Other Bands / Headspace - I Am Anonymous
June 23, 2012, 04:49:41 PM
I was told about this band by a friend of mine...
The musician line up is very impressive(Adam Wakeman(Rick Wakemans son.. plays with Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath at the mo) - Keys, Damien Wilson(Threshold, Star One) - Vocals, Lee Pomeroy (It Bites, Take That and many more)- Bass, Richard Brooks (Go West, Sugarbabes, ABC etc) - Drums, Pete Rinaldi - Guitar).. and the band sound brilliant.
Really enjoying the cd at the moment...

Gear Corner / Jems Kronos?!!!
December 20, 2011, 12:38:47 PM
Hi,
Just wondering how Jem feels about the Kronos after gigging with it? Sounds great from the videos I've seen on Youtube(of the gig on Friday).
I have one myself and am still programming it up too gig (its unbelievably powerfull!!!). I'm still at that stage of getting stuck on a sound and just playing it for ages.. rather than programming it!! I simply get lost in it :?

Anyone else on here having fun with a Kronos? :)

Other Bands / Lalle Larsson Etc.
December 20, 2011, 12:31:44 PM
I've recently been listening to a lot of material that involves Lalle Larsson on keyboards. He's an amazing player.
I'd recommend any of the following:

Karmakanic - In A Perfect World (Brilliant cd.. sounds a bit like Yes in places)
Agents Of Mercy - The Black Forest (Slightly heavier than Roine Stolts(TFK) usual stuff but very good)
Lalle Larssons - Weaveworld
Infinity Of Worlds (Both instrumental fusion type stuff)

Check them out...
I'm now a big fan of Lalle Larssons stuff :D

Ask Frost* / Is the Islington gig still happening?
December 02, 2010, 11:08:57 AM
I know it's a horrible question but I feel it needs to be asked. The weather seems to be getting worse day by day (round my area anyway) so I was just wondering if there are any plans to postpone this gig to another date (if possible!!!).
I don't want it to be cancelled but I also don't want to be stuck in the middle of nowhere on a train (if they're even running tomorrow!!) or car (even more unlikely!!).

Can Jem and the guys even get there?!!!!!

Any news on the situation would be great.
Cheers :)

I know how you feel. :(

I too am concerned as to if this gig is gonna happen!!!! I live in the south east (Dover area) and I'm struggling to plan how I'll get there.

My main concern is if the gig is actually going to happen. I see that the Manning gig has been cancelled for tomorrow!!!

Can anyone shed some light on the situation? :)

Other Bands / Re: Transatlantic: tour dates 2010
October 08, 2010, 10:27:56 AM
All though I'm not a massive fan of "The Whirlwind" I ordered my copy (5 disc version) from Radiant Records a couple of nights ago.... After reading all the reviews of the shows I can't wait to actually see it. I've got all their dvds and cds so far so I need to keep upto date. I may listen to The Whirlwind on the way home from work tonight.. See if I can get my head around it this time.
I saw Transatlantic many years ago and thoroughly enjoyed the gig... This DVD sounds very promising!!!!! :D

Other Bands / Re: Pain of Salvation - Road Salt
October 07, 2010, 11:35:16 AM
I was really not impressed with Road Salt... I'll have to give it another go to be fair. 8-)

I love "BE". It's an amazing cd.. along with the dvd of the live performance. I also like "Scarsick" and "One Hour By The Concrete Lake".

Daniel is an amazing singer.... One of the best as far as I'm concerned. Such power and emotion. Very theatrical in places.

The recent Live dvd (Ending Themes...) is brilliant as well... An extremely tight band. :D

Gear Corner / Re: D-50
October 07, 2010, 11:23:45 AM
I've been using my Roland D-50 since I was at school (a few years ago now.... 20 to give you an idea). Even on my avatar picture there is a D50 (not that you can see it but it's the keyboard on top in front of me). Yes it has some lovely sounds - Spacious Sweep, Rock Organ, OK Choralle (Ice Melts into water), Shakuhaki(sorry for the spelling as I can't remember it), Jump Sound (I programmed this for the Van Halen Track and it's massive), Horn Section(which I prefer to most brass sections on modern synths), Digital Native Dance (David Lee Roth). I've got masses of patches for it. Mainly downloaded from the net over many years. I also have the original sound card that came with it. I think I paid about £1200 for it when I got it....

Jem has used a few of the D50 sounds on his material. Black light Machine has aa few of them...

Unfortunatly mine has been stored away for the last 8 months as I haven't needed it but it'll be out and about again shortly!!! :D I did consider selling it but then I woke up from that horrible dream

It's a fantastic keyboard ;)

Frost* / Re: New Frost report

I was very pleasantly surprised to find the new report....
I had my headphones on, plugged into my laptop, whilst my wife was watching the tele.. I couldn't help but laugh out loud  It just tickled me at so many points. They are all quite mad.

That's musicians for ya!!!! :D

I'd love to go down the laptop route... But I have a worry factor that it'll get dropped or something and that'll be it!!!!
Recent gear lust is as follows (this will change for sure)

Kurzweil PC3
Nord Electro 3
Roland Fantom G6

Don't want much do I? :D

Gear Corner / Re: Jem's New Keyboard Rig
October 06, 2010, 02:10:28 PM
Jem has this incredible effect on me.... Just when I think I'm happy with my gear I see a video of him playing a Fantom G and my lust starts all over again!!!! I'm still playing all the presets on my Fantom x and I know it is capable of so much more... But the G seems that much more powerfull.. Especially in hands of a genius like Jem. Jealous?... Dead right I am!!!!  ;)

Back on the subject... Nice rig :D . Does what it needs to. Especially the, mentioned so many times on here already, jazz section
Can't wait to see it in action in December. Also looking forward to the DVD when it's done.... I'm sure it'll be well worth the wait.  :)

I suppose it's just what you're used too...  :) Everyones opinions vary on keyboards otherwise only one company would make any money!!!!! I've been using Korgs for a good few years and have done everything i need from them ... so i can't complain. As I said, the piano sound on the Triton classic is awful compared to todays standards but in all fairness i don't think the general public care that much about it.... No one has ever come up to me and said "that piano sound is awful" or words to that effect!!! I do like the sounds of the Fantom X and I wish I had the time to do it justice but time is scarce these days so I'll make do with what I'm used too.
As far as I'm aware the Fantom X pads do not work as numbers(not for patch changes anyway)... that was introduced on the Gs.  ;)

Ps. I still can't get the patches of Jems too work!!!!! Frustrated I am!!!

Gear Corner / Re: Gear Lust - Autumn Edition

I'm waiting for the next big workstation..... Whoever releases it!!!!
I'd love a new Korg though (as I'm used to the work procedures on them). But I'd love to know what Kurzweil have up their sleeve as I'm a big admirer of the PC3.  ;)
I'm moving towards more vintage sounds these days (not so synthy) so I'd like a Clavia Nord Electro 3 (or similar) as I know they sound lovely for organ and vintage keys. Ideally I'd like to get hold of a Nord Electro 2 Rack.. cheaper and just play it through my current keyboards.
Still so many choices.... Will it ever end!!!!!!
If I had the money I'd spend a fortune on keys galore.......

Superb musician indeed. A brilliant guitarist as well... Some very tasteful playing indeed. :D
I checked out his videos on YouTube yesterday and found some great concert footage (took me back to my childhood as I was a big Nik Kershaw fan in the 80's) from the 80's and they still sound amazing today. It shocked me just how good it sounded as I tend to cringe at some of the stuff I used to listen to.. but this was definatly an exception. Check them out if you get the chance.. You won't be dissapointed.

Also recommend "Radio Musicola" which is another amazing album of his. In particular "L.A.B.A.T.Y.D.", "Life Goes On" and "Violet To Blue".... Beautiful stuff. :D
