Title: Frost*ie Forum T-Shirts (At last)
Post by: Nellie on October 10, 2011, 11:54:42 AM
Thank goodness, you shout! At last, we can buy a Frost*ie forum t-shirt. It's very true, my colleagues, you can now order your t-shirt designer by Vitamin P with your very own name on the back via The Merch Desk Shop (http://http://www.themerchdesk.com/shop/)
Pre-orders will run until 11th November when they will go to print as it will take quite some time to produce them and I'm sure everyone will want them in time for the December gig.
I hope you like them. :D

Hereís the design chaps. As Nels said, you can have youíre name on the back in any of the styles shown or if youíre a bit of typochondriac, a font of your choosing. If you let us know on your order and supply an e-mail address, weíll send you a proof for sign-off before we get the potato printers out!

.. actually it would be polite to get one in each colour!    :)

$42.17 for mine. Happy to have the shirt. Just crossing fingers that it's not made from the same itchy, lint magnet cotton my last several band shirts have been. My Spock's Beard X shirt was the worst of the bunch. Think they made that one from cheap wool and scabies. I'd gladly pay a premium for a soft, quality jersey-knit cotton (hint, hint).

Itís been a while since Iíve been here :o  but saw some tweets about forum t-shirts and just couldnít resist! These look really great, just canít decide what font would look bestÖÖany chance someone could list what the font names are, then I can see what "Splinky" looks like in each before I commit.

Have to admit that I won't buy one as I don't like the design very much. To each his own, I guess.
But nevertheless thanks for offering these!

Yeah, that would be pretty cool. I know some of them are 'Rush' fonts, a whole load of which can be grabbed from http://http://www.2112.net/rushfonts/, the 'Catherine' one is similar to 'Kremlin' and 'DS' is the Disney typeface (I think).
But official confirmation from Nellie/Vit P would be appreciated  ;)

Yeah, sorry about the price. It's because we are printing each invidual name as well as having a 2 sided t-shirt.

We are considering a vintage red colour, too. Just waiting for VitP to put it on here. If you have already ordered but would like a vintage red instead, send me a PM and I'll change the order.

I'm faced with a slight dilemma. With all due respect to Vit P, I'm not really sure on the design of the front of the t-shirt, but like the back of it  :?  Shall I toss a coin or what  :?: No doubt these will be a "once only" print.

i hate to pull everyone back to the actual subject of the thread, as those really were a couple of lovely pages of pleasant banter, but i'm a bit confused re: the ordering of one of these shirts...

on the site, the fonts are listed as numbers with no indication of which is which, and no guide, so i'm really lost as to what i'd be getting. anyone want to clue me in on which font is which in the selection so i can get one of these bad boys ordered?

http://themerchdesk.com/shop/index.php? ... uct_id=122 (http://themerchdesk.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&path=18_46&product_id=122)

You can see some (btw horrible, because blurry) pics of the shirt. 2 of the previews have little numbers next to the shirts, so that's what you have to pay attention to.
Here are copies:

oh goodness, it appears my eyes are further destroyed than i thought they were. it's all become clear to me now, though, thanks to your help!

order placed! i went with the rather dashingly pretentious signature font of #3. Finbeard on a red shirt, sounds grand! 50 of my american dollars well spent, if you ask me.

Maybe I should, just for old times' sake.

It's being called 'vintage red', so I would imagine it would be more in line with the pillarbox-style red of the Mellotron shirts, but I dunno. That helpful enough?

Whilst I understand your view and agree it would be nice -

i) It's a bit late to be changing design now.
ii) Vit P has already put a great deal of effort into this and to see that work wasted is hardly fair in my mind.
iii) Vit P is very busy, this could delay forum shirts by several months.
iv) Just my opinion but I think this design is excellent and is a nice way to bring the EIMA era to a close.

Feel free to argue the toss.

I actually think the t-shirts stand on their own design-wise.
They aren't in the same vein as EIMA or Black Live Machine - they're unique.

The Frost*erisk on the forum t-shirts isn't like the EIMA spray one and the design will be a very limited and unique edition. The new Frost*erisk will be on the December t-shirts and if you get your orders in quickly enough (after the gig if you can't make it), I can zap them to you in time for Christmas (maybe not to USA etc).

The other benefit of having the current/old frosterisk is it is a statement of involvement now.
Picture the scene in a few years when Jem and the boys are headlining enormodomes with Rush & DT as support, and all the newbies are there in their Frost*5 t-shirts - you can smugly sit there in your 'vintage' Frost* shirt and think of all the good times they've missed out on ;)

I went for the font as posted in the Frost*shop where they used my name to illustrate one of the possibles. I figured that if Vitamin P thought I ought to have that particular font, he was probably right.

Wise decision; that's surely what we call "fontinative determinism". As your font is, so you are; I'm very much a sans serif sort of guy ...  ;)

As a complete and utter typochondriac (I watched the film Helvetica (http://http://www.helveticafilm.com/) with great enjoyment) I have both serif and sans-serif moments.

Not quite sure what yours is (and am too busy, in principle, to play "Font Finder" this afternoon  ;) ), but that capital N has more than a touch of the Futura about it. Always thought those below-baseline pointy bits were a bit weird in the medium version, although strangely they become "normal" flat bottomed stanchions in the bold version.

Stanley Kubrick was famously a big fan of Futura Extra Bold, but appears to have gone off piste when he opted for that other very famous font, Gill Sans, for the intermission slide in the middle of 2001. It says something very profound (or trivial) about me that I was very taken with the latter when I saw 2001 in a cinema in Cambridge a number of years ago

Have these been posted yet? I mystery package arrived at home yesterday, but the address label was damaged, so we couldn't tell if it was actually addressed to us. As such, the postie wouldn't hand it over. If you've not posted them, then I suspect it wasn't a package destined for me at all - I've only just ordered my first Xmas pressie!

But speaking of the shirts and Postman Pat, I presume that having ticked "Pickup from store" on my order, that I'll be receiving mine by hand at The Peel, right Nells?

Of course, it poses the logistical problem of what to wear en-route between the hotel and the gig and then what to do with it once the shiny new t-shirt has been pulled on ... Mid-December in London? I can probably walk topless through Kingston, no?

Oo-er.

I think the Banana* should wait with Nellie until the AGM. After all, with it being so close to the gig and all, we wouldn't want it to take forever getting to here and possibly missing out on the gig. I didn't have any special photo plan in mind, so there's no ruination where that's concerned. Is that OK with everyone?

Thank you Nells and thank you Vit-P for the fab work with the T-Shirts.
I'm especially chuffed and grateful about the surprise forum AGM snowflake shirt. In fact my wife tracked down all of the band (thanks to Craig's son for pointing them all out to her ) and press-ganged them all into signing it for me. And with her opening gambit of "i'm not really a fan, but would you mind signing this....?" , much deserved kudos to the band is due for still stumping up with the signatures and having a chat with her  ;)

Expect to see it on eBay very soon; the way I read sawtooth's wife when she saw the look in our eyes as she showed it to us at the after-gig curry, she made a very rapid fiscal calculation about the best way to maximise her return on (very little  ;) ) investment ...

"Oh, I'm not a fan ... but I can spot a canny market opportunity when I see one".

Next thing you know, sawtooth's missus will be ringing up Jem and proposing a 50:50 profit sharing deal on a natty range of autographed Frost* boxer shorts  8-)

Good job you ordered the curry in advance, Keith; you couldn't possibly have heard the waiter asking for your order on the night after spending the whole gig right in front of the left-hand speaker stack. That was you, wasn't it?

Yep, that was me. The ears took a bashing, but it was worth it  :)

Mad, completely mad: my left ear didn't stop buzzing until Sunday morning, and I was three metres away from the speakers.

For anyone needing good custom ear plugs, I can thoroughly recommend these folks:

http://http://www.elacin.com/en/page/36/music

OK, they're very definitely not cheap and you also need to factor in the cost of a visit to an audiologist to get some moulds of your ears made, but for a perfect fit, they're fantastic.

I actually don't have the ear plug variety, but have Elacin moulds for my Etymotic ER-4P earphones and it's on that basis that I can recommend Elacin's moulds in general. Indeed, while Elacin makes the moulds, Etymotic makes the attenuation filters in those earplugs, and Elacin also resell standard earplugs from Etymotic that are very likely to be good, as well as a damn sight cheaper:

Right; enough advertising for one afternoon ...  8-)

Anyone close to the speakers should use plugs, the levels are meant to be spread out across the room, and standing too close is potentially dangerous. I was way back, and even I plugged my ears just to be safe. I'm used to it, so maybe I'm a bit sensitive, but I won't risk any damage to the mixing ears, higher frequencies drop out fast when you're exposed to loud volumes over time. Ringing ears is a sign of overload.

Custom plugs are great, they don't mess up the sound at all. It's worth the investment :)

Just a guess but I'm thinking that the reason I didn't find it too loud was that I've already f'd up me lugs!!
