Gigs / Re: Frost*Bites 16th December 2012
December 17, 2012, 08:38:33 PM
I had a great time at the gig, and managed to nab a good position on one of the raised areas on the lowest level.  It was great to hear a lot of the material again, and new stuff as well.

Gigs / Re: Progressive Promotion Festival (21.+22.9.12)

I'm making one of my rare visits to the forum and spotted this item.

I decided to go along to this one, and I had two great days at the festival.  If the line up is anything near as good as this year's, I'll be there again next year.  My only quibble was that finishing about 1am was rather difficult for me...  But I really enjoyed Moon Safari, Believe, Lazuli, Sunchild and Seven Steps.

I love the whole thing - the presentation, the album - which is even better in 5.1 - and even the "making of".

Looking at the calendar reminds me how good that Frost* are.  I'm looking forward to Frostbites even more.

I was lucky enough to see them in Ruesselsheim and Lydney.  I saw them at Winter's End as well - they are very very special.  Basically no one can do what these guys do.

Matt's both a fine guitarist and a lovely person.  I missed that gig.  Last time I saw him play he was standing on a pile of haybales in the middle of a field not very near Reading.

I enjoy listening to Gonzo's show and being in the chat.  But, being on Saturday evening, I'm often out out at some gig or other.  This weekend it's VHB.

Twang has sold 220.  And they went REALLY quickly.

Oh I hope so.  When Magenta were here I was so nervous.  I feel much calmer this time.  Thinking about the Magenta show, I realise that a member of Frost* was actually in my house.

I hope you have a great time.  It's rare that I miss a show at the Peel and I'm particularly gutted to miss this one.  Dec and Matt.  I saw them both at the Peel a couple of years ago and both came off the stage absolutely shattered.

Other Bands / Caamora - House Gig - 14October
September 09, 2011, 09:57:33 PM
This is what Caamora have to say:

One more 'She' fundraiser house gig has been confirmed for October 14th (doors open at 7.30pm). The event will take place in Wokingham, UK and will feature Clive Nolan, Agnieszka Swita and Mark Westwood. More artists to be announced soon. Audience space limited to 30, so be quick! ...

This is my bit:

The "gig" will be here, in Wokingham which is a few miles east of Reading.  Trains to Wokingham go from London Waterloo and take about 60 minutes.  I live about 20 minutes walking distance from the station.  By car, use junction 3 of the M3 (from south London) or junction 10 of the M4 (from most other places).  I will create maps to assist anyone arriving by train or car if necessary.

The idea here is that Caamora is putting on the "She" musical at a theatre in Cheltenham in February next year, and we are trying to raise money to support the production.

I saw the show in the Netherlands last week and it is very good indeed.  If you don't know, "She" is a book written by Rider Haggard about an immortal queen, brilliantly played in the show by Agnieszka Swita.

Clive is still working out who will be here, but it will be him, Agnieszka & (probably) Mark Westward, plus possibly a couple of other people.  He told me that each of these shows is different and so this will be a unique experience.  It is possible that there will be songs from some of Clive's other bands.

If you want to attend, please let me know - PM would be the best and I can give you costs and any other details that you might need.

Other Bands / Re: Magenta - Chameleon Project - UPDATE

Pedro's mix is really good.  It's not usual for Rob to put out any mixes that he didn't do himself.  Indeed, as far as I'm aware, the only of person to mix one of his & Tina's songs is Jem.

The 4th track on the album is out - a wonderfully crafted classical guitar piece (like Steve Hackett) written and performed by Chris Fry.

Any Other Business / Re: The Picture

Quote from: "Pedro"Hmm...that image would lend itself to the things they used to print in kids magazines where you were supposed to paste the image of the figure to a piece of card and cut around it. Came with a selection of different outfits (with little tabs at the edges) that could be cut out and hung on the figure.
But which outfits would suit the dynamic Mr JamesA?
That HAS to be done.

I know nothing about mixing.  I'll leave that to those who are clever enough to do such things - Pedro, Mouse...

It's a no brainer for me - the 5.1 release alone is worth the extra £7.

I think that we should start a petition for equality of months - it really isn't fair that April should only have 30 days when others have 31.

Tickets for Kingston: booked.
Hotel for Bilston: booked.
I'm going to take a punt and hope that Riffs & Bilston are not sold out.
