Greetings
As a bit of fun last year, I instigated the inaugural "Prog Personality Of the Year" award, to recognise in a non-financial and indeed, non-ceremonial way, the person(ality) whom, above all, graced this thing we call "Prog" .
And I feel like doing it again !
Last year the imperious Twang, of this parish, won the popular vote, and well deserved it was too.
Vote for who you like, whether that be artist, promoter, label head, forum member, merchandise "technician" or pod-cast DJ. I'll gather the votes and announce the winner on 1st January 2011 (hangover notwithstanding)
You can use the voting form at the right hand side of my website //http://gable-end.blogspot.com/ , or PM me or just reply to this thread on the forum. All votes carry the same weight, so in the best British tradition, it's a first past the post system (none of that liberal dalliance with AV here ;) )
Ithangu !
I've gone and done it. :)
Quote from: "Mouse"I've gone and done it. :)
Good man Mouse. :D
The only name that jumps to mind for 2010 is Mike Portnoy and his shock departure from Dream Theater.
Prog Personality Of The Year 2010 - Update 20/12/10
Good News Everyone,
I can exclusively reveal that, thanks to the incredible generosity of The Amazing Wilf, I will be taking over an episode of The European Perspective (http://www.theeuropeanperspective.com (http://www.theeuropeanperspective.com) broadcast on the Dividing Line Broadcast Network http://www.thedividingline.com (http://www.thedividingline.com)), to announce the winners of the Prog Personality of the Year 2010 poll, in a show scheduled for 15 Jan 2011
Remember, vote for who you think has contributed the most to this glorious prog world in 2010, whether that be artist, promoter, label head, forum member, merchandise "technician" or pod-cast DJ !
You can use the voting form at http://gable-end.blogspot.com/ (http://gable-end.blogspot.com/) or PM me !
I know there are a lot of polls bidding for your attention at this time year, so thanks for the response so far. The poll will remain open until 31 December 2010.
So vote away ! If nothing else it'll be a chance for me to "entertain" you with some choice Post-Xmas Prog Cheese a la Bert !!
I will endeavour to have an "official" web page up soon. In the meantime, a Happy Xmas and jolly New Year to you all.
Bert xx
Could this possibly be because the regular host of the show can't be also the winner?
:o
(and if not, he certainly deserves to be)
Just voted via the form on your blog :)
Cool, Bert!
My plot of Muppets taking control of an internet radio station is starting to look doable. :D
Greetings Frost*ies,
All is safely gathered in and I can report a largely trouble free and non-hijacked (with a couple of exceptions) poll.
Unfortunately, due to some technical issues, I will no longer be broadcasting the awards show on DLBN on 15 Jan, but am finalising arrangements for a re-scheduled show and host. More on this exciting development to follow.
The results are an excellent mix and should generate a good listen at least !
Thanks to everyone who voted.
Bert

I thought that they'd covered everyone, then noticed that Oliver Wakeman is there, but not his dad!
"simon and jem's dad"
Presumably for his narration on the Big Red Spark, not just creating them?!
Congrats to the various Frost*ies in the list! 8-)

Ditto for me, more or less. I can't open my eyes that wide first thing in the morning, but was properly surprised to see my moniker among that lot. It's an honor. Thank you.
Oooh my eyes
There's a strange mix of bold and normal font that make the list very difficult to read. Mind you it does make you read the whole list. :)

Don't you just hate it when someone makes you do that ;)
PS- It was deliberate on my part

I think we are trying to keep it so that people find out the top 10 by listening to the podcast - as a thank you to Bert for putting the effort in.
I think he will post the names and rankings when he is ready. :)
Hello everybody peeps :D
Sorry for my lack of posting the good news that the podcast is alive and kicking over at Progzilla or via iTunes (search for Progzilla Podcast) of via the links on the PPOTY website.
I think the Frost*ies will find plenty in it of interest ;)
I don't have a clue why some people are having having issues accessing the website as it's most definitely up and running. Clear down your cache perhaps ? Dunno :D
Anyway, thanks to Nellie, Pedders and the GR8Gonzo, I see that the Frost*ies have been kept fully in the picture. I will update the website soon with the top 10 and the playlist, as I didn't want to release that info before people who wanted to listen had a chance to download. I'll also place longer interviews up at some point, as I know that people would like to listen to the other stuff me and the winners talked about.
Thanks for your patience everyone. Sorry it took so long. Next year - dancing girls !! On Ice !! :D :D
Just finished listening, what a marvellous show, brilliant. A great 2010 round up of all things prog too. Loads to sink your teeth into as well, enough to keep a few band forums going for a while me thinks, but no spoilers here, move along, nothing to see here, move along.
I'm off on my travels soon, so I'll be loading up the old Walkman, and laptop with this and Gr8Gonzo goodies to help me on my way. Looking forward to it, so yes, the no spoilers culture suits me nicely! :D
I've just updated the webiste with the playlist
//http://www.ppoty.net/PPOTY2010/Playlist.html
Last bump up I promise.
I thought that I'd just post the winners listing, as the podcast has been available for a little while now (and is of course, still available) ;D ;D

I'm not quite sure what you mean, but I once mistyped the web address and saw something which... let's say I would rather not have. I forget what the exact website was, but after that it's not us I'm worried about being penetrated..
There was or still is a version of the address which is dodgy and, judging by the fact there's a link at the bottom to enquire about buying the URL, I think it is just some idiot trying to make some money.
I guess if the victim doesn't "bite" when it's just offensive they might add something to get more people to complain? Maybe I'm making this all up?

Is that why it doesn't log me on automatically?
Neille
Mr Incompetent managed to get his question into the quote
"Is that why it doesn't log me on automatically?"

It very probababably is, yes.
