Hi,
Thanks to the efforts of the talented RacingHippo we have this 'ere new forum to play with.
Hopefully this will free us from the constraints of the older software that was running on the previous version.
So, what do you think?
Anything broken that needs fixing?
Anything that could be done to make things better?
Post to this thread and I'll (try to remember to) update this post with a "ToDo" list of issues that we can hopefully get resolved.
Over to you good people...
A few things already mentioned.
Things to do1. Tapatalk support Resolved2. External links open in a separate window Resolved3. A new visual theme
Hints'n'tips1a. If you would like your
Messages ordered so the most recent is shown first (like the old forum did) :-
- Click "My Messages".
- Hover over "Preferences" and click "Change Settings".
- Make sure the checkbox for "Show most recent personal messages at top." is checked. .
- Click "Change Settings" at the bottom-right.
1b. If you would like to do the same for
Forum posts (like the old forum didn't) :-
- Hover over "Profile" and click "Forum Profile"
- Hover over "Modify profile" and click "Look and layout"
- Make sure the checkbox for "Show most recent posts at the top." is checked.
- Click "Change Profile" at the bottom-right.
2. The default setting for the boards is that after you post, it kicks you back out to the main boards and/or sub-boards. To stop this :-
- Hover over "Profile" and click "Forum Profile"
- Hover over "Modify profile" and click "Look and layout"
- Make sure the checkbox for "Return to topics after posting by default" is checked.
- Click "Change Profile" at the bottom-right.

To put the messages with newest first, is that a preference I have to make?
It maybe a simple machines forum but..............

Yes, that you can do in your Profile Settings, Look & Layout prefs. Down towards the bottom.

Simple machines for simple people Mikey :)
No complaints here. Just a slow, hard clap of gratitude.
Is there a way to see 'active topics' like the old forum? I feel that being all young or whatever I should immediately know this, alas I do not.
No "Active Topics" that I know of, but you can quickly see all "Unread posts since last visit" up by your profile picture.
Is being "emailable" the default? I noted that I had to change my preferences to get rid of the little envelope on my profile which accompanies postings. I'm sure I didn't have that set up on the old forum.
Posted this in the other thread but still.....
The default setting for the boards is that after you post, it kicks you back out to the main boards and/or sub-boards. Annoying.
To stop this follow these instructions. Once you do this, when you post a reply in a thread (or start a new thread) it will take you back to said post/thread. Sounds confusing. It's not. Honest.
Click 'Profile' at the top of the page (next to the word 'Search')
Then hover over 'Modify Profile' and click 'Look and Layout'
Then make sure there is a tick in the box marked 'Return to topics after posting by default'
Scroll down the page and click the 'Save Profile' button on the bottom right-hand side of the page.
Has anyone noticed text in some old threads has become ABSOLUTELY GIGANTIC (like, 1-inch high letters)?
Lots of posts say they were edited by Guest on Jan 1970 (presumably a date needs to be NULL instead of 0).
Forum titles with emoticons in don't show the images.
Pretty much everything is marked as unread. I'm calling Forum Bankruptcy for now and marking all as read.
Yes, to all but the gigantic letters...I haven't seen that one yet.
It seems the transfer has been far from seamless.
The term "Seamless Transfer" is an oxymoron, obviously ;)

Same here.
But, I think it actually went' pretty well. IIRC when we last switched (this is No. 3, right?), it was much worse.

No, at least 4 could be 5 but at least 4. I'd say it went pretty well. The last change I believe we started with a fresh forum (Again).

Having said that are we counting this upgrade as a separate entity? If not then 3 possibly 4 :). I remember the Informe forum before this, the one before that I clearly remember and for some reason I'm thinking there was one before that but that didn't last very long before that "First Proper" one came along.
Not sure this tapatalk malarkey is "all that".
I have bought it twice now, once on this phone and once on my tablet (special version).
Just tried to modify the first post on this thread using the tablet and it let me edit it but hitting "send" claimed it had updated the post but it is clearly lying. On this phone it won't let me even edit the post...unless I chose the moderate option.
Ropey...
Wonder if this post will appear?
I'm still not keen to buy mobile apps (yet), but I think a mobile version of a forum is likely better than a browser version on a phone.
I find that I'm liking the "News" posting in the upper right, though. Useful info.
I have no problem browsing and posting on forums via my phones browser. I don't need an app to do that.
I am seeing a couple of things acting a bit differently in Tapatalk with the Frost* forums rather than the Tinyfish forums, but I'm still exploring settings, etc., to see if it is something that I might have set differently. There is also that the Tinyfish forum is SMF 1.1.18 rather than the SMF 2.0.4 that the Frost* forum is running. Therefore there is likely to be some things that will different Tapatalk-wise.
patience, grasshoppers! ;D
A question for the Mods:
When we see SPAM on the forum do you want us to use the "Report to Moderator" function or does that result in you getting too many notifications?
Or shall we just ignore it and trust that you'll see it and delete it without the need for prompting by us?
In the Celebr8.2 thread in gigs http://frostmusic.net/forum/index.php?topic=3427.0
What I see is it get's to progdog's post and then cuts off and there's a box full of HTML code

But what if we need new kitchens? More seriously, does this mean security , or whatever, needs upping? :(
PS I like the unread posts bit

It was that ProgDog's sig. It seems that SMF doesn't like dog-germs.

I would say Notify, but I'm a new Mod and don't know how it's been. ;D

I'd rather be inundated with mod reports than miss something. I'd go with report.
Yeah, please let us know.
We try to be ever watchful but time is the scarce commodity so we might not look at every new post until some time later in the day.
Ok will use the report option if I see Spam

well, I try to be moderate.
<------------------------ OK, what are these bloomin block things. I can see some connections between Admins - blue, Supreme Webmeister - orange and the remaining hoi polloi in yellow. However the number of blocks seem to reflect the number of posts, except that Pedders is leading the pack at 6k odd and he's got the same number as the others, and in terms of block quantity, you seem to get more yellows per post than blue ones.

Pedro is a moderator , Mods (Blue) and Admins (Red) seem to have a set number of blocks (5) rather than one that's linked to their post count
That seems to make sense. ;D
Well, if mods and admins had blocks commensurate with their post counts, they'd fill the whole page!
I think they ought to be biscuits, not blocks. Someone ask the admins if they can arrange it.

I have a bad feeling about this...

Actually, RIP Richard LeParmentier, the actor who played Darth Vader's "Force-choke" victim (above), who died on Tuesday this week.
Oh no, really? That's a shame. :(
I was just going to demand the whereabouts of Mr. Green. There are lots of new emoticons hanging around up there ^ but not my grinning green fellow. Bah!
Tapatalk is working!!
