listening back). Big fan, particularly love The Shaming of the True.

Oh yes, comedy gold indeed! I did play the appropriated drum fill (two on the snare, one on the crash) but I guess you couldn't hear it from there.  ;)

So anyway, who else in the band got married?

That would be Cornel - our illustrious (and lustrous) bass player. Curtis already took the plunge a few years ago, so that's a clear majority of the band married off now.

And then there was one....

Hey VocalNick, any news on the second album?

Hey :)

It's all trundling along at a glacial pace, but at a pace nevertheless.

I have been absolutely insanely flat-out with the day job (post production audio for a cartoon series at the moment) and I've had very little time to work on new stuff, other than the odd snippet here or there. But Curtis has been a busy lad, and he and Knotty did some trial recordings for the drums last weekend. I believe they're all set up now, so he'll be laying down keeper tracks soon.

We're taking a slightly different approach this time - we have a bunch of songs which are essentially finished, so rather than get them all done then move on to a specific recording mode, we're going to begin laying final parts down now, and continute letting the unfinished songs percolate a bit. I can only speculate on this point, but I'd imagine that would mean we might end up leaking a song or two in the interim. But don't hold me to it :)

Hey Nick!
Can you guess what I'm going to ask??  ;)  ;)
I listened to T3E on the way home this evening - it's been a few weeks....such a fantastic album.
News please!

Hope all is well.  :)

Hi Pedro!

Can you guess what I'm going to answer? :)  :D

All is indeed well, just very busy. I just started a new job, Knotty is polishing his shiny things to make them even more shiny, Curtis is buying new guitars and building things feverishly in his workshop (I think I heard him muttering something about a flux capacitor and the fabric of space/time) and Cornel is not reading his emails.

But it's coming along. We've started getting together fortnightly again, actually composing with instruments in the room as opposed to sending MP3s around, and it's been most constructive. Video updates will resume just as soon as my camera gets abck from Canon Australia where it's currently sequestered awaiting not being broken.

Thanks for your interest :)

I'm also in the throes of converting the garage in our new place into something more akin to a project studio, and I'll be working on some solo stuff in there as well, if that's of any interest :)

Cool. Thanks for the interesting update.
Solo stuff? Yes indeed. Always interested to give just about anything a listen. :D
Good luck with the new job!
