Thanks all.  I'll be presenting the results to my class on Tuesday.  If you guys are curious I can let you know how it turns out.   :D

Ah, sorry about that!  Thanks for your participation.  To clear up any further confusion:

Hey all,

Over in the states I'm conducting some research in grad school about music listening habits.  I'm trying to get as many respondents as possible.  It only takes about 3-4 minutes, so if you guys could take it, and pass it on, I would greatly appreciate it.  Thanks, everyone

Thanks for the kind words, everyone :)

I'll be sure to post the best of news on the internship at Skywalker Sound if that should be the case.  I can't imagine my boss being George Lucas, a man who has had such an impact on my life (I'm a huge Star Wars nerd), and an impact on the world in general as far as how movies are made, and that Star Wars is the biggest thing ever to happen to pop culture.  :o

But I digress.

I'm currently working on improving my craft by reading many trade books and things like that.

Perhaps I will post the interview in a bit, if Jem has no problems with it.

Thanks again, everyone  :D

Well, first of all, I haven't posted here much though I've been a member for a few months now.  So sorry, and more importantly, hello everybody!  :)

Secondly, I'm an American student, recent university graduate with a BAA in Broadcast and Cinematic Arts, with a concentration in audio production (music engineering, SFX, ADR, radio spot production, etc.).  For my senior seminar we had to interview a professional with a similar profession that we hope to have someday, and Jem, being the generous fellow that he is, was just nice enough to give me a nice, beefy interview.  :D

Anyhow, the audio unit head here has become a bit of a fan of mine and offered me a position as a graduate assistant, which I initially declined because I had no intention of going to grad school.  However, after weighing everything out I found out the position held a fair amount of benefits, but the words from the interview especially rang true to me as I remembered them.

"Say yes to everything".  In the context of finding work, this phrase did me a lot of good.  It was far from the only enlightening thing about the interview, but I think it's something everyone should keep in mind.  So I changed my mind and said "yes" to the GA position.  :)

So now instead of being an out-of-work daydreamer, I'm going for a Master's Degree in Electronic Media Production, exempt of tuition with moderate pay as well!  I will be teaching audio production and be the head of the student record label, which is very exciting.

So things seem to be going my way.  So much that I've set a new goal for myself, to get an internship at Skywalker Sound next summer.  Fingers crossed.

Sorry this has been so lengthy, I just had a lot to say.  And I figured it would be better to share the information that helped me with everyone here rather than spam poor Jem's email.

Remember that every opportunity can only bring out more experience and chances for improvement.  Best wishes, everyone.

Great album!  Probably their best effort since Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence.  :o

Nice setup, I hope to have something like that going someday when I have my own place after college.

It's good to see another Dream Theater fan here as well.

Will do, if I have the chance.  I just finished the audio for a Rayovac commercial, I would love to post it but we don't have the authoring software for 5.1 material.  I'm fairly pleased with the results except the VO is a little too reverberant, oh well.  The SFX are pretty neat.

Thanks for the warm welcome.

I should try and get into music production more, I signed up for a music prod class but unfortunately I was the only one that signed up so it never took place.  I am volunteering for our record label though, and I'm recording some stuff for a music demo as well.  Maybe I'll post some of that here when it's through.

I should watch more Frost* reports for some more info.  I am actually interviewing Jem about a production career assignment in my capstone course.

Pajter, I gave your stuff a listen and I liked it a lot.  You have a real sense of melody, which is what I value the most in music.  I would also love to work with music for a living, I play keyboards and I drum a little as well.

Hello, new to the forum.

I'm an audio production student in college, graduating in May.  I've got to record some music as well as some radio spots, PSA's, demos, etc.  I got to do all the mixing, mastering, editing, and all that good stuff and now I'm starting to do some audio for video as well.

I figure since Frost* has such an emphasis on production I wondered if anyone here is into that sort of thing.

Anyone do this for a living?  For a hobby?  Any tricks of the trade?  I'd also like to hear anything you guys have produced if you feel like sharing.
