I love this band. Hilarious and weird. A sense of humor in music is a necessity.

For those who haven't heard this legendary band, you MUST check out these videos. Or at least the first two. This kind of music inspired so many shitty bands, it's a shame these guys aren't still together.

An awesome live performance of just about the most bugged out song you'll ever hear:

Random song off their final album. Sick shit.

EDIT: Liquid, and wickedwitch
In your opinion what was their best album? Honestly I've always leaned towards california because of the musical evolution they went in... but lately I've been really appreciating disco volante. It is literally the most bugged out album I've ever heard.

i like california, tbh its the one i listen to most of the time. I just find it more accessible and i can play most of it in the kitchen without freaking out the kids!

Love them - saw them in Nottingham in 2000, reet good gig.

Have all three LPs and like them all in their own special way, but particularly like California as it seems more emotional than the first two.

The first album will always be my fave....just mental and brilliant.
Seen them live twice....amazing.

Ugh.. you guys are so fuckin lucky to have seen them live. Unfortunately I just got into them a few years back, far after they broke up. Just know how lucky you guys are

Definitely true how mental the first album is. My Ass is on Fire is by far one of the greatest Bungle songs. There is no way one can listen to that song and not want to throw shit around and break everything around them.

You know what it's also really cool that people on here that listen to Frost* can also appreciate a band like this. I guess we all really do know good music when we hear it. I'm glad I'm not the only one that can relate to both these very different types of music.

i like jazz and folk too. i think its a bit sad when people are so 'into' one type of music that they dismiss everything else - even to the point of only liking 'one sort' of prog for example.  just bizarre! i'll give just about anything a go - there is some Mr bungle stuff that i dont like just as there is some prog stuff that i really cant listen to without wincing.

Mike Patton is a sick genius. "California" is very accessible, but he also has some quite bizarre projects. I still like the Faith No More stuff, btw.

California is my favorite, as they take their avant-garde ideas and actually make high quality, listenable music from them.

See they're a whole different topic, but still one of the best bands that ever lived. Their music always changed as the years went on, and they still kept it interesting. I don't think they have 1 bad song. I'd KILL for them to reunite. Patton said in an interview last year that he wouldn't rule it out and if the money was right, he'd get back with them.

The first album is truly great. But California - wow!! What do we have here? Hmm, metal, doo-wop, and arabic music.  And it works!

First impressions do count.  My mate Vambo pointed me in the direction of Faith No More then i heard a couple of Mr Bungle songs on youtube via that and i was humming them for days. I was on ebay the same week!

Have any of you guys heard the 4 demos previous to the self titled album. The 4th one 'OU818' was killer...had songs that would be on the first album and a song called Mr Nice Guy which was awesome. The earlier demos were fairly ska influenced...worth a listen if you can find them. Their used to be a really cool ftp site called bunglefever....had everything bungle and bungle related (live shows, side projects, radio interviews etc) It seems to be down now unfortunately.

You can still d/l some tracks from here

The older demos are really funny. OU818 is excellent. The intro is hilarious and I like the version of Squeeze me macaroni on that one better than the album version. It's sick as hell.

Have you ever heard the really old demo Bowel of Chiley? The track 'jumping part 2' is hilarious. When he says mr. potato head, I always get a laugh. genius shit though.

I remember seeing FNM performing "War Pigs" at Rock City in Nottingham, summer '89; The Real Thing had just been released and Mike Patton was the "new singer".  Well powerful!

You know whats weird, I feel like they were tighter in the old days...

Then again the music from California has just GOT to be hard to pull off live... They do a good job in most cases though. Especially with Ars Moriendi. None of them knew is always kinda shakey though. But think about it, just listening to that song... it's gotta be fucking hard to play live. Especially with all the samples and crazy weird guitar parts...

Now I know it's the right place for me to talk about music. :)
I don't have to say that everything Mike Patton touches turns to gold, cause we all know that, right, but man, Mr Bungle music has been with me through my whole life (so has Faith No More, which I think saved my sanity) and it never wears out. The first album (1 year older than me! [[edit: I mean younger.]]) was awesome, Disco Volante too, but what they did on California was unrepeatable. One of my top 10 albums ever. I could write a 300 pages essay about the experience of listening to California, but that wouldn't still describe how great it is.
Now I'm off to listen to Pink Cigarette. (*_*)
