"Magenta release download single of the ELP Classic "Lucky Man"

Magenta is very excited to announce the release of their version of the wonderful Emerson, Lake and Palmer song "Lucky Man" as a download-only single. The song will be available exclusively from the band's Bandcamp site at http://magenta.bandcamp.com immediately.
The Magenta version will be available in 2 mixes - a full 7inch mix at £1.50 and an instrumental version at £1, or downloaded together for £2.50. It was originally slated to appear on the Classic Rock Presents Prog ELP tribute CD, compiled to tie in with ELPs triumphant appearance at the High Voltage Festival during the summer, but failed to appear following the unfortunate last minute cancellation of the project.

Magenta multi-instrumentalist Rob Reed takes up the story:
"We have given the song the full-on Magenta treatment, and we hope the fans – whether ours or ELPs – will enjoy what we have done with it. We all certainly felt it was too good to be left on the shelf. Our arrangement also has a Christmassy feel to it, so it seemed right to issue it in December."

The band has also shot a video to go with the track, which is now available on the Magenta website at www.magenta-web.com , on Youtube at www.youtube.com/watch?v=gnlVlxy5E0I or in a higher quality version on Vimeo at http://vimeo.com/17457468

The band will return in earnest in 2011 with new music and a return to playing live, so watch out for more exciting news in the New Year!"

Frost* / Robin 2 pre-gig refreshments
December 02, 2010, 09:39:17 AM
If anyone is around a few of the IB forum regulars will be meeting up on Sunday at the Olde White Rose in Bilston.  It's the top pub in this area.   Pedro's pic below. That's The Robin 2 circled.

[

The White Rose is just off the image.  Walk in the direction of the pink taxi/minibus and when you turn left at the t junction shown (Mount Pleasant into Litchfield Street) the pub can be seen at the end of the road on the right, next to the Army/Navy supllies store, and opposite the tatooist.  It's exactly 1 1/2 mins walk from the Robin.  Probably quicker by sledge.

Recent user review:

"The olde white rose is a permanent beer festival and they offer 10p a pint off for card carrying camra members. They always have 12 different beers on. Last night I chose Brewdog Paradox and I only had half as it was a 10%er - in superb condition too. I then went for Palmers Tally Ho - another dark beer and that too was in excellent condition. The missus had a half of Fullers Summer Ale was again in fine fettle. I love this pub and can't wait to go again."

So, which version is best?

For me, it's Jem's mix on the album, but only just.

News just in:

Magenta are thrilled to announce that they will be performing a special acoustic concert at Real World Studios in Box, Wiltshire, England on Saturday 21st November. Real World Studios, in association with Real World Records Ltd, was founded by Genesis legend Peter Gabriel in 1989.

The concert will be recorded for a future CD, and possible DVD, release.

Rob Reed says "After performing several acoustic concerts over the past few years, it seems that the logical progression would be to record an acoustic album, and where better than at Peter Gabriel's amazing studio complex."

After former Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett became a fan of the band earlier in the year, Peter Gabriel must surely be next!

"If Mr. Gabriel were to pop in to see what was going on we would welcome and encourage him to join us as I'm sure we could rustle up a Genesis track or two" quipped guitar maestro Chris Fry.

From 70s legends Deep Purple, Robert Plant and King Crimson to contemporary artists like Robbie Williams, Massive Attack and the Arctic Monkeys, clients of Real World Studios comprise a who's who of the music industry.

Rob continues "If we're going to record at such a prestigious venue we might as well pull out all the stops. Real World's 'Wooden Room' as well as having amazing acoustics, has a stunning grand piano which I can't wait to get to grips with. I will also be using a harpsichord and we will be joined by a string quartet which will compliment Magenta's music beautifully."

Magenta intend to play classic songs from all four of their studio albums as well as many of their shorter pieces, some seldom played songs and perhaps a few surprises.

"The prospect of performing at such a legendary studio is incredibly exciting and I can't wait for November 21st" says Magenta vocalist Christina Booth "and although there is only a limited amount of space in the Wooden Room for the audience, we're really looking forward to playing in front of many of our fans and friends".

As well as an audience of press and VIPs, we are offering 40 fans the opportunity to attend this unique event. To apply for tickets please email Magenta on mailto:music@magenta-web.fsnet.co.uk">music@magenta-web.fsnet.co.uk and we'll email back full details very soon.
