Title: Southpaws - stand up and be counted!
Post by: catherine on January 22, 2009, 10:56:42 PM
I noticed on the news tonight that Barack Obama is a leftie! Obviously a good bloke then.

Of couse, all the best people are lefties, just like me, and I believe Jem is as well, as I vaguely recall him grumbling that you couldn't get left-handed Stylophones.

Just wondered who else on the forum is a leftie?

...but the mighty Racing Hippo apparently put that (erm) right....

All right handed in Clan Pedro. My Mum was left-handed though....

Completely, totally and utterly!  :D

I play drums "mirrored" and my git is a lefty.
Keyboard's easy; I just play it sitting behind it instead of in front of it. Looks really weird on a Steinway btw. But not as weird as on an upright piano!

I'm not but Pygmy Hippo is.

Is it possible to get pygmy-sized guitars in southpaw mode?

Me when I write, hold a snooker cue or tennis raquet etc, but if I ever play cricket, golf or strap on my air guitar, it's right.

Curiously, I work in HR and about 60% of my colleagues are lefties too...

I'm a leftie, as is Mrs Canary and daughter Canary. Son Canary is a rightie throwback of some sort.

Wife and I - both left-handed.
Kids - both right-handed.

(Aside: I once attended a BBC management training course and out of the twelve people there, nine were lefthanded. I don't know if that means the BBC attracts more creative right-brain types, or if we were just the ones that made the shit managers.)

As a youngster, I started out as a natural left-handed writer but was 'guided' to being right-handed by my parents   .
OK, it might have saved me 10% on guitars and has given me a greater choice of guitar models, but I often wonder what psychological damage being a repressed southpaw has done to me!   ;)

Brilliant, Pedro!

Sadly enough, it looks familiar to me from too much time spent posing in front of a mirror with the latest acquisition...

Leftie here...

Well confused Leftie to be honest...

Writing, snooker, darts - leftie

Guitar, javelin, cricket, bowling (both 10 pin and cricket) - rightie

And..

racket sports, both, I have no backhand I just swap hands.

And total confusion when using a knife and fork, I never seem to feel comfortable even when I swap hands.

I'm left when it comes to writing and drawing, but right when it comes to everything else (including arguments!   ).

Does that mean you punch them with your right fist? Otherwise I can't see how handedness is relevant to an argument!

Well I was actually going for something like 'in an argument, I'm always right', but you may have something there...  :)

That is, if I ever got angry enough to punch anyone. I'm a natural pacifist, every time I get angry enough to lamp someone in the middle of their face all the muscles in my upper body relax and I'm rendered useless. Which is why I'm rubbish in a fight.

Bloody hell, I don't drink a lot, I don't do drugs, I don't go for nights out, I don't fight, I'm not loud, I don't endlessly persue females, I carefully look after my finances... I'm a rubbish student as well!

I'm a lefty too - so's my boyfriend - and my brother and his wife.

@D.S. - Dave Kilminster and John Wetton are both left-handed but play their guitars right-handed. JW told me he thinks it's better that way because you can do all the nifty fretwork stuff with your better hand. I'm not a guitarist so I wouldn't know.

Julie :-)

You can add Robert Fripp to that list. Not a bad list either!

Interesting!  So in order to play 1970s King Crimson material properly, you need to be a leftie playing a right-handed guitar! (Dave Kilminster plays Fripp's guitar parts brilliantly on Wetton's best live album IMO 'Nomansland' so there is an extra connection there!)

Well when I'm not in Hull College doing a Foundation Degree in Music Production, I spend my free time messing around with guitars and keyboards and going for walks. I've just aquired a plug-in which contains about 80 Rick Wakeman Moog sounds, so right now I'm having fun with that!  :D

And no, I don't have a lot of friends. Must be the Prog thing...  8-)
