Title: RoSFest Intro now up on Last.FM
Post by: tomskerous on May 03, 2009, 11:40:23 PM
As Lord Godfrey's chief scrobble-wrangler, it's with great joy that I can tell you the RoSFest intro is now available to listen to, nay even download, from the Live Intros collection (//http://www.last.fm/music/Frost%2A/Live+Intros) on Frost*'s Last.fm page.

Enjoy.

In fact, if you don't laugh out loud, I'd recommend medical help.

That is just hilarious. IQ sometimes has pretty funny intros but the Frost intros trump them I think.

Hee hee...    Cheers Tom! I couldn't work out how to get the site to play it, so I just downloaded it instead. It's got me grinning from ear to ear!

After watching the Hyperventilate video, I'd thought the intro tape sounded a bit like the Spam Up advert tune thing.    Thank God that's been corrected immediately.

For me it's reminiscent of the opening track to They Might Be Giants 'Flood'.

Only with all my favourite tricks from the overture to 'Cats' thrown in too.

Don't tell him, but he's really rather good at this, isn't he? :)

That is pure genius I wish I could have seen the crowds faces when that was playing :D

I was literally biting down hard on my lip not to laugh out loud - didn't want to miss anything! *listens again*

Oh my, that is just way too good.

How the hell does Jem find the time to concoct something this silly? I was grinning from ear to ear while listening to this crazy intro.  :D

edit: on a totally serious note, Jem: how long did it take you to do this? I mean, with sound design and everything. Surely you didn't just come across some samples that you used and raped for this? If I were to create something like this, it'd cost me hours just doing the sound design. Then again, I suck. Terribly.

Stupendous.
I'm with Philadelphia on the lip-damage.
Fortunately I can listen to it again and again ;)
And I know a Small Boy who'll love it, too, and I suspect will soon (try to) sing "W-O-N-D-E-R-F-U-L Frooooooooost!" at every opportunity :D

Try as I might, it deffo sounds more like "W-O-N-D-R-E-F-U-L" to my old ears. Like a delicious theatre->theater exchange-rate thing! :D

Brilliant!

Jem's becoming more Rundgren-esque with the passing years. I put the few remaining differences between them down to tea, biscuits, hair and Bebe Buell.

The RosFest one on this page (//http://www.last.fm/music/Frost%2A/Live+Intros) appears to have a download link next to it.
Don't know about the other one....

now we need the little bits when he introduced the band!

Nick said, "My own band doesn't even give me a song!"

Oh, for gawd's sake, will you just stop making us all feel so bloody inadequate, Mr Godfrey? Next thing you'll tell us is that you knocked that off between passport control and customs on arrival in Amerikky.

But as I was listening, I had an itchy feeling I'd heard something like it before, marching feet against massed strings, archly plummy English vocals, and especially the rise and fall phrasing of the line "where it always raaaaaaaiiins" ...

Ah ha! Anyone else own The Enid's "In the Region of the Summer Stars (1984)"? I'm sure there's a tune on there Jem's intro reminds me of: will have to check at home this evening.

[Oops: edit: must be "Raindown" off "Something Wicked This Way Comes", but which contains at least one re-played track from "In the Region ... (1984)".]

Of course, it only goes to also remind me of a certain shared surname I've always been very suspicious about ... albeit it's very (very) unlikely ... :D

(And bloody hell, a wee google reveals that The Enid have a new album out and are playing three gigs this month: anyone going? I saw them once half a bazillion years ago and thought they were jolly good, even if mightily bombastic).

Thanks, Pedro: must've missed that one.

So what do you reckon re: the Rosfest intro being related at one remove to Raindown?  :D

Your "old ears" are completely right.
The subtlety missed me first time around; as with so many Frost* lyrics, there's always a bit you don't get until you've listened a few times :D

I wasn't at all sure even after listening several times: weird how the brain works ... but slow it down to 70% speed and it's obvious ...  :D

Yes, but not with good sound. You can watch it on YouTube but it's just a lot of arm-waving and stuff. I think there are moves afoot to try to sort it out but I don't know how it's going.

This was a brilliant Frost* gig and this intro - pure genius. Classic Godfrey! :D Something Python-esque about it - right up my boulevard.

As for the intros for each band member later on in the set - hilarious!!

Nick did a stunning job, and everyone was on top form. I also think Jem's voice was 'up there' too - never enough mention is made of his vocals, so I'm bigging them up now. Top drawer.

Apart from enjoying our own little stint on stage on Sunday morning :D  - I'm trying not to be biased, but - this was THE gig for me as a member of the audience.

The only gig I sat through from start to finish without buying a Yeungling beer....that's seriously good... ;)

Massive congrats to the whole band.

I was very impressed with Jem's vocals throughout the set and think anyone who questions his singing ability doesn't know what they're talking about.  I love his tone, enunciation, that little bit of rasp he sometimes uses... it's all good.  And he definitely shined at RoSFest.  Just listen to Snowman.  Excellent.

Is it just me, or does it remind anyone else of the Arnold J Rimmer song in Red Dwarf?

No, it's not just you....but I only make the connection because, as Rob also implies, such a work of genius is crying out for visuals to go with it.
The version that plays out in my head looks marvellous!
