It's started out as a complete overhaul of "You/I" but then I got a bit carried away! :D
It eventually goes back to that song but... well..... it's a 6 minute track now.
You and I experiments (RWA-remix) (//http://www.box.net/rwa/1/29271560/303391972/1)
Tell me what you think.
Very nice! I like the Portnoy drumming style and the whole strings part... :)
You clever barstool you!! Thats a bit good. :D
...brilliant! Thats fantastic! :D
Goodness me....once upon a time there was a bar....then it got raised....completely.
Stupendous work, Ron. :)
Thanks!
It was a handful all right. I'm used to writing my own stuff so "time stretching" and "sample slicing" was not a part of my vocabulary really. Therefore it was a very learning experiment and lots of fun to do.
Didn't mean to re-write anything Jem did but the material is just to inspiring to work on. As I said, I got a bit carried away. ;)
Still not happy about the overall sound because "mastering" is fairly new to me also. I'm used to having Chris (Brown) taking care of that. I might have him take a look at that.
ab-fab, Ron! really enjoying this!
Very good! :D
Nice work!
On a side note, I checked out your myspace, and I really liked the songs on there too!
That is rather splendid, I am most impressed. :D
Excellent RWA !! enjoyed listening to that...cool
Would be really interested to know how you worked on this...did you have some original stems for this?
Thanks for sharing..
All the best :D
Very, very nice!
Thats well good.
Love the whole feel of it.
Have to say I love it too :)
I simply LOVE the melody in You/I and it awesome to hear it against full instrumentaion.
Makes me want to have a go now!! :)
Hat off to you sir :)
Nice one Ron!
I would really like to know what Jem thinks of this. :D
Hey Ronald, could be worse!! ;)
(It's a compliment were we come from)
Very cool Ron...sounds great!!
btw did you use the sounds of the td-6 it self? And what about those voices? did you sing them yourself or did you rip them somehow?
Thanks everyone. :)
Quote from: "Bokkie"btw did you use the sounds of the td-6 it self? And what about those voices? did you sing them yourself or did you rip them somehow?
Played on a TD6 but the sounds are from DFH Superior.
And I protect the world from my voice; it's all original vocals.
Jem gave me the original vocals for You/I; the parts from EIMA are from the CD. It would be even better to have those vocals tracks as well.... but honestly I didn't want to push it. The man is busy enough as it is and in that perspective it was nice enough of him to take the time to send me the part from You/I.
The song You/I doesn't have a steady rhythm since it's a piano ballad so I had to slice the parts up to make them flow better. The original tempo is around 94 bpm and I shifted it to 105 bpm. The original idea was to add some orchestration to the You/I vocals because it indeed is a lovely melody. Then it hit me I could squeeze EIMA into it afer changing the tempo of that as well. Since I played all the music to the first half of the song myself I continued doing that all over the song as sonic glue. Of course you hear the entire band in all the EIMA parts since that was ripped straight off the CD.
Anyway, it was great fun working on this and see it as an ode to Frost*. :)
And it's absolutely fantastic Ron.
Very cool, Ron!
Hee Ron, this is brilliant! :) Or, as Bokkie said, it could be worse :P
Simply love it.
Added to the expanding RWA file on my computer.

Oh dear....... ;)
makes me need to go to the bathroom...
Ron, that's fantastic, I really enjoyed the listen !
I'm seriously conisdering getting off my butt to find a hat that I can take off to you for that. That was a very interesting remix and it didn't feel long in any way. Nicely done!!!

So... I almost made you getting off your butt!
Not what I had in mind when I made this but a very impressive side effect nevertheless! :D
Wow - I really love this! This makes me listen to the song in a whole new way. The string lines that you put in are great - very PT-esque in my mind, well without it being so gloomy ;) Great stuff man! (And nice drumming!)
Huge amounts of respect from my dark side!
Liked the new way of doing the chords, and the chaotic ending is nice! :D
(in addition to the rest... ;) )
It is most excellent RWA! And how did you do them there drums? They're superb! :D

Thanks Mouse. :)
I've played the drums myself on a Roland e-kit but instead of using the drum module sounds I used the sounds from DFH Superior which are WAY more realistic.

You're telling me they sound more realistic!
Unfortunately any drums on my own work is always me drawing in every single note on Cubase using some incredibly artificial sounding VST. :(
Which is why recently I've been experimenting with 808-style drum machine sounds to overcome the problem! :)
Can I just say what you have done with this track is amazing, its made me a first time poster after keeping quiet all this time.
Hey Airlie,welcome to the board!

Welcome, welcome and thrice welcome! :D
Hey Ron,
I don't know how I missed this when you first posted it, but I grabbed a slice last week. It's been on my PC at work and I've played it almost to death these past few days. The chord progressions are just amazing! I love the layering of the pads and the harmonies, goosebump inducing or what. :o :D Added to that, as a lot of the others have pointed out is the drumming, nicely sitting in the mix and interesting in it's own right, if that makes sense. Makes it a track you can listen to in many ways, if that makes sense too! Personally I think the mix is pretty damn good. It's easy to forget it's based on EIMA tracks, as these are so seamlessly blended in. Bloody good show!! Well done and I hope you are proud of it, cos you should be! :D

Thanks for all that Brom! I'm glad you like it. :)
I haven't spend much time in this section so I thought it was about time to thrawl through it again.
This one is an amazing piece of work and if anything it proves that there is some serious talent at work here. The ultimate tribute of course would be if the band themselves picked up this arrangement and played it live preferably in Holland :D
Goed gedaan !!!
Just been listening to this (and the other stuff on your site) and there's not much that I can say that hasn't already been covered in the thread, it truely is stupendous.
I think it's time to give this thread a massive BUMP.
Ron's take on You/I and EIMA is a masterpiece that get's frequent plays on my iPod.
Check it out!

Thanks for the BUMP... touché! ;)
I just love the mix.
Great drums, beautiful guitar work... excellent!
Thanks for the bump Pedro. :)
I'm in the mood for another remix. No idea what it will be or when it will be finished or if it will be approved by the United Nations and NASA but we'll cross that bridge when we get there.
Glad this was bumped. Nice job RWA!
wow, i'm loving this ron, it's brilliant ...... no,it's beyoodiful
Back again .. just to say .. this is fabulous. Good work sir.
Linkie No Workie!
You're right Jim, linkie indeedie no workie! ;)
Yes, I know. I'm re-arranging my Box.net account and folder structure for the sake of the FFCS (Frost Forum Collab Song). I'll be back with the correct link once that is fingered out.
And I'm back! How fast is that?!

Wow! Simply - wow!
It's a shame we never got a Jem-comment about this one - I'm sure it would have been very positive.
I wonder if we could get Frost* to actually play this version live? That would be something to hear.
Have just listened to this, absofarkingly brilliant! sent shivers down my spine splendid stuff Ron
Not really my sort of thing, but it is a good remix for what it is. Good job.
