I checked this band out after hearing Jem mention them in Bert's interview, and they are genuinely properly the most exciting band I've heard of in AGES. If anyone's curious and on Spotify, I highly recommend checking out their latest full length album Lasting Echo, here. Seriously. Do it.  ;)

Other Bands / Oceansize Split Up
« on: February 25, 2011, 12:14:47 PM »

Dear Friends,

We regret to inform you that Oceansize has split up.

An explanation for this occurrence is neither forthcoming or indeed necessary.
All that remains is to say THANK YOU for being there for us. It's been a very eventful and life-affirming 12 years.

We'll miss you.

There will be more music from each of us as soon as possible.

Well... I guess that's that then...  :(

Other Bands / Opeth - New album next year
« on: December 04, 2010, 10:56:38 AM »
Good news everyone! Opeth posted this on facebook earlier:

That's right! Opeth will start the recording of their 10th album on the 31st January 2011. The band has picked the legendary Atlantis studios (ex Metronome studios) in Stockholm and will once again work with Jens Bogren engineering. Mixing duties will be handled by Steven Wilson (Porcupine tree). Possible release world...wide in the fall of 2011, through Roadrunner Records.

This could be superb, especially with old Stevey Wilson at the mixing desk! 2011 is shaping up well  :)

This from Classic Rock Presents Prog's Twitter:

ClassicRockProg Jerry Ewing
is proud to announce Progression 2.0 - The New Breed tour for 2011 featuring Touchstone, Jurojin and Enochian Theory.

Sounds good, I can't find any dates yet though!

This will be very interesting! Certainly an unexpected choice of actor, but the more I think about it, the better choice I think it is!  :)

Other Bands / Oceansize - Self Preserved While The Bodies Float Up

If anyone hasn't listened to this album yet, find a way to do so immediately!  :D  They promised us 'heavy' after the Home & Minor EP, and well, we got it! There's also plenty of mellower 'Frames'-ish material to be enjoyed too, making this one of their most balanced efforts yet, IMO. Highly recommended!

Other Bands / Frank Zappa

A few months ago, I bought myself a ticket to see Zappa Plays Zappa in Wolverhampton, telling myself that in between times I'd get myself some Zappa albums and get into them (I'd only heard good things about his music and liked the little I'd heard before). Then I forgot.

Today I realized that the gig is this Friday. So, what emergency Zappa albums shall I listen to in the next few days?

Gear Corner / Power supply help
« on: July 20, 2010, 07:13:27 PM »
Hello Frosties :) I've just received my Digitech Brian May Red Special guitar pedal which I ordered from Germany. (I'm in the UK). Because of this, my 9v power adapter on my pedal board does not fit the power adapter socket in the pedal, so I have to use the European plug provided through an adapter, which is a pain in the arse. Now, to remedy this I'm thinking about getting one of THESE so my power supply will fit. However, on the German plug provided, it says that there is an output of 1.3A, whereas my power supply has an output of 100mA.

If I plug my power supply into the pedal, will bad things happen?

Gigs / Glastonbury 2010

I've been loving the BBC's coverage of Glasto over the weekend, and now much of it's up on the website at http:// There's some absolute gems in the videos section, I heartily recommend watching Muse's set (which was glorious), as well as the Imogen Heap highlights and Orbital playing the Doctor Who theme with The Doctor himself! I think they all disappear in about a week, so be quick!

Other Bands / Relocator

I don't know if you've been made aware of this new instrumental prog metal project thats going on, but the first album is streaming in a few places now and it's excellent! Sounds a lot like Falling Into Infinity era Dream Theater, and so it should, because it features Derek Sherinian Playing keys! Check it out.

Other Bands / Thom Yorke gives the music industry months to live.

Burn your record deals, the oracle hath spoken.

I like Thom Yorke's music, and he may well be right, but in all fairness saying that the complete collapse of the very thing that made you filthy stinking rich would be 'no great loss to the world' does tend to make one come across as something of an arse.

Other Bands / Muse force Slayer off air with a UFO
« on: June 06, 2010, 11:06:10 PM »
I shit you not.

This is one of the many reasons why:
A. Muse is probably the best live act in the world
B. Anyone who says their not prog is quite simply wrong  :P

Other Bands / Rush - Caravan
« on: June 01, 2010, 09:40:56 AM »
Rush released their new single 'Caravan' with B-side 'BU2B' today (or at least in some parts if the world, I've had to listen on Youtube).

To get straight to the point - it's REALLY good!!  :) A fantastic return to a heavier sound while still retaining the atmospheric side that S&A did so well.

I'll definitely be picking up the album next year, if not the single itself when they eventually remember we exist over here and put it on our iTunes! Listenlistenlisten!!
