And for those of us in sunny South Holland, I believe that Arena are also playing at De Boerderij on November 19th (at least, I noted that down when I was there for Pallas recently). Yup, the venue website confirms it.

Also of note (Jowitt in, Jowitt out :-)) at De Boerderij this autumn is the "Official IQ30 European Weekend Celebration", on October 22-23. Seems a little akin to the Marillion weekends: have they done one of these before? If so, has anyone been and can give a report on the likely format? I mean, I'm sure it be best to go to both days, but failing that, which would be best? First or second?

PROGRESS NEW ARENA ALBUM AND LIVE DATES
Things are hotting up nicely with the new Arena album (?The Seventh Degree of Separation?). The drums have been recorded, and John Jowitt is currently in ?Nomad Studio? working on Bass. Clive, John Mitchell and Paul Manzi will soon be back at ?Thin Ice Studio? laying down vocal tracks. The album will contain 13 tracks.

Clive: ?I?ve finally just about finished writing the lyrics for ?7th Degree?, so it?s time to integrate them into the music of the album. This is always one of the most stimulating parts of making an album.?

THE SEVENTH DEGREE OF SEPARATION
PRE-ORDER NOW AT WWW.VERGLAS.COM (http://www.verglas.com)!

Hello Arena Fans!

At last the new Arena album is finished and will be released on the 28th November 2011. Our seventh album is a concept album, which explores the last hour of life and the first hour beyond. It's truly dark in the way that only Arena can do! It's available now for pre-order exclusively at Verglas.

The Seventh Degree Of Separation special edition package is a 56 minute long, 13 track cd in a 3 leafed digibook with a 28 page pullout booklet packed with original artwork + a bonus 50 minute DVD - The making of The Seventh Degree Of Separation, where each member of the band gives you some insight into the process they go through to make the music. The tracklist is as follows:

01. The Great Escape
02. Rapture
03. One Last Au Revoir
04. The Ghost Walks
05. Thief Of Souls
06. Close Your Eyes
07. Echoes Of The Fall
08. Bed Of Nails
09. What If?
10. Trebuchet
11. Burning Down
12. Catching The Bullet
13. The Tinder Box

Clive: I must say the album is sounding great; very powerful and atmospheric. The music to me is another part of the Arena evolution, although there is still that intrinsic Arena-sound pervading the album.

This special edition package is now available to buy only at www.verglas.com (http://www.verglas.com) and you will receive your special edition package before the official release date. Or you can come and buy it at one of the tour dates below.

Please note that you will not be able to buy this in any shop or any online outlet except www.verglas.com (http://www.verglas.com) before 28th November, or get it at one of the gigs. Come to the Arena tour and see a fantastic stage show with our new vocalist and music! You can also hear a sample of the album at www.arenaband.com (http://www.arenaband.com)

We invite you to spread the word about the album and tour on any social media and forum you can think of. Much appreciated!

We hope you enjoy the new music and see you at one of the gigs!

Mick, John, Paul, Clive and John

Last Thursday, on the 10th of November, Silesian Theatre in Katowice, Poland, for once more became the most important place for prog-rock fans, which was owing to special concerts played by three bands representing this particular kind of rock. The concerts were special because Arena, Believe and Osada Vida were recording their own live DVDs. Their release is planned for the Spring/Summer of 2012 on Metal Mind Productions.

The British band Arena visited Poland as part of the tour promoting their brand new album "The Seventh Degree of Separation". The album's official release date is set for the 28th of November and it opens a new chapter in the history of the band led since 1995 by two acclaimed musicians: Clive Nolan (Pendragon, Caamora, Shadowland) and Mick Pointer (ex-Marillion). The new material was recorded with a new singer, Paul Manzi (Oliver Wakeman Band), the bassist John Jowitt, who returned to the band's line-up after a several year break, and the guitarist John Mitchell. The show at the theatre in Katowice was enthusiastically received by Arena's fans. The band performed their brand new songs (The Great Escape, The Seventh Degree Of Separation, Rapture, One Last Au Renoir, The Ghost Walks, What If?, Burning Down) as well as a selection of songs from their previous albums (including The Visitor, Solomon, Crying For Help VII, Ascension).

Well, given a perfectly legitimate reason to leave the house last night (namely that my wife and daughter didn't want me glowering at the back of the living room as they watched the execrable Strictly), I did indeed venture out into the foggy night to see Arena at De Boerderij in Zoetermeer.

'Twas veritably stowed out and I wasn't even sure I'd get a ticket at the door. But, I did, in time to see the second half of PBII's support set. Not much to say there, I'm afraid; nice blokes, but a bit generic ...

But Arena played an excellent gig and even though I don't know much of their stuff, I enjoyed it thoroughly. Messrs Jowitt and Mitchell, fellows of whom we are acquainted in these parts, were on good form, as were their compatriots Messrs Pointer, Nolan, and Manzi, the latter seeming to be a good fit to the music at hand. The audience were on form too; all in all, another demonstration of quite how much my Dutch friends like their prog.

I also had a rather bewildering long conversation with JM at the bar; well, bewildering to me, perhaps, but presumably eminently sensible to him. Needless to say, if he offers to sell you tickets on the maiden voyage of his latest project, due for launch in 2012, then do be sure to ask him whether he'll be endeavouring to avoid the icier reaches of the North Atlantic en-route. A "titan" of the prog rock scene, he may be, but rebuilding a famous ship with the related name may be taking things a little too far.

While I presume he was taking the piss at the end of a long tour, with JM you can never be too sure ...  ;)

Anyway, I also took the opportunity to take a few piccies from the either side of the stage. If you're interested, you can take a butcher's at my wife's MobileMe gallery page:

TA another one for you  :D

ROCK ITtervoort 2012 have announced that ARENA will replace headline act Threshold at this year's festival.

We're proud to announce that ARENA will replace THRESHOLD as headliner of ROCK ITtervoort 2012.After the announcement that Threshold cancelled all their april gigs, including Rock Ittervoort, we started searching for a good replacement. We're convinced that Arena is even more than that. Arena returns after 4 years to Ittervoort for an exclusive gig in Europe.

Arena is a very populair progressive rockband, founded in 1995 by Clive Nolan (Pendragon) and Mick Pointer (ex-Marillion).Musically the band's style ranges from symphonic to hard rock. At the end of last year, they released their latest CD "The Seventh Degree of Separation".With this album they are still one of the best bands on the English scene.
